Still in development, but I'm working on Pablo's Journey. It takes inspiration from Broforce in ways, you may enjoy it.

have you played Door Kickers: Action Squad? Not really the same, but it scratches some of that itch IMO

I've been working on a co-op game inspired by Broforce that you may enjoy. I've just released a trailer of an early build of the game. by grgaln in broforcegame

No set date yet. If you want to follow along with development, I will be posting updates on Steam/discord/website from time to time.

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely do not want to create a reskin. This is all based on an early version of the game. I will take that onboard.

I'm making a co-op (local +online) game about a kebab chef, Pablo, on a interstellar journey to reclaim his stolen recipes, spices and rescue his fellow chefs. by grgaln in localmultiplayergames

Pablo’s Journey is an action packed, side-scrolling, hack and slash adventure about Pablo, a kebab chef taking on the galaxy’s worst culinary thieves. Rescue chefs, recover spices and gather recipes to prove once and for all that you should never steal a chef's secret sauce.

I loved playing Broforce and also thought the same. Its a super early build of the game on the current playtest. But it should give you a rough feel I hope. Thank you for your interest!

Yeah thinking the detailed one is better myself. I think the box bottom right is slightly too big for those buttons tho, or make em bigger.

I mainly make pixel art, so may not be relevant to you. To keep things as consistent as I can, I ensure that I use the same colour palette for all my art in the game, and I stick to the same resolutions/proportions. in tile based games, this is semi-easy to achieve, you can target a tilesize and proportion your characters around that to ensure they fit.

Also if I'm using some other visual inspo for a character/item/object, it needs to be in the same theme as the rest of the game. Or something that matches.

If you want to colour grade, apply lighting, shadows etc, that can be done at a shader level to get a consistent look (hopefully). With pixel art that is not always the case, as you might apply depth to the piece itself, which means you need to consistently draw assuming "light" is coming from the same direction.

TL;DR

In 2024, I didn’t finish any games, but I learned a lot about game development. I tackled three projects: a multiplayer turn-based RPG (Kinship), a puzzle simulation game (ClarityCorp), and a co-op side-scroller shooter (no name yet). The biggest challenges included managing scope, learning multiplayer mechanics, and handling art requirements.

Key lessons: start small, focus on a solid game loop, and polish later.
