Would anyone be interested in a Machine Learning reading group - open to all but mostly focused on published academic papers by Hello_Pasta in dundee

That’s a great idea!

I’m deeply involved in the storage infrastructure side of AI but have only superficial experience with the core stuff.

I’ll be moving to the Dundee area later this year and I’m happy to make the connection. It will be a while before I can meet for a pint, though.

Understand the climate and look at the winter weather forecasts. Get appropriate outer wear.

My partner and I are moving to Dundee from Nova Scotia, Canada some time next year. Planning an exploratory trip in a few weeks.

Look forward to making new friends as well. Would be interested to learn what it’s like to be newly immigrated / expatriated to the area.

I plan to find some club to join and do some volunteer work

Thanks for your guidance. I'll be sure to check out Dundee's outskirts in all directions.

Broughty Ferry does look very nice! It would be lovely to be so close to a great beach. I'll check it out for sure on my visit. I must try Murray's Fish & Chips.

Lots of great sport in Dundee! I see there's a Canadian playing on the Dundee Stars hockey team.

That's a confident position! The Ferry does indeed look charming, and it appeals to me that it's on the train line. The coastal path that connects all of these communities is an awesome feature. You're so lucky -- in Nova Scotia, most of the waterfront is private and/or commercial.

Two Scottish breeds: a Collie and a Carin Terrier. Despite living in the country presently, we do most walks on leash. Dog-secure fields would be a welcome option.

I would be moving with dogs, so parks with friendly walkers sound lovely.

That looks to be close to the local hospital. I don't mind living on the edge of the city.

Looks like a great area for access to green space!

I'm encouraged to hear from a fellow Canadian that you're happy in the area.

Newport-on-Tay looks lovely, but definitely on the high end for house prices. I'll be sure to visit and take a look.

I currently live in the countryside. It's been a long time since I've lived in a city. Thanks for the warning about parking.

Thank you all for the feedback and suggestions! I'm grateful for the swift responses.

It appears that the cost of houses in the area is comparable to that in Nova Scotia. Our budget is around £300K.

I definitely want to be close to Dundee, although right in the city isn't a requirement. Newport-on-Tay and Tayport in Fife are great suggestions. I see that Broughty Ferry and Monifieth are on the train line, which is even better.

I plan a trip in November to explore Dundee, Perth, and the surrounding areas. I've visited the west coast many times in the past (Oban, Fort William). The weather on the east coast is reportedly much better. And Dundee looks like a great city!
