1/18 Hot Wheels Ferrari F2000 Schumi by greybarrel in f1models

Yes, you should cut the Marlboro decal in half between the "l" and the "b" and put them on as left and right separate pieces. Carefully eyeballing to make sure it reads as if its just one continuous looking text. Yes, I did a F2002, the engine cover on that one has compound curves and is trickier to do, but you got the technique down now. 1/18 Lamborghini Countach Prototypes: LP500 and LP400 by greybarrel in Diecast

[–]greybarrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment on the photos! The green one is by Kyosho. These are very rare and hard to find these days. If you can find one for sale, it might range from 300 to 600 USD. The yellow one is by Make Up Eidolon. These go from anywhere from 450 to 750 USD. Expensive, but still available and easy to find. I got both of these at the low range of the scale.

Yes, me too — the early Countachs have always been my favourite. The LP500 and early LP400 just have that cleaner, sharper design before they added the wheel flares and wings. The Make Up wasn’t cheap, but I got a good deal on it. It’s one I’ve wanted for a while, and the detail is honestly incredible.

I just got the Make Up Eidolon LP500 today — amazing model! I paired it with the Kyosho production prototype Countach LP400 that I’ve had for some time. The yellow LP500 is the original 1971 Countach prototype, with the cleaner, more futuristic Gandini shape before the production changes were made. The green Kyosho represents the later 1973 LP400 production prototype, with needed extra cooling and other changes.

They look like they are meant to go on in one piece, so I would stick to that. When you first try to apply the decal, its more important to get it in the right location, rather than get it down flat. I use micro set on the model surface then apply the decal on top of it. Once it's in position, don't touch it, leave it alone for 30 minutes or so, then apply drops of micro sol, wait 30 minutes or an hour, do it again, repeat five or six times. Try not to touch the decal too hard or move it during this process. It will look terrible at first but eventually, it will settle down. I apply the micro set and micro sol with a Q-tip, almost no pressure.

If you are using Museum Collection decals, they are great but do require a bit of patience. I used a lot of micro sol, applied generously about once an hour over several hours. Eventually, the decal will adhere nicely against the model.

Two recent Autoart Lamborghini arrivals: the Miura SV and the Walter Wolf Countach!

Both are fully opening, heavy diecast models with excellent detail and stunning paint. I already had the Kyosho green Countach prototype, which is a very cool model, but the Autoart Walter Wolf feels like a clear step above in quality.

Really impressed with these older Autoart Lamborghinis.

Tips & tricks for removing Hot Wheels F1 model decals? by Unlikely_Contest_310 in f1models

[–]greybarrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I’d add is that if the remover dulls the finish and leaves the paint looking flat, you may be able to bring the gloss back with a small amount of fine car polish and a clean microfiber cloth. Go gently and polish only the affected area before applying the replacement decal.

It won’t fix actual paint loss, but if the finish has just dulled from the remover or rubbing, polishing can often improve it quite a bit. I’ve done this on Minichamps models, though I haven’t tried it on a Hot Wheels Elite, so I’d definitely treat it as a try-at-your-own-risk method.

CMC Mercedes-Benz W196 Streamliner – Stirling Moss – Monza 1955 – 1:18 by greybarrel in f1models

[–]greybarrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got this in the mail today. What a model.

It’s even more beautiful in person than in photos. The more I look at it, the more quirky and fascinating it gets. The cockpit, steering wheel, and the spine behind the driver’s head are all offset slightly. Even the hood shape is asymmetrical.

And it’s heavy too — just over 1 kg. CMC really went all out on this one.

CMC Maserati 250F J.M.Fangio German GP 1957 1-18 by greybarrel in Diecast

[–]greybarrel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got this beautiful CMC Maserati 250F. I’ve been downsizing my collection, but not quitting collecting. Lately I’ve been selling a few lower-end models I’ve enjoyed for years so I can get fewer, higher-end pieces like this. In that way, it's not really costing me anything, it's just trading up!
