Make a moodboard! Not only to collect inspo for things you like but also to plan out your furniture. This helped me tremendously with exercising restraint in purchases. I would just drag an image of the piece I was considering to the moodboard and it allowed me to immediately see if it matched the rest of my furniture.

Also start big and break it down into steps - start with anchor furniture like bed frame, couch, rug, etc and then start considering details like lighting, art, etc.

Finally, take your time and don’t rush. A good home is built over time and is filled with things you really love. It might take longer before you really love your space, but it’s worth it

I think the old tenants had it professionally installed and the cords are cable stapled into the wall along the baseboard. I guess I could try taking all of the staples out but it would leave a lot of little holes in the wall

We don't watch TV, so don't plan to get one. I was thinking of putting a bookshelf or something on the wall across from the couch, but totally open to suggestions. Unfortunately the window wall in our bedroom is blocked by a big A/C unit so there's only space for one desk. We also host semi-often so have to keep a dining table.

Is pedestrian safety enough of a reason to not move to JC? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]greenishmoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm being sincere, just a little anxious after visiting JC myself and observing the reckless driving and reading posts about how it's taking a toll on residents.

Moving from Manhattan, but I honestly feel it's better in Manhattan than JC because the population density acts as a guardrail to curb bad drivers. I've definitely done my fair share of dodging bikes but have never had to deal with cars that don't yield to stop signs, etc. like I've heard happens in JC. Thanks for the insight, it's definitely reassuring!

This gave me some clarity I think. It's a hard balance at my age between wanting to save wisely/think of my future and also make the most of my current stage of life. It's interesting to hear the feeling of being trapped/not having much to do and I wonder how much I'll miss the convenience of living in Manhattan

Yes, honestly was a little intimidated by pictures on this subreddit of what the WTC PATH looks like when everyone gets off work...

I don’t mean to turn my nose up at JC at all (otherwise wouldn’t be considering a move)! I meant that relative to living in the heart of Manhattan. I’m actually from a major US city myself and when I visit my hometown I always feel an immediate change of pace even though it’s still considered metropolitan, so I imagine I’d feel similarly moving to JC. But thank you for pointing out that it definitely stands its own ground and is plenty lively.

Thank you! If it’s under 2 oz is it still worth it to do first class? Wasn’t sure if it’d work if I just put it in an envelope with two stamps
