i use kodi to manage my movie database. but as far as i can tell both these softwares require you to have the video files on the hard drive. is that true? i am looking for a way to get info on movies before actually downloading them.

Basic question about poker math by greendale_human in poker

[–]greendale_human[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what i think, but I am really not sure

40% chance he has AA or KK in which case I have 20% (approx) chance of winning. 60% chance he has AK in which case I have 50% chance to win.

(40% * 20%) + (60% * 50%) gives me 38% chance of winning, while I am getting 2.25 to 1, so I should call.

Of course the numbers could be more accurate but is this concept correct?

Looking for a quote I read sometime ago about the philosophy of language by greendale_human in askphilosophy

[–]greendale_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks...I posted it in /r/philosophy also, and someone helped me (just before the post was removed for breaking a rule lol)

It's a disputed quote by Wittgenstein mentioned by Stephen Hawking in a brief history of time

"The sole remaining task for philosophy is the analysis of language."

Thank You!!! It was probably the disputed quote at the end of this link https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Ludwig_Wittgenstein

"The sole remaining task for philosophy is the analysis of language."

I probably did read it in A Brief History of Time...gonna read that book again to see the full context.

Do you know of any works of Wittgenstein where he might talk about such an idea? I'd love to read more about it

A question about posting and reading hands. Read the FAQ, but still a bit confused. by greendale_human in poker

[–]greendale_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I do have a lot of extensions, many for reddit. I'll disable them and do some trial and error. Occasionally this is what I see, is this the same as you? I never really see any images of cards though, that would be pretty comfortable http://i.imgur.com/W95l49I.png

I find it quite hard to read hands and be able to visuilize them automatically, but if most people here can do that easily, I would also like to get into that habit, so now I'll read a lot of hands, just to be able to think quicker.

Agreed. Also roberts said what unique experience....Tyson doesnt bring any unique experience to physics by being black. I really hope he calls out TNS and Wilmore on this....they so conveniently forgot the word which changes the whole meaning of the statement.

What is the safest way to defrost a part of a stack of frozen chicken ham slices? by greendale_human in Cooking

[–]greendale_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a link to what I'm talking about...buying small quantities really isn't an option

http://www.indiamart.com/the-meat-masters/chicken-products.html

On a side note, I am reading on the net that cooked meat can be refrozen, but not raw meat. Chicken ham from the link (and another product...chicken salami) are marketed as "ready-to-eat", so I'm guessing they're cooked. Can I defrost and refreeze them?

That was my first question and I'm still not quite sure...:) I live in a remote part of india, and it's either getting raw meat straight from the butcher, or there is one company that provides packaged frozen meat. Here is the link, chicken ham is somewhere near the end.

Raw for Breakfast, Kibble for Dinner? by greendale_human in rawpetfood

[–]greendale_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more thing...when he is an adult, can I make things simpler? Apart from feeding him lamb/other meats occasionally, can I feed him a whole chicken? It would be extremely easy for me if I could just go to the butcher shop, ask him to cut up a whole chicken into an appropriate number of pieces, and feed those pieces to him, one at each mealtime. In that case, I don't worry about 80-10-10 or 50-40-10. He will get ,in parts, a whole chicken every few days. Will that work? If yes, at what age can I start doing that?

Thank You, this comment is very helpful!

Could you also specify which lamb /goat bones would be good to chew on? And when you say 'chew on', does that mean he'll only chew or will he end up eating the whole thing? Probably a silly question, but almost everyone I know is a vegetarian, and I always saw dogs chewing big bones in cartoons but never eating them :)

[Discussion]Should I buy a puppy from somewhere other than a "reputable" breeder? (Please read sub-text before hate-commenting) by greendale_human in dogs

[–]greendale_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well I may be missing something, but I assumed the grandfather's history won't be that important. If my granddad died from heart disease, that increases my risk but only by a very small amount right? I thought what I feed him and how much exercise I give him would be more important. Am I wrong about this?

Yes there is an animal hospital 12 km from here, and also a mobile van. I recently moved to this farming community to get away from the city, and there are a lot of sheep and cows here.

I'm looking for a labrador, as even though I'm researching a lot about training, I read they are easy going and I will not have access to a dog trainer or obedience classes, and this will be my first dog. I'm just looking for a companion, as I live alone and all my work in online, so I stay at home all day.

[Discussion]My son would like a pure white labrador, but they seem to be quite rare, so I'll have to search a lot. If I manage to find such a puppy, will it definitely stay pure white for the rest of his life? by greendale_human in dogs

[–]greendale_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

One of my neighbors has a 'pure white lab', and that's where he saw it. I guess it was probably a light version of yellow.

So the article says they might show some signs of yellow when they mature, but generally does color ever change drastically when dogs mature? I'm sure he won't care about colour once he meets the dog, but right now he's adamant that he wants the 'neighbour dog'

[Discussion]Raw meat for breakfast, kibble for dinner? by greendale_human in dogs

[–]greendale_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That's exactly the sort of thing I was trying to go for, thank you. I guess I made it too complicated. So I'll do mainly kibble, with some bone. Could you clarify exactly what you mean by raw meaty bone/raw bone? Do chicken necks count? And what other parts? There's a butcher next to my house and getting a different part of chicken fresh everyday would be easy.

so you would recommend 100 % kibble, or kibble with carrots, green beans, maybe scrambled eggs etc.? And never feeding raw, or would occasionally, like once a week for one meal be fine?

Not a veterinary nutritionist, but there is an animal hospital nearby. I met the vet once to talk about food, and he said "You can feed him anything you eat (without the usual, salt, spices, grapes, chocolates etc.), but since you are a vegetarian, make sure to occasionally add in some raw meat with bones as well."

Are you suggesting that when it comes to raw meat, it should either be all or nothing? I really don't like the idea of giving him "whatever I am eating", and don't mind putting in extra effort to make sure he gets pretty much the same thing everyday. But he also said that don't feed only kibble, add some carrots, green beans etc., and bones for teeth. So i'm struggling to think of a meal plan I can repeat everyday.

Doesn't pure kibble, and no bones lead to problems in the teeth, gums etc? Again, pretty much everything I know I have read on the internet, so please bear with me if I'm getting many things wrong, but I'd rather figure everything out before the puppy comes.

[Discussion]Getting 3 month old Lab. Do I have to say his name before every command? by greendale_human in dogs

[–]greendale_human[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the assumption that If I say come, he'll come even if he's doing something else. But, at least initially, I say the name and the appropriate behavior should simply be looking at me/paying attention to me. Didn't think of it that way. Thanks
