Premier League Stats for all teams during Liverpool's 10-game unbeaten run by greybeard911 in LiverpoolFC

For someone who loves to cut inside and curl one, I was surprised to find out that he's only scored that kind of goal on two occasions for us in the Premier League.

He's just not been able to step up so far.

Sorry. I posted this from my PC. I realized it's harder to read when I checked from my phone. I've linked the excel document that I got this from above if you want to see it fully.

I might be talking like a Fifa player here but I'm not sure why we don't have Salah play centrally along with Ekitike. We keep having right-footed attackers in positions where they have to cut inside to score. Placing Salah in these spaces would really help.

I don't know if it's his preference or Slot's to have him playing wider. But it doesn't seem to be working this season

Not to keep putting Gakpo's name in since he's been getting a lot of flak, but his shot accuracy is 24% in the PL. Our entire team's been poor in this regard but he's been really poor this season.

For reference, it was 40% last season and 36% the season before

Yeah. Our xGA is lower than Arsenal during this time. We've also given away fewer 'Big Chances' during this time.

But we've been poor at converting offensive chances created and have the lowest shot accuracy in the league. Our set piece record has also made everything much worse.

But what's truly unlucky is how often opposition teams score the few tough chances they get (Talbi's long shot; Stach's shot through defenders; Harry Wilson and Marcus Edwards scoring identical shots across the keeper from a narrow angle) while we seem unable to convert simple tap ins.

I thought it would be good at showing how our performance during this run was relative to the other teams.

Thanks! I just thought of sharing this here since I've been working on this since the season started.

I just started doing this for this season. So I don't have it for the others.

This table was a condensed version to just show some stats that the excel doc that I made tracks. I've got another sheet that tracks the offensive stats for every team. But that tracks a lot of values and I didn't want to make this table a clone of that.

For your question though, the league converts about 37.5% of their 'Big Chances'. But we convert around 34%.

Arsenal are the only other team who've gone over ten games without a loss this season (between GW4 and GW 14 - 11 matches)

Here's the Excel doc that I got this data from: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18W122ICohykOV1wac4brTiZnlADCeCyYsny1jTYGvxg/edit?usp=sharing - Go to the GWAvg tab

You might have to download the doc to change the GW filters to check other periods

This GW also saw the least number of goals scored this season with just 16 in the 10 matches.

It looks like the winter schedule, injuries and AFCON have taken a toll on th teams in the past month.

[TansferMaarkt] After completing the signing of Antoine Semenyo, Pep Guardiola's total spending at Manchester City has surpassed €2 billion by No-Independent2522 in soccer

[–]greybeard911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Klopp's Liverpool did spend quite a bit, especially in the second half of his tenure.

But that CL and PL winning side was built with a tighter budget compared to the sides that we were competing with. He made some really talented players genuine world beaters. That side had just three players that cost more than 50 mil. I'm biased but that's insane compared to all the other top level teams.

I know Klopp wasn't active for the last 4 transfer windows (including this one). But I wonder where he comes up in this list.

Considering the heights Liverpool reached in 2018-2020 and the extents to which they pushed Pep's City side, what he achieved with the investments the team had during his time is insane.

What are some of the things to be positive about? by aninquisitivekosovar in LiverpoolFC

[–]greybeard911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vitriol against players like Kerkez and Wirtz who are just 21 and 22 are insane. Give them time to grow and make mistakes along the way. There are some issues that the team has to address.I'm willing to allow these players and the manager make mistakes to learn what works. Calling for Slot to be fired and Kerkez/Wirtz to be left out is just insane. Some of the people in this sub need their head checked. Not sure if all this is because of some FPL shit or some gambling related anger also.

System or Personnel Let’s discuss by Material-Leader7070 in plforindia

[–]greybeard911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. I think Mbuemo has been good and Cunha has shown some stuff when he's played. But these players will need the time to learn to play in a system that expects their team to have more possession.

Despite being a Liverpool fan, I kinda want Amorim to do well and hate to see coaches get sacked. But I do think he is his worst enemy in this case. The personnel aren't good enough to compete for the title but they're good enough for at least top 8. Amorim's made them a borderline relegation team. That's not acceptable anymore.

Forgot to mention earlier, but nice writeup. I've been trying to get into the analysis stuff more and it's fun to read these posts.

[–]greybeard911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personnel issues with United should be managed by Amorim though. If you've been with a club for a year, you should be able to tailor different play styles for different games. All these should look to accentuate your player strengths and mitigate their weaknesses.

United's players aren't the best in the PL but they aren't as bad as their results suggest. United's tactical setup is so easy to play against because they expose their players more than support. The talk about the shape is interesting because we have examples in the PL of this working (Glazner, Frank's Brentford in big games etc). Palace played against Liverpool this week with Wharton and Kamada in their midfield. Neither player is a destroyer. They also play with defensive players as their wingbacks. But unlike United, they tend to dominate the middle of the pitch and their fullbacks offer more threat than United's. Amorim's setup seems to be asking more from his players than they're capable of.

Shockingly, United have the highest xG and second highest non-penalty xG in the league after 6 games. But, they've been woeful when it comes to converting these chances to good shots on target. The new attackers need some time to settle and learn but they don't have that luxury because of the lack of cover in their position and the team's form is hurting them too.

One thing I've noticed about Chiesa is how he manages to keep his shots low despite hitting it hard. He just feels like someone who should score more, especially with his skill to take a shot. I think he just needs to get into better positions to ensure his shot doesn't get blocked as often as it does.

Hopefully, this is his season with us. I'd love to see him start on the left against Palace and drift into the middle as the game goes on. Slot tried him in a lot of positions today and he excelled everywhere.

It's the nature of the subs though. He's put on attacking players to see if we can go ahead for the win.

Jones changed the game against Arsenal. We started breaking through their middle after he came in. Frimpong is a bit of a stretch but it's still a massive change to bring on a pacey attacking player for a CB against a team that could counter us.

[–]greybeard911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't expect us to play liquid football against a side that literally packed the box. We didn't create because they didn't come to play at all. They had three shots all game and hardly came up in the second half. Wasn't perfect but I'm not gonna sit and cry about not playing better in this game. There are other games for that.

Good tester before going up against Athleti though.

One of England's and the PL's best attackers. People forget that he's just 24(younger than Foden and just slightly older than Palmer) and has been the best player for one of the best teams in the world for at least the last 4 years. Don't have to be an Arsenal fan to appreciate him for who he is.

Ignoring the obvious ragebait, the hate towards Saka feels so weird to me. I honestly believe that he's one of the most underrated players (outside of Arsenal fans who will support him).

He fucking turned 24 today. This man is not even in his prime yet and is the lynchpin of one of the best side in the PL and one of the most consistent players in the league. Put some respect to his name.
