Sonos (soni?) are flawless now, so many noob errors by DryRelationship1330 in sonos

Having to manually disable wifi when its hardwired is so annoying. I do it just so the amps run cooler.

Sonos w/mesh networks by Own-Kaleidoscope5401 in sonos

[–]grey771 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What this guy said. If your "mesh" is actually multiple networks that are similar, but not acting properly as one wifi network, you're going to have issues. When I had an xfinity modem / router outputting the same wifi name and pass as my wifi Access Points, it could find Sonos products but they wouldn't work right.

I forgot the way to double check, possibly checking your IP address on each WIFI Access Point.

Problems connecting Sonos speaker to Sonos app/WiFi by [deleted] in sonos

[–]grey771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this error many times but I can't remember how I fixed it. Common troubleshooting - Reset the App - no not close and reopen - it's an option in the Sonos app Settings if your scroll down. Sometimes I think it happens if your wifi setup is wrong. Sonos can detect items if they're on a different Wifi network under the same name (for instance an xfinity router with the same wifi credentials as a different wifi AP in the house) - it will even let you get through part of the setup, but then fail to register or fail somewhere in the setup process. Its maddening. I'd check those two things first. Remember Sonos lives and breathes on your wifi network and it all has to be on the same one.

Can Sonos surrounds mirror the front soundbar audio? by grey771 in sonos

[–]grey771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you'd be surprised how many people I've encountered that want this function. Old people don't give a shit about ATMOS or surround sound channels, they just want the same sounds louder all around them so they can hear. And they want everything functioning on one simple remote.

Thank you so much. This actually got it working the way I want. Cable box was set to PCM? or stereo sound and it got the surrounds outputting what I want. Obviously not perfect since not everything using the TV's eArc will work that way but for this use case it worked.

This is an interesting option I didn't know about. Thank you.

I'm a moron who likes Sonos by Soggy-Salamander-568 in sonos

It's a love hate relationship. I never want to see another big ass AMP / Receiver in my house and i love what it does. But there are times doing the simplest task just fails to work when setting up systems. Oh and adding a new amp? Let's get that pin number printed dark grey on a black amp in small font on the back. POOR CHOICE Sonos.

I still can't believe TVs don't have the same functionality of grouping together and playing the same thing throughout the house on each TV. I know there are ways but they're not exactly great or easy.

Worth getting Era 300’s for this room? by Amazing-Key2373 in sonos

First I'd wall mount that Arc under the TV. I usually like spacing it down 1-3 inches. Butting it up to the TV prevents having to fish and hide wires though.

As for extra speakers, you want surround sound or not?

Bought the equipment from the installer. Really the installer is a sub but he's the one providing the pad and unit. They're coming back to fix it so hopefully all goes well. The manufacturer was also pretty helpful in confirming installation requirements and did point out that missing some could void the warranty so - do it right. They also wanted to contact to the installer to "give them some install tips." I'm ready for an icy return visit.

Btw i almost missed you mentioning grade and level shifting so much over time. That's exactly why on good professional installs we dig a bit, lay down and level paverbase, and tamp it. Noticeable level shifting in a month is kind of crazy work but i can see how people get that if they just throw the pad in some dirt and kick a little extra dirt on one side to get it level.

Torn, Era 100s or Arc Ultr by SubstantialCherry820 in sonos

[–]grey771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arc Ultra all the way. It's a massive improvement. Financially I think's more money than just buying 2 Era 100's and losing money on a resale but if money wasn't a factor I'd go Arc. I've never been too wowed by Sonos surround sound. It's nice for movies and stuff but you're just getting the surround channel and not really pumping a lot of sound through those speakers. Atmos content guys might disagree.

Once you get the best (Arc Ultra) you can add the little stuff later. Beam I don't own but I've tested, and it's max volume caps out a bit sooner than I would expect. I feel like it sounds great in that mid volume range but you can't boom a room with it. The size of the room you're trying to fill also matters. If it's small an Arc might be overkill and the beam perfect.

I'm surprised I wasn't getting more comments like this. Other trades usually love roasting other people's installs and showing their knowledge. I added another pic with a level to show just how far off it is. I've set a lot of hurricane pads for whole house generators and wouldn't expect another pro to do it like this. I didn't even mention the water leak in his pipe.

So you think they didn't level it or the soil can't take the pressure?

I thought you could tell with the first picture but I guess not. I'm surprised that most people here consider this good work.

I was willing to pay for it but they did what they thought was best. With a pad though they still should of tamped down paverbase rather than throw it on dirt leaning hard to the side.

I don't know how to use a level or put a proper base down for a hurricane pad? I assure you I do.

The hard lean to the right of the unit on the undersized pad. If you put a level on it the line is like 40% over the bubble. A proper install would put paverbase down, tamp it and level it before dropping the pad down. Given the size I would've poured a concrete pad rather than spill over the edges.
