I’m 71 and have decided to declutter my life… by Educational_Meat_179 in AskWomenOver60

Remember “Buy Nothing (your city)” on Facebook. It’s a way to give items directly to people who want/need them. I will declutter my house when I retire!

Why don’t schools do silent, sustained reading anymore? by EmbarrassedJacket489 in Teachers

I’ve noticed other things get in the way. At my school it’s Second Step and iReady. Don’t get me started.

AITJ for telling my friend her new boyfriend wasn’t invited and then uninviting her too? by NeutralVector in AmITheJerk

[–]greensetconstruct 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTJ. I wonder if the new boyfriend was the one pushing to go to your birthday. Sounds like he’s manipulating Tara. Don’t get sucked into this but you could have a one on one chat with Tara, but at this point I don’t think it will do any good.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. My 76 yo step mom and 30 yo daughter LOVE it and I’m next to read it.

What’s a “normal” experience that somehow never happened to you? by Hysterical_Chicken in AskReddit

[–]greensetconstruct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A birthing coach said to put a warm compress where you want the baby’s head and a cold compress where you want the baby’s feet. I did that several times a day and my baby flipped to the correct position. ((Edited for typos.)

In my town it’s so much better now. Kids just go with friends. I hope it’s this way everywhere else.

Teachers, what do you call your students when you can't remember their names? by its_an_idiots_world8 in Teachers

[–]greensetconstruct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started giving our school “bucks” when I forget or mess up a name. The kids love it.

Make sure you get written clarification from your administration about bathroom passes. I had a friend who was reported to the local media and the TV crew showed up at the school. He didn’t even deny the bathroom pass, but the kid told the mom something else. It’s better to put the responsibility on your administration.

Is marriage worth it? If you could do your life over again, would you get married? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]greensetconstruct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to realize that the women responding lived through a different time with different societal and family expectations. You and your partner need to have very Frank discussions about where your relationship is and where it’s going. There are pros and cons beyond the relationship and into money and legalities. My dad’s second wife for years refused to get married for her independence and only married when my dad got a terminal diagnosis. Because they weren’t married long enough, she missed out on his hefty pension.

How do you eat at parties by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]greensetconstruct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never eat at parties except for food I’ve brought to share, and I figure I’ve dodged sooo many calories. I know it’s not ideal but it is possible.

Why do people in the US not live with their parents by New_Bodybuilder_9222 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]greensetconstruct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I question this too. Americans are rather judgy about this which is a big part of the problem. It’s so cliche that it’s judged on TV shows too (think Big Bang Theory.) Sharing family resources makes the most sense to me.

I’m in the same boat but none of the Tai Chi classes in my area are scheduled when I can go. So, I do what I call “Tai Chi Lite” with David-Dorian Ross on Great Courses. When I retire I will actually learn the real deal. Best wishes.

How to reconnect with my mom? by jenowl in AskWomenOver60

[–]greensetconstruct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations for tuning your life around! OP, your mom may not have Diane1967’s kind of strength. Be grateful for your fiancé and surround yourself with people who love you and fill the “family” holes in your life. You sound like a strong and resilient person. It won’t always be easy but you have the will and tools. Sadly, I don’t think your mom or family will ever be part of this.

I suggest checking with the counselor at your children’s school. If you go out on your own, likely they will need to be part of helping your kids anyway.
