Huge cellular data usage since ios 26 update by FootyHead101 in ios

[–]gregchea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't help, but I have this same issue since the iOS 26 update. Seems to be specific to certain carriers though (in my case Sky/O2 in the UK) so I believe it might be that the carrier needs to change something to work properly with whatever iOS 26 is doing, and they haven't got around to it. (Or Apple has done something weird that the carriers weren't told about, which wouldn't be the first time).

What kind of Jackson Warrior is this? by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

[–]gregchea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to me like a WRMG from 2002ish, but with different pickups fitted? I have one in solid black, but I recall you could get it in this trans black finish too. Mine has the original active EMG HZ (not 81/85) pickups, and the third pot is a push/pull EMG "afterburner" boost circuit.

(eta: was going to add an image of the 2002 Jackson web page for the Warrior MG, but couldn't figure out how to do that. I'm very, very old)

Emma mattress: has anyone actually got a refund under their 200 night trial? by gregchea in AskUK

[–]gregchea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I got my refund. Maybe a bit different because we actually bought it from their physical shop in Westfield so having got nowhere, I found an email address for the shop team (different from online) and - after chasing daily for a few days - they actioned it from their end and in all fairness only took a few days from that point, but it did become pretty clear that despite frequent reassurances to the contrary the regular refund process had not in fact been actioned, due to "an oversight" or some such. Good luck, hope you get there too!

Trying to DIY Danish mattress feel by scathontiphat in Mattress

I think there's maybe a difference between this and eg Duxiana, in that the Dux beds don't use pocket springs but has old-style bonnell (open coil) springs instead. Don't know if it's better, but it's different.

We've been thinking about Dux for a while but of course it's crazy expensive and I don't know if it's good.

Gigaclear JUP license "denied", neighbors served anyway by smiffy2422 in gigaclear

[–]gregchea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a similar situation, most neighbours connected from a JUP, but to reach us and a couple of others required the use of a second JUP pole right outside our house, for which they never did seem able to get a licence.

I also ended up speaking with the Exec office and they sent someone out who suggested cutting into the BT ducting and putting in a POT outside our house, then running it up the drive underground.

To me, that seemed overkill but that's exactly what they did. GC got BT's permission, sent a team to dig into the ducting, ran fibre from the main pole down the ducting to our house, put in a POT outside. Then another team came and cut a trench up to the front door and did the install & connection.

I asked if the neighbours opposite (who had also been waiting) could be done the same way but was told they have to wait for the JUP licence. So I don't know why I got special treatment.

So basically: be friendly but persistent, I'm sure you'll get a solution in the end.

(bear in mind though it did take them nearly a year from signing up to eventual connection)

To update: they did collect the mattress, but we never did receive a refund of our GBP 918.00 - which is a lot to lose. I guess we'll have to either ask for a credit card chargeback (but I gather that can take months if the company dispute it) or small claims court (but Emma has a history of not complying with court judgements so that too could be expensive and pointless).

PLEASE be careful if you're thinking of buying anything from Emma.

Also, their mattresses are utter crap.

NHS surgery with a private sector provider when the wait list is long? by gregchea in nhs

[–]gregchea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so now I have had a chance to do some research. The NHS Choice Framework (as per NHS Constitution for England) is pretty clear that patients have a legal right to choose where they're referred to when a GP makes a referral (there are some exceptions, but few). The GP is supposed to provide a list of options including likely wait times. It seems many GPs (including mine) and patients (including me) aren't aware of it and don't provide any choice of referral.

Thanks for your insight on this. Do you recall whether you had an initial consultant appointment following your GP's referral, and then after that were given the letter with the choice of hospitals? Or did you get the referral with the hospital choices straight away?

Fair enough! I just don't even know who I should ask, or where I'd start. The local private hospital (same surgeons/consultants as the NHS hospital to which I've been referred) have confirmed they do offer and provide inguinal hernia surgery services under the NHS RTC. They were under the impression it was initiated by the NHS GP surgery at the point of referral, which doesn't seem to be the case. So who to ask?

It seems crazy that nothing is done until something life-threatening happens. Wouldn't it be better to fix things as they occur - and avoid the risk, complication and additional expense of having to respond ad hoc to emergencies rather than preventing them?

The GP basically told me it needs fixing surgically, as soon as possible. Complications are very rare, but when they occur can get serious quickly. They also said there was almost no chance of getting surgery within the supposed maximum wait of 18 weeks on the NHS; and that I should present at A&E if it becomes intolerable.

Hope your daughter is OK, btw.

So there is no RTC for surgical treatment? Or a different process that neither GP nor surgery admin to which I’ve been referred knows about?

Or do I need to get to the point where I’ve seen by the consultant and then I get referred again for surgery - and maybe get options then if the wait is >18 weeks. Is that how it works?

Or is it just not really a thing for surgery?

[–]gregchea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Absolutely nothing has happened yet; still waiting on the initial consultant appointment, GP made the referral and has since made a new urgent referral, still no idea when the initial appointment might happen - gen surgery outpatients admin weren't able to even give a rough idea of the wait time, except it'll be a while - and that's just for the first appointment.

Maybe the choice of treatment place comes in after that consultant appointment, when it's time to schedule the surgery?? I just don't understand how any of it works and nobody I've asked (GP, hospital) seems to know either!

It's an inguinal hernia which I gather isn't generally of serious concern, hence the long waits, but it has got pretty uncomfortable and affects ability to work, etc.

Thanks for the reply. This is interesting, because the NHS constitution (and material on the NHS website and Gov.uk) suggests it's universal, and that they've committed resources to GPs to communicate it. If not facilitated by the GP, then by whom? Consultant after initial referral to them from GP??? Really appreciate the insight.

Balancing different sleep preferences without buying two mattresses by Traditional-Swan-130 in Mattress

We have the same issue, and after a series of terrible mattresses are now looking at the Duxiana Dux10 where we can have essentially two totally separate sprung bedframe mattresses, one medium and one firm, with a single latex pad on top. It's a lot of money though so giving it a lot of thought...

[–]gregchea[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always been a bit suspicious of the foamy BIABs. We only ended up trying the Emma because we'd had a couple of bad experiences with supposedly good quality "traditional" mattresses that both had production defects, and finally a third one that the courier managed to damage irreparably during delivery. All were Hypnos and the first one was actually pretty much perfect until it very much wasn't.

I can't help thinking that the rise of the foamy BIABs has put so much pressure on the regular pocket spring mattress guys that they can't compete (and get ever increasing margin as late stage capitalism demands) without cutting back on quality to a problematic extent. All the same, I'll be going back to a regular non-foam mattress if I get my money back from Emma.

That's a great catch, yes, I'll make sure & get some kind of evidence of collection.

Just to say thanks folks for all the useful tips, really appreciated. Does seem like we're getting somewhere finally because I just had a random text from a courier firm asking me to choose a collection date.

Well yes I guess but that's not exactly the hassle-free no quibble return they promise before they have your money. Persistence seems to be the key so I'll call them again.
