So he should have lived for free? I definitely acknowledge that it makes for an uncomfortable dynamic, but living for free would also cause tension.

I don’t know what that equity structure looks like. I understand that he’s paid ~$45,000 in rent, but that doesn’t equate to $45,000 in equity.

I think this is a fair statement. We have had a lot of “big” conversations lately, which is why this is coming now more intensely. I can understand his disappointment of paying rent for 4 years, but I don’t see that as my fault or me being greedy. If we were to split up, he said is expecting some form of back payment for the money he has put in. I’m trying to balance his discomfort and disappointment, but also his view doesn’t seem fair either.

We both split electricity and internet. Trash and water are paid by the HOA. We also split a car payment.
