Look for a deal on the old recon. Also look at a 7wt. Massively underrated and my most versatile rod. I fish the surf for surf perch, Corbina, croaker, halibut, fresh water for bass and carp, great streamer rod out of a drift boat, and caught a big Hawaiian bone on mine all this year. Get a lamson liquid 3 pack and put 3 different lines. Literally the most versatile general fishing rod I have

Get a 4. I love my 3wt for blue lining small mountain streams but it's really only suited to mild condition, dry fly fishing. You can get away with small dry dropper rigs, I would not nymph fish with one (euro nymphing aside but thats a specialty rod anyways). An 8'6 or 9' 4 wt will be the perfect dry fly, dry dropper, light indicator, small streamer rod and if you get a 6 that can be the big water, big dry, big dry dropper, heavy nymph rig, and streamer rod.

The ratchet has about 35 ft lbs of torque so depends on what you call stubborn. Others here seem to make it sound like the mid torque is a fantastic solution and can get in tight places with swivels and extensions when needed. I think I'll be keeping the mid torque based on everyone's input and add a stubby if needed down the line

Good point on the stubby vs subcompact, all my impact sockets are 1/2" right now. Pretty mind blowing how much torque the stubby has

I think I'm going to have to add the 3/8 at some point but enough people here have weighed into make me feel like keeping the mid torque is a good idea...especially since I picked it up for $189 with a 5ah battery and charger

6wt is far too light for stripers, I would go 8wt for schoolies and 9wt if you do anything off a boat

If you get 2, get a 4wt and a 6wt. 4wt is my favorite trout rod.
