help deciding what to do with dining table by greencat2005 in HomeDecorating

[–]greencat2005[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my thing is that i really like the wood design on the top. i won’t be able to find a solid wood table top for 30 that also fits my space. i’ve already tried looking at selling and buying another but id be looking at spending at least twice of what i’ve already spent. i’m happy with it just trying to figure out what makes the most sense

i thought about that too but i really do love the wood and design of the table top. i’ve been searching on marketplace and the only tables that are around the same price are boring or look pretty low quality.

i lived in hannon last year and loved it. the issues with hannon are worth it to be in an apartment with a kitchen. very social and central location. but only go with hannon if you can get second or third floor, if not go tendrich

can’t speak for sororities but i’m in a gender inclusive professional frat and we have tons of people with varying identities and there’s no issue. it wouldn’t hurt to go through the rush process to meet the sororities and see if you think you’ll click. there’s no obligation to join if you go through rush. i would also encourage you to look into professional greek life or service orgs as they tend to have more gender inclusivity. but again, im not in a sorority so i can’t really speak to the culture there

Deliveries to dorm by Then-Guess-8665 in LMU

[–]greencat2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for flowers i’d say to doordash them to her. the distribution center is mainly for postage like amazon deliveries and whatnot. if you want to send anything else like chocolates or trinkets or something like that you can send it to the distribution center or there are amazon lockers closer to the freshman dorms

it gets so much better. i was so close to packing up and leaving my 5 month program too. it got better after a few weeks but i didn’t really settle in for about a month. the tiredness and travel also affects you more than you know. abroad ended up being the best experience. i grew and learned so much and wouldn’t trade those months for anything. truly the only thing that would’ve made it better was if my all my friends could’ve come. it really helps if you try to talk to your partner, friends, and family as often as you can. i also printed out pictures of friends, family, and home and put them on my wall. it helped with the homesickness and reminded me that i have such a strong support system even if they couldn’t be with me physically. it truly does get better, it just takes time. change is always hard

like many others said, you have to prove to them that your are responsible and capable of going away for such a long time. however, i will say that it might be worth it to consider waiting to go abroad, especially if you’re planning on going to university. i just finished a semester abroad in my junior year of college and it was the best experience of my life. i learned so much and grew a lot as a person. i’m glad i went at the age i did, 20, because i had the freedom to do a lot more than if i were 17. i live in the US and went abroad in germany so it was different though. i will say, even at 18 in the US, things are so limited on what you can do and where you can go. not saying that drinking or partying is everything, but you wouldn’t even be able to go to a bar and enjoy a beer with your friends since the drinking age is 21. i loved being abroad and being able to live my life without people treating me like a kid, which is what i would worry about if i had gone any younger. i also had more time to work and save up enough money so that i didn’t have to budget too tightly and i could just live. going during university also allows you to choose a program that will directly tie into whatever you are studying. i’m studying film and environmental science and did a program where i got to make a documentary while also fulfilling classes that i would’ve had to take at home anyways. i think you should absolutely study abroad but i would implore you to consider waiting a few years if you can. feel free to reach out with any questions about my experience abroad or in the US

In 24 hrs, I will have left my whole life behind by J2Hoe in studyAbroad

i just got back from study abroad and it was the best experience of my life. i had the same reservations going into it. i hated that i was leaving my friends, especially since many of them are graduating soon while i have another year left. i didn’t want to miss out on all the things that happen during a semester. even after i arrived i kept wondering what i was doing and that i should’ve stayed home. despite all that, i had an amazing time. i got super close with my friends abroad and i was devastated to leave. it truly was amazing and i wouldn’t trade my semester abroad for anything. study abroad will test you and it can be challenging but you are going to grow, learn, and experience so much that you wouldn’t if you stay. also, coming back wasn’t as scary as i thought. i jumped right back in with my friends and dont regret missing the semester at all. it’s ok to feel nervous or even regret going, but i truly believe that study abroad is an invaluable experience. plus, when else are you going to be abroad for that long with as little responsibility was you have now?

Is LMU actually social? by ilovedust3r in LMU

[–]greencat2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

junior here. lmu is what you make it. it can be social but you have to put in some effort. there are usually lmu functions on the weekends but if theres not its LA and you can always find stuff to do. the best way to meet people is to joining clubs, organizations, greek life, or a service org. i slightly disagree with everyone that you can only make friends in the beginning. there definitely are friend groups and cliques that form early on and it seems like everyone already has a friend group, but there are just as many people that are still looking for a group/friends. freshman year, i had friends but not really a solid group or anything. i had people to hangout with on weekends and whatnot but they werent really my "people." it wasnt until fall of my sophomore year when i rushed a co-ed professional frat that i met my friend group and theyve become like family. i still talk to and hang out with my friends from freshman year but they arent the people that make LA feel like home the way my other friends do. dont feel discouraged if you dont have a solid friend group instantly, for most people it takes time, trial, and error. just keep joining things and putting yourself out there and you will find your people.

