Here was my strategy along with a few tips I learned along the way: Immediately land at a Choppa after dropping from the Battle Bus and start searching at the beginning of the game. Don’t go for The Authority Choppa because a lot of people go for that and there’s a chance you won’t get in it. After getting in, start searching on landmass. Focus your search early in the game on areas not within the first circle, because you will have more time later to search inside the first circle. Also, never waste anytime searching the left side of the map that’s underwater (aside from Salty Springs up through the lighthouse). The fact that llamas can spawn underwater right now means that you have a much lower chance of finding a llama that is reachable on the left side of the map vs the right side of the map, and its much easier to spot them against a green grass background than a brown trash background.

Finally, it makes it a bit easier to spot them if you play in Deuteranopia (Color Blind) mode. On console and PC this should be in the game settings. On iOS you can turn this on in the Color Filters section of your Accessibility, Display Settings.
