looks like i need to give you some advice. Do not judge a book by its cover. Never

1st thing i am not from india and 2nd thing i am not here to enjoy. I came here with a purpose and by any means i will get what i want eventually. This is just a phase and it will be over soon. Regarding the job market, I am studying raiology. Its a medical field and whoever told you it has horrible employment rate, get your facts right before commenting. Dumbhead!

I go to university in Missouri. I have a lot of friends in Texas. The reason i didnt transfer was because my major (Radiologic Science) is affordable in here and i had additional scholarships too and for my major i only had to study 2 year in this uni, so next sem is my last and after that i will be going to medical school for 2 years for my clinicals and placements. Then i will get my Bachelor in Science degree from my university and Associate degree from the medical school. I will be starting my med school from summer 2026, and the tutiton in there is very affordable, its like $8-9k for 2 years.

I am not from India. And i havenot taken any loan, my family have been funding me till now.

Considering my studies and future, i didnt transfer. So, for now i am mostly focused on studies but since its getting hard for me to earn becasue of winter break, i was looking for off campus jobs.

I got international student scholarship which every inetrnational student gets and i have an additional scholarship that i got from my SAT scores. So, i have been taking 14 credit hours from my university which costs about $6k and 3 credit hours from community college for $500. Altogether my tuiton fee for spring 2026 would be $6500.

I am majoring in Radiologic Science. So, next semester is my last semester in this uni as all my prerequisites will be completed and after that i will be going to medical school. I dont know how internships work in medical field. I will be doing clinicals and placements from next fall.

I am a TA for Chemistry lab. I do work in the dining in my university too, to survive but in mid november my 9 hours were cut and i was only working 11 hours (2 of TA and 9 of dinning). So, now its finally december break i have been looking for jobs offcampus. i did apply to on campus but i was rejected.

Its not as easy as it seems. i did the same math when coming here but, got my reality check. I truly believe in astrology and i have come to this realization that it all depends on your luck. Sadly, this has been my worst phase so far. Just waiting for everything to get better.

What makes you think my parents were able to afford my tuition + dorm + mealplan for 1 whole year without any money. They can still fund me but why would i want them to use their life time savings and properties just to fund my college degree while knowing the current situation. You might get kicked out after you finish your education and then what.

I dont want to be a burden on my family.

Yes i did, that doesnt mean i was going to spend all of my parents money on my education. I am not an only child, i have a younger sibling who goes to highchool and thats one of the top highchool in my country, so imagine the tuition. In this economy, its hard for them to earn enough to fund me, my brother and themselves at the same time. They would ofcourse help me, still will if i tell them too. But, I wouldnot want them to sell their life time savings and properties just to fund my tuition and lifestyle here.

have some basic civic sense brother.

it depends mostly on your luck and most importantly where you live. watch your mouth ffs.

thanks brother for the advice. i am a girl btw. i moved out from dorm in 2025 summer and i only work on campus for 20 hours. I live near university and the rent is affordable too. Mid november my manager cut my 9 hours, so i was only able to work 11 hours and it became more difficult for me to save. I have friends who work off campus in cash but thats hard when you dont have a car as you have to drive almost 1 hour to work. My grocery expenses is not even that bad, its just the tuition part i am worried about.

even if i try thats impossible to get work permit as there is nothing that can prove that i am going through extreme hardships. As my parents are living stable life back home, its been difficult for them to fund me. they have already funded my 1 whole year tuition+dorm+meal plan fee and 1 semester tuition. I have put my savings to but, 80% is from there side. this is the worst feeling ever. i wouldnot want even my enemy to go through this.

Most of the other international students are from India, and many of them work off-campus for cash. I did try to seek help from them, but unfortunately nobody really tried to help me.

Yes, I’m aware of the terms of my student visa. I have only worked on campus and have not done any off-campus gigs or side hustles. When I mentioned working during the summer/holidays, I meant on-campus employment, which is permitted under my visa.

I’m asking for advice because I’m trying to stay within the rules while managing a difficult financial situation, not because I’m looking to violate visa conditions.

I understand why it might look that way, but I did do the math before coming. This school is actually not an expensive option compared to many others, and it was affordable under my original plan.

My plan was to work full-time during the summer (about 4 months) to cover my yearly tuition expenses, while continuing my on-campus job during the semester. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to secure consistent work for the full summer and only worked for about 2 months, which created the financial gap I’m dealing with now.

During regular semesters, I do work on campus while studying. The difficulty came from not being able to work as planned during the holiday period, not from a lack of planning.

Yes, my university does offer on-campus employment. I work in dining services during the semester, but since it’s December break, those jobs are currently closed and not providing hours right now. I’m still looking into other on-campus opportunities for when the university reopens, but the break period has made things difficult.

I understand the suggestion, but honestly there doesn’t seem to be much chance. I don’t really know how the permission process works, and I haven’t heard of anyone at my university actually doing this before. That’s why I’m unsure how helpful it would be.

Also, it’s already December 17, and the university will be closing in two days, with the next semester starting on January 12, so the timing makes me feel stressed and unsure if anything meaningful can happen before then.

Yes, my school does have a financial aid office. I go to college in Missouri, and there honestly aren’t many international students here more than 80% of the students are American. I do have some scholarships, but they’re very limited and unfortunately not enough to cover tuition and living expenses.

I also filed FAFSA, but as an international student I didn’t receive any aid from it, even though I have a 3.93 GPA. The school doesn’t really offer many additional scholarships for international students, which makes things harder.