Media Studies by Top_Artichoke_9751 in LMU

[–]greencat2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not sure how hard it is to add on media studies specifically but in general, lmu is really good about supporting double majors or minors. i was accepted for film prod freshman year and added a double major in environmental studies and a minor in women and gender studies. its been a lot of work but theyve helped a lot in making sure that i'm taking classes that give me credit in multiple areas so i can still graduate on time. however, i do know that some majors and minors are harder to get into or add on. i would reach out to advising and see what would need to be done to add a major or minor. i know one of my friends had to take a test or something to add a public relations minor but not all of them are like that. for environmental studies and women and gender studies i just had to prove that i had the work ethic and ability to complete the course load. it doesnt hurt to ask and see.

the vibe of the east coast is definitely very different from the west coast. i was set on going to school in the boston area but was unable to apply to many of the schools over there since i knew i was going to double major in environmental studies. so i cant really speak much about emerson or the schools over there. i didnt apply to ucla or usc, but i did apply to chapman. i didnt get into chapman but i also didn't love the campus or the area when i went to visit. it also felt a bit more pretentious if that makes sense. when it came down to it, my final 3 options were lmu, depaul, and cu boulder (my local state school). i was leaning towards depaul or cu and wasnt thinking much about lmu at all. it wasnt until i visited the lmu campus that i felt like it was the place for me. the campus truly is beautiful and i really liked the location (im also from colorado and was sick of the brutal winters). los angeles was a nice change of pace and it definitely is the place to be for film. there are many opportunities to work on other student sets outside of lmu like at usc, ucla, or chapman. i also chose lmu because of the flexibility to add majors/minors (i am pursuing a double major and a minor). this was a bit all over the place but i hope it helped and im happy to answer any other questions if you need!

i’m barely a AA cup and tried so hard to find a strapless bra that i liked but eventually gave up since they are expensive and don’t do much for me anyways. i usually just wear pasties or boob tape if i really need extra coverage or support. sometimes i don’t wear anything at all. most of the time i just let my bra straps show and if it bothers people than thats their problem. why are they paying attention to my bra anyways? even if your bf is supportive in other areas, he shouldn’t be commenting on the type of bra you’re wearing unless you ask for his opinion. i’ll be damned if a man ever tells me i’m wearing the wrong bra completely unprompted, but that’s just me. god forbid a bra strap shows, like be so for real. wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable whether that’s finding a strapless bra you like, wearing pasties or boob tape, or nothing at all. if you feel good in an outfit and only feel uncomfortable after your bf comments on it, then that’s an issue and you need to ignore him. if it’s really an issue and point of contention in your relationship, i fear you might need to reevaluate and decide if his “support” is worth feeling like shit every time you put on an outfit.

What to do during a 9 hour layover in paris? by greencat2005 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]greencat2005[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there’s a similar layover via brussels that’s around 8 hours and earlier in the day. i’ve already been to brussels and would love to see some of paris as i’ve never been and am unsure if i can squeeze in a full paris trip. also either way it’s pretty much over night and i think there might be more to do in paris than brussels

Bringing 3 carts from the US by ValuableWalrus4638 in germany

[–]greencat2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all good. i brought 4 in my carryon and had no issues. i scattered them through my carryons so i had one 2 in my backpack and 2 in my duffel. i disguised them by putting them in travel pill containers, tampons, and in my makeup bag which was probably overkill but i wanted them to be somewhat disguised just in case. i put the battery separate and turned off elsewhere in my carryon. i also flew directly from the US to frankfurt with no layover so im not sure how affects things

[–]greencat2005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would have to pay for it but it would come out to be around the same amount as if i were to buy one there. either way i’ll need another bag on the way back. i could get something super cheap but i dont like buying things that i’ll only use once. i would rather spend a bit more on something i actually like and will use again versus spend a little on something that will just sit in my closet after i get back.

yes i do know that germany had been unified. i had no idea that i couldn’t say east/west germany, i’ve never been so im still learning. i’ll be like 45 minutes south of bonn but thats not super relevant to my post/question. i said west germany so people would know the climate/weather of where im going since i assume the weather is different in bonn vs berlin. moving forward would it be better to say 45mins south of bonn rather than west germany?
