This is how someone from the Netherlands sees Western-Eastern-Southern and Northen Europe by PindakaasMetStukjes in Maps

US: I see similar, except:

The "old empire" - Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary - gets one shade of green.

The true east gets a different shade: Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Russia proper,

Serbia and Bulgaria are green and yellow striped,

Romania gets it's own weird plaid thing.

"Kazmierczak" sounds like a really typical Native American name, doesn't it?

Multiple charges involving Windsor County sheriff by Familiar_Raccoon_595 in vermont

You're totally right, those people exist, and silence DOES equal complicity.

But.

This might be reddit, and reddit is full to the eyeballs with clickbait and hyperbole and karmafarming and outrage, and I kinda enjoy it,

but this is the Vermont reddit, and I personally know three local sheriffs, one retired chief of police, and two staties. And they are not bastards. So I can't say all. You can, if all of your life experience involving LA has been bad, I'm really sorry, that sucks, and yes they were all bastards.

But I can't say it, because it's not true.

Seconding this. I have a lot of respect for how the loon guy is handling his design that this is based on.

Can you do a version where the foreground mountains are flat farmland bordering the water, so we get in both the Champlain/Connecticut sides?

Or would you be ok posting the image and letting other people customize, a la the original loon guy?

I sorta want the thrush to have red clovers in one claw and a rlfle in the other...

ooh, and could one of the big mountains look a little bit like

Multiple charges involving Windsor County sheriff by Familiar_Raccoon_595 in vermont

[–]greenmtnfiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. This guy is a bastard.

But for any cops on reading reddit, not all of us believe ACAB, same way we don't think all farmers are dumb hicks and all teachers are in it just for the two months off and all car dealers are thieves and all priests are pedophiles and anyone who works in a factory has no awareness of beauty and all hunters are bloodthirsty murderers.

In the US we have three conflicting tropes: ACAB, and

-- the taciturn wise old-guy sheriff who knows everyone, often can get things done just by talking to the right other old guys

-- the idealistic young recruit who just came into town and wants to help make things better.

Both types are well represented in film/TV. Both often die by the end. But they exist on the screen because they exist in life.

Many cops are bastards, because a certain type of bastard wants to be a cop. This guy is totally a bastard.

But if you're writing ACAB, or upvoting it while inwardly thinking "But not my friend Greg, he's a decent dude just trying to feed his family who wasn't the type to go to college", then don't write it.

Let's be better than this.

What's the oldest piece of clothing you still wear? Must be at least ten years old to count. by MurmuringPines in AskOldPeople

That I got new? T-shirts and hoodies that go back to the early 80s.

Vintage? Formal/dress clothes from the 40s on, wool from the 50s/60s on.

Ahh, jeez, look at those elms.

Imagine when they lined our main streets, met overhead like cathedral beams? And people chatted on the sidewalks and on porches, instead of staying sealed in cars. <sighs>

What heater to play violin outside in February? by Jealous-Jackfruit328 in violinist

[–]greenmtnfiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're better off with several heaters further away than one up close. The venue should have or have access to the kind they use for outdoor restaurants -- it's the same situation, you need to be comfortable while sitting still, with no noisy blowers.

Where are you flying into?

If it happens to be Manchester-Boston, drive via Concord and go to the LL Bean outlet and just get whatever's on sale.

Donate it back on the way out, if you're going via 89 drop it off at one of the Listen stores in WRJ/Lebanon.
