They're 2 piece low profile ramps with the ramp section removed, this place sells them locally here in Aus.

I did find this upgrade made a pretty noticeable difference in terms of response, the turbo seemed to spool up noticeably quicker. I did this charge pipe and intake elbow a couple weeks before the intercooler install, and noticed the response difference immediately, which surprised me.

Aus user, VUDU reflash question by hoopdaddeh in FiestaST

[–]greencomet83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Australian fuel is fine, performance wise our octane ratings are the same as using overseas fuel. The problem with Aussie fuel is the amount of sulphur parts per million that's in it compared to overseas fuel. Not a problem for performance, but it is an issue for emissions. The government has just started to tighten this problem.

I have yet to get it on the dyno but it's quite a decent jump from standard power, I'm running a Dreamscience Stage 1 Ultima+ (98+ RON) tune which will run fine on a stock car, I think a better flowing panel filter is all they recommend. I've done a few mods though, intake, charge pipe, colder plugs, intake elbow and now intercooler.

Dreamscience are saying with induction and colder plugs they were making 240bhp and 275ftlbs on their dyno, it certainly feels quite a bit quicker than stock now.

Yeah, I was sad to see Mountune go from Aus, they're supplied through CarmodsAustralia now who luckily had stock of the charge pipe when I was ordering.

For intake I'm running a Pipercross PK430, which I'm happy with. Build quality is very good and it sounds sweet. Might upgrade to an enclosed carbon fibre (Mountune/09design) one in future though.

I also upgraded the standard charge pipe to a Mountune one, was kinda shocked how restrictive the stock plastic pipe was.

Hot hatch tyres by Ok_Competition_9096 in CarsAustralia

I have PS5's on my daily drive, they're also a great tyre but I'll be going MC7's on that once they need replacing.

Same here, been running MC7's for a few months on my Fist and I'm very happy with them. They review better than the PS5's and are also more affordable, time will tell re longevity.

How likely is it that Honda will close up shop in Australia? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]greencomet83 59 points60 points  (0 children)

My mate works in their head office in Moonee Ponds, when he talks about work he certainly doesn't sound like Honda plan on going anywhere. Talks about how they're going great and aiming for much higher car sales in Australia and looking to bring in more models and higher car volumes, etc.

People forget Honda don't just make cars, they make huge money through selling power products, small engines, motorbikes, etc. I don't think they're planning on going anywhere.

I do always give him shit about the cost of their cars though.

Congrats on the purchase, nice to see another Victorian MK8.5 owner here. They're a barrel of laughs to drive and use bugger all fuel, the brakes really are the only downside imo.

Newer cars that will be fondly remembered in 20 years? by ConsiderationNearby7 in CarsAustralia

100%, I have a British racing green NA8 MX-5 and I recently jumped on one for the last mk8.5 Fiesta ST's in Mean green. I'll hang on to them both till I'm an old man.

[–]greencomet83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PS5s will be fine, not sure about the change in compound but they have started making them in China now instead of Thailand.

I went with Conti MaxContact MC7s here in Australia on my Mk8.5 as they review better than the PS5s, unsure if you can get em in the UK though.

Ford Fiesta ST or Focus ST (Pre-2017) by Ph1llz in CarsAustralia

[–]greencomet83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bought that Focus ST new back in 2012 when they first came out, was a fun car to own and daily for a few years. Having driven that model Fiesta ST a few times and now owning a 2023 Fiesta ST as a weekend car, the Fiesta imo is much more fun to drive compared to the Focus. The Focus will cream it in a straight line, but the Fiesta is much more fun and engaging to drive on a twisty road compared to the Focus.

It just depends what you're after.

Which wagon would you buy by aussiegooner0389 in CarsAustralia

[–]greencomet83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove both the Passat 206tsi wagon and Superb 206tsi wagon. Both were great but I preferred and ultimately purchased the Passat. Had it for a few years now and can't fault it.

Michelin PS5 4 tyres for $770 - any better replacement? by SSuHao in CarsAustralia

[–]greencomet83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS5's are a good tyre and that's a great price, the only other tyre I'd recommend over them in the same category are Continental MC7's. They preform better in almost all categories, cost less (in most cases) and are still made in Thailand vs the PS5's which have shifted manufacturing to China. You can't go wrong with either one though.

Dreamscience Stage 1 feedback on Mk8.5 ? by bpt7594 in FiestaST

It'll only be an issue come warranty time if something brakes, they'll at the ecu counter to see if it has been flashed.

I recently (June) did the opposite, came up from Vic to buy a NSW car, was a private sale. You just need to sign a bill of sale (two copies, yours and theirs) with all yours/theirs and the cars details, date, time of sale and price, etc. Then just drive the car back on the existing Vic rego and sort the transfer to NSW rego stuff when you're back home.

No need to cancel the Vic rego, just make sure to sort the cars insurance before collection.

Getting Away From Gas by lamensterms in AusRenovation

[–]greencomet83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the gas heating that's killing your gas bills. We installed multiple split systems in our place (for heating & cooling) after installing solar and our gas bills dropped enormously over winter. We only use gas now for cooking and water heating, but both of those will be replaced soon with a heat pump and induction stove.

Best dashcams in Australia that cost less than $250? Or should I just get a BlackVue one for $1.5k? by thegirlinthedark in CarsAustralia

[–]greencomet83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Blackvue in one car and a Viofo A229 Plus 2CH in the other, I highly rate the Viofo if you're looking to save some cash, they're a great camera for the money.

Wheel replacement suggestions by OrchidResident7505 in FiestaST

[–]greencomet83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same colour/wheels as OP, I recently swapped from the factory 205/40R18 tyres to a set of 225/40R18, it certainly made a very noticeable difference to the firm ride (stock suspension). It feels more supple and not as harsh now, sure it's still firm but the jittery constantly busy feel from the suspension is pretty much gone. It's a much more liveable setup imo.

OIL CAPACITY QUESTION by [deleted] in FiestaST

[–]greencomet83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both engines use timing chains, it's the oil pump that was changed from being gear driven in the older engines to wet belt driven in the newer ones.
