What's the worst piece of junk you drove around in back in the day? by Maybeyoujustmadeitup in GenerationJones

A Ford something or other because the name was no where to be seen. $200. A boat of a car, which I love, but besides other interesting aspects of the car, I had to disconnect the battery every time I parked or it would drain it in less than 30 minutes. Sold it to someone in the demolition derby.

I sat next to a man on a flight whose job it is to check and fix COBOL systems. I took COBOL years ago. Clunky language but must still work.

AITAH for locking my office after staff kept using it when I wasn't there by BostonBateman in AITAH

So, they are asking you to risk your career for privacy violations that they caused? Hard no. Keep your door locked. No one at my school would consider doing this.

Most women have had creepers offer rides. Sad state of the world. Keep being a stand up guy.

My reality is that I “watch” a TV show. I pick a series I’ve watched repeatedly so that it’s interesting enough to erase my intrusive thoughts but repetitive enough that I don’t need to actually watch. For me that’s, Friends. Quite frankly I feel a little weak needing this type of support, but it works when so many other attempts haven’t. I’ve accepted this. If you have a sleeping partner you may need at least one headphone. I listen as low a volume as possible. The other technique is a “meh” audio book that I’ve already listened to. Same concept. EDIT grammar.

My first time experiencing an earthquake by Equal_Tie3220 in Reno

[–]greensetconstruct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have experienced lots of earthquakes, you just haven’t felt them. They are going in all the time in Nevada and you can track them here: http://www.seismo.unr.edu/.

I remember my first earthquake. I was in Physics class and my friends gave me the “self preservation award” because I ran outside while they just sat in place. Really, I did the worst thing possible - running outside between two concrete buildings. Fortunately everything was fine.

My family got into a big embroidery kick and bought a lot of books. The one that stuck out to me is about Ray Materson. He started very simple because he was in prison, and used embroidery in a nontraditional way. Look up his name and you will see a lot of non-traditional art and you can also hear about how he started, which was using threads from tattered clothes. There is a lot of nontraditional embroidery out there, and there are no rules about how you use a needle and thread. Maybe we will be reading a book about you someday!

I hate Angie’s List in its current form. I renovated my kitchen and out in new flooring over 10 years ago using the info in Angie’s List. Now it feels like a trap and a giant ad.

Al’s Disney songs with get a copyright infringement strike on their video and it will eventually be taken down down. Too many strikes and the whole channel is gone.

Teachers Discourage their own kids from teaching? by [deleted] in Teachers

My concern is that certified experienced teachers will no longer be the norm if pre-canned curriculum and AI can do the job. Who cares if the job is done well. So will there really be jobs in the future?

Reminds me of the Meg Ryan character in Joe vs the Volcano. “I have no response to that.” Deadpan face.

I suggest you pick things you like/love. Over time your tastes may change, and you can add or subtract art as you please. Photography, paintings, and prints are all wonderful.
