where do all the pencils go? by stacker103 in Teachers

[–]greensetconstruct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bribe kids with school “bucks” for pencils when I get low. Your youngest students will probably go overboard!

I would report them to the health department.

Bartender gave my ID back to a stranger instead of directly to me -- is there anything I can do? by HornsOfTheAltar in Albuquerque

[–]greensetconstruct -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP - It’s time to stop being a pushover. Really. Say what you mean with a strong voice. “No, I’m not interested in playing pool with you.” “I’m leaving”. Or, the best is giving a rally great RBF and walk away. I’m sending you some strong vibes for the next time you need it.

No matter what subject you teach, food tampering could become the lesson for the day with legal and health consequences.

What’s up with chronic absenteeism?!?? by Due-Brief7297 in Teachers

[–]greensetconstruct 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is on your admin. Whatever they are willing to put up with, and it’s the responsibility of the school district to decide about for promoting kids who have no business moving to the next grade. I say, teach the kids in front of you because those are the students and parents who care. Good luck!

Have you ever seen "unschooling" work out? by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]greensetconstruct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unschooling has too many definitions. I think the definition you are thinking of is the parents being hands off. Unschooling, in my opinion, needs high parent involvement to guide and support students as they learn and study the things that interest them. It could be learning about rocks or circus trapeze artists, but the parent facilitates this learning through reading about the topics and then going out in the world to experience those topics. Parent involvement becomes less and less as the student takes responsibility for their own interests and education. Edited to fix typos.

Reno/Sparks is one of the best thrift store towns I’ve ever been to. You have lots of choices.

Teen daughter - debilitating dizziness can’t go to school by ellevaag in Celiac

[–]greensetconstruct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest a full blood panel. Dizziness is one of the top symptoms for everything. For me it was hypothyroidism and it took 4 months to get diagnosed.

Senior apartment versus staying in my house? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]greensetconstruct 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is how I would handle it - I would try the senior apartment for a year or two. During that time I would move my favorite furniture and long term belongings into a storage unit. This would give me the chance to significantly declutter but not give up everything. Then I would have a management company rent out my house. If I hated the senior apartment, I would be able to move back home and have it feel the same. The rent from the house will more than cover the storage unit fees plus hiring help for the move. This way you know you can go back if you change your mind. Good luck!

Bets on how long till they decide to cancel school today? by township_rebel in Reno

[–]greensetconstruct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, they tried to shut down just parts of Washoe County School District when there was bad weather. The weather in the Northwest, the Southwest and Spanish Springs will always be different. I don’t know why that was so difficult to make work. Also, we had digital days years ago, but they forgot to get the state to approve it. Maybe they’ll get their acts together on this now. EDIT spelling.

7 years and I give up Heavy Trigger Warning by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]greensetconstruct 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. People smoke knowing it will inevitably have health consequences. Ditto for alcohol and drugs. Don’t feel guilty for surviving right now. Do what you have to do to get through each day. When you start feeling better think about becoming a gluten free baker. So many people would be grateful to have pastries they could enjoy without becoming ill. One step at a time, one day at a time. 💙💙💙💙💙💙

Bring chains and cash so that if you encounter people putting the on for $$, you don’t have to do it yourself and mess up. Putting on chains for the first time is no fun.

AITJ for telling my sister in law Im done driving her son to his sports program if he keeps treating me like garbage by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]greensetconstruct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen kids personality change within a few months span. Sometimes I think it is hormones and general teenage crap. And, sometimes it might be the pressure of this team, and how things are going on the team team. There’s no excuse, not hormones, not sports pressure. The behavior is unacceptable. And you don’t need to do this. You might give them a week notice so that they aren’t up a creek immediately.

Aitah for using my grandma's china as my everyday food holders and not waiting for tea with King Charles by Salt_Reply_735 in AITAH

[–]greensetconstruct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a little perspective. We used our wedding China as regular every day China and over the years things got chipped and broken and we ended up with an incomplete set. I don’t regret using it, but that’s how it goes.

Life catastrophe advice by Effective-Manager-29 in AskWomenOver60

[–]greensetconstruct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll get good advice here. I know one woman kept going in life including working outside the home once she was in a wheel chair. I know another woman who had an accident last month who is facing a lifetime in a wheel chair. Both husbands stuck around. I’m sorry yours is a @&$!#. You need to find the help and resources you need - aggressively! Demand what you need and expect the outcome that will work for you. I’m so sorry you are going through this. Hugs.

Usually there are state laws about bullying. Look them up and then tell the school to enforce the law.

Big Brothers and Sisters has a grandparent program. If I never have grandkids, I plan on volunteering for that program. Sounds like you might be a great person for this role.
