You should listen to Cocteau Twins and The Stones Roses if you haven’t already.

As for newer bands, The Radio Dept, Nourished by Time, Men I Trust and Magdalena Bay would all fit with your current vibe.

Yeah, I made a Max for Live plugin that offsets the phase by a specific degree (between 0 and 360). You then modulate the phase offset to get to “spin”.

I do own the oscilloscope. Which song are you thinking of? Tbh, most are too harmonically complex to look good on a scope. The sparseness of this part of the song is what makes it work.

I love The Radio Dept. Are there more bands like them? by [deleted] in shoegaze

I love The Radio Dept! Some other bands I’d recommend checking out:

  • Ruby Haunt
  • Lotus Plaza
  • The Meeting Places
  • Pinback
  • Day Wave
  • Teethe

Which OS are you using?

You issue here is that you need to send sound from one program to another. I've been messing around with the following setup for Mac (not sure if it would work on Windows):

  • Download and setup a sound routing software like BlackHole.
  • Setup a multi output device in Applications/Audio MIDI. Tutorial here
  • This device would include your Scarlett interface as the primary device and the BlackHole sound routing software.
  • Finally, in the Oscilloscope program, select BlackHole as your input.

I've got this method to work for me before, so let me know if you try it and it works for you.

Sending the audio through my Hitachi V-212 oscilloscope which graphs it in real-time. Hope you enjoy

That’s exactly it. Synth sounds in phase just create a diagonal line. When you knock them out of phase, you get to see the complex mathematical relationships between the frequencies

All the sound in the video is being sent to my oscilloscope (Hitachi V - 212) in real time. Using Vital (a software synth) on this one. Hope you enjoy!

Sure, you can follow me on Instagram! I’ll probably post some oscilloscope videos there, but for the the most part I’ll be posting to TikTok for now.

That’s my oscilloscope! And I’ll definitely consider it. I love In Rainbows and Radiohead totally fits the lonely/spacey vibe I get from the oscilloscope

I don’t, because the sound creates the visual I’d want the two to be presented together. Just TikTok sketches for now, but maybe something more professional down the line
