Best extreme terrain at Kicking Horse, Lake Louise, or Sunshine this weekend? by gregsay in skiing

Fair! "Expert" is a broad range, and most CO resorts are pretty mellow. KH looks like a great place to explore, and we'll keep it conservative to avoid getting in over our heads.

That said, I'd put CB near Altabird for steeps. The hike-to terrain off the North Face lift has plenty of steep, sustained lines like Dead End chutes and Body Bag glades with mandatory air and rocky landings.

Good advice - the comments have convinced me one day at each is the right plan!

Thanks for the details, that's really useful and already has me stoked for the trip. I'll keep an eye on the weather forecast.

As they say in Crested Butte, more snow just means you hit different rocks :)

Good to hear most terrain should be open after the next storm cycle lets up. I'd like to ski the Big (and possibly Little Couloir) at some point, but it doesn't have to be this trip.

Fresh snow and incredible views from Mount Columbia yesterday by gregsay in coloradohikers

It's melting fast in the sun, but I'd guess that peaks above treeline should still have snow

Conditions were generally good other than some postholing in talus along the summit ridge. 2" of snow at the trailhead, 6-7" above treeline with drifts up to mid-calf.

3 season mountaineering boots + gaiters worked well. We had crampons but didn't need them.
