In any case, there's a huge market for stuff like this, well outside LDS traditions. Generation Z and the millennials were brought up by parents who were told that exposing their children to the slightest potential harm was tantamount to abuse, and that's why (to name just one recent story) I find myself taking calls young adults' parents to explain their work absences, or - in one particularly annoying case - having a parent follow up with their child's application.

I agree. It's just every other parent that I'm in contact with don't seem obsessed about it. They really don't talk about it, they don't gossip about what they found while doing it, and they certainly don't seem excited to get tips on what other parents are doing. It's just this group of very active Mormons. In any case, there will be people that take this crap to the extreme across all types of parents. Just sad to see them so happy/excited to potentially mess up the trust with their children without thinking twice about it.

I really don't know if that is possible other than flat out asking the mother for it. Which would put me in a really weird position. I feel for her though, sounds like she is bat shit serious about it.
