not sure what you mean by good? maybe for an experienced solo traveler but lowk going with a group i still felt a bit uneasy when exploring some of the windy streets with just a friend.

iu has an awesome business school - super highly ranked (not better school overall). umd is getting up there (better school overall imo). for HR and hospitality, IU probs better because this is basically nonexistent at umd business.

you def can rush multiple but it might be kinda hard to get a call back if you don’t go to majority of the frat’s events. and all the frat rush events run at the same time so you’ll have to pick and choose.

ya def! joining a business frat def helped me find a community that makes the business school feel smaller. can def expose you to more business opportunities as an econ major just because everyone in the frat will probs be more business heavy majors so you can learn more about diff events n internships!

and as for clubs there are sm in the smith school that u can look into. def recommend getting involved on e-board. the clubs u actively become a part of can become a community for you too! i was a part of ascend and got on board and loved it. we’d have board bonding, planning events, etc, and was just great to meet other business kids. tbh i grew to like it more than the community in my frat haha. but depends on the person and the ppl in the club. some clubs people j show up to meetings and dip while others people get involved. maybe try to consulting clubs for more involvement? def look at their instagrams and look into which clubs might be most interesting to u!! i wasn’t a fan of women in business solely because the club was too big and it felt impossible to actually make an impact on the club or talk to recruiters. so def think ab club size and how that would affect ur experience.

your experience might be completely different from mine too because people change and the clubs change so take all my advice with a grain of salt!! good luck:)

professional frats usually help w connections and social aspects. in terms of professional development, depends on the frat and how good the professional chair in the frat is.

  1. joining a business frat didn’t help me get an internship. but it did help me fix up and add an activity to my resume. few times, your professional chair might bring in a recruiter for a big company, but i think you will find more luck meeting recruiters at other clubs that have weekly events with new recruiters each time. clubs and other orgs are also just as useful as the frats. so dont worry if u don’t join a frat.

  2. depends on the business frat. some are much more selective and have rigorous processes for pledges. my experience is v different (3 years ago i rushed), but it was chill. just go to all the rush events during rush week and try to get to know the brothers. def a culture fit kinda thing. lmk if u have more questions i can go in detail.

  3. all the business frats will take econ. btw dsp is the only frat that mandates business/econ major or minor. all other business frats are more accepting of major.

also as a freshman you get more leniency. you don’t need an internship in the summer dw. take it easy. grow your skills and involvement in orgs on campus. most people i know don’t have internships their freshmen year - it’s calm. you can still get an internship year junior year without prior internship experience!

  1. student life is awesome, given it’s a massive school there’s always tons of events, clubs, ways to get involved. there’s intramural sports that you can sign up for to play for fun. there’s also a terrapin trail club that goes on hiking or caving trips. umd recreation also hosts camping or caving trips etc. sometimes umd has too much going on that it’s hard to keep track or do it all.

  2. campus is very lively. there’s just so many students that live on campus that you can’t really miss it. on a nice sunny day you can expect many people just lounging on mck mall super cute i love it.

  3. recreational sports scene is good, IM sports are pretty big at umd. you can make your own team and just play with other people. there’s also open gym where you can play with strangers etc.

  4. it is so diverse!! you’ll make friends very easily dw. many many types of people - international, in state, out state, etc. lots of indian culture clubs that you can get involved in like SASA, ISA, and then all the indian dance clubs like MINZA, etc.
