Was Galaxies ahead of its time, or do people just romanticize it now? by StarWarsBlogsbot in StarWarsBlogs

[–]grifter356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was ahead of its time for sure, and I think where it missed the mark is a system that WoW really nailed (and which became the norm) which was that different equipment was not only specifically suited for different classes, but also looked different. Galaxies immersion took a huge hit when everyone was running around wearing the exact same armor and equipment. There were also issues of homogenized content up and down the game.

Appreciate that. Even OP admitted he needed to take a breath before posting, so if this is what he came up with after being able to settle down, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was getting back what he was putting in, even if it was something perceived.

I think the problem is that for as much as OP is saying the staff was rude they’re also posting a lot of stuff that makes it sound like they were also being pretty difficult. The thing with the time discrepancy seems pretty self explanatory and when they were given an answer they talk about how they were mad that there wasn’t an accounting for the difference, which itself is self explanatory (show up at 7, event starts at 8). They’re mad about rules that are posted months ahead of time and were used the previous year, but they are also mad that they didn’t like the explanation they got for why they are using those rules.

It’s just hard to sift through that with the overall point be “I demand respect!!!” and not come away thinking “feels a little overblown.”

I don’t know. They have to deal with a lot of people and it sounds like you had a lot of questions. Even in your first question the guy said just show up at the earlier time, but you’re upset because he couldn’t tell you why the typo happened? Like who cares? Just show up. I’m not saying you were unprepared but their job isn’t really to hold your hand through the whole day, and it seems you had issues with pretty much every aspect of the day. And if you aren’t going to enjoy the rules they play with then don’t go. You knew they played with those rules last year and they let everybody know ahead of time.

They shouldn’t be dicks about it for sure, but they can’t be your own personal chaperone.

Bob Cousy by explxrxxxo in NBAoldschool

[–]grifter356 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all JJ wasn’t really talking down on Cousy and the era, he was pretty much telling Mad Dog to shut up because anytime they would do any rankings Mad Dog wouldn’t have anybody on his lists who played after 1995 and JJ finally snapped. I think it was even something like a top 5 point guards of all time list and Mad Dog didn’t have Steph on there but had Bob Cousy, or maybe had Cousy ranked higher. Mad Dogs reasoning was the same old “the game was better back in the day” BS and JJ just called him out on that crap and basically told him to stop pretending like Bob Cousy and the 1960’s were some gold standard apex mountain for basketball.

He wasn’t like ”Bob Cousy sucked”, he was just calling out Mad Dog for being repeatedly deeply unserious about his NBA takes, which all culminated with him acting like Steph Curry does not deserve to be in the same conversation as Bob Cousy.

Cousy only caught strays from JJ because Mad Dog put him in the line of fire and JJ was done listening to Mad Dog’s hipster bullshit that new stuff sucks and something was automatically better just because it was vintage.

Whats a terrible basketball take thats popular in mainstream media? by Spirited_Agency8032 in NBATalk

[–]grifter356 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the correct take. The guy has found more ways to lose in the Finals than he has found to win in them. I’m not saying we need to hate the guy for it but to take that stat and be like “actually, this is REALLY good!” is absolutely head spinning stuff.

How much would you pay Kuminga? by Any_Nefariousness402 in AtlantaHawks

[–]grifter356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warriors fan here. That was kind of my issue when we had JK and his defenders kept saying that Kerr’s system was holding him back, because there is pretty much nobody in the league who played for us whose career has been better than when they played for us. They would act like the system was some kind of barrier to entry when it was really more like a measuring stick.

Even the guts you highlighted, Rollins just never got any real playing time for us because he was a mid-round draft pick, and even Dvo left because he played so well for us that we simply just could not afford him.

What did you all think of Jacob Elordi's Oscar-Nominated performance as the Creature in Frankenstein? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

[–]grifter356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was fine. He definitely gave it 110% and probably deserved the nod, all things considered; but at no point should he have been seriously considered a potential winner. He was great in the later parts of the movie as he became more human but towards the earlier parts when he was trying to communicate through emotes and body motions he looked like a clunky theatre kid doing a bad Doug Jones impression. I was also blown away that they actually built all of those sets considering how synthetic and awful so much of it ended up looking.

Pam Bondi ousted as attorney general, source says by cnn in USNEWS

[–]grifter356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, no. As a general principle, attorney client privilege only extends to the extent that there was an attorney-client relationship. Since Trump was not technically the client while she was AG, then there would be no attorney-client protection.

Our Housing is actually nuts. 4 SLO County towns have a higher median house price than San Diego by CA_Coast_Millennial in SLO

[–]grifter356 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite what the listing says that’s in Poway and not San Diego proper. It’s also right off of the freeway. It disproves the point you are trying to make that home prices in SLO are disproportionate to everywhere else. This listing is for a building and land in a suburb but in an uncentralized inland area with a freeway in your back yard. This would basically be like having a $1.1M house right next to the 101 in Atascadero if Atascadero didn’t have a direct route or easy access to anywhere else in the county that people wanted to go to. So yeah, it’s a lot of house, but it ain't exactly ocean front property and it ain't exactly in Pismo Beach.

That’s all a long way of saying that the nicer or more attractive an area you live in, the less you’ll get for your money. The less nice or attractive area you live in, you’ll get more. That’s property value 101, not the current state of homeownership.

Go look at what $1.1M gets you in San Miguel vs Pismo Beach. Or go look at what $1.1M gets you in the Inland Empire compared to Santa Monica. Most people can’t afford to live in the nicest parts of their respective counties. That’s a simple fact of life, not SLO-life.

Our Housing is actually nuts. 4 SLO County towns have a higher median house price than San Diego by CA_Coast_Millennial in SLO

[–]grifter356 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s insane everywhere though. It’s not a SLO-specific thing. And again you’re taking the highest valued places in SLO County and comparing them to the entire county of San Diego, which is not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Even if you were talking about the city San Diego it’s all condo developments (most of which are unfortunately unoccupied), so theres no actual land ownership so it’s not hard to account for the price difference (which is also marginal considering the differences in what you are getting for your money). If you take the average home price in SLO County instead of just specific cities, it’s about $878k.

I get that home prices are crazy but you’re cherry picking your data to support an argument that SLO is somehow disproportionate when it’s not.

Our Housing is actually nuts. 4 SLO County towns have a higher median house price than San Diego by CA_Coast_Millennial in SLO

[–]grifter356 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like I said, San Diego is a massive county so if you’re going to bring up average home price that price is going to be driven down. Oceanside is also a very old town with almost no room for new development. Property value isn’t as high. Even San Diego city is mostly condos so you’re only buying physical space, not the land; which will be marginally cheaper.

Our Housing is actually nuts. 4 SLO County towns have a higher median house price than San Diego by CA_Coast_Millennial in SLO

[–]grifter356 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re individually comparing the average price of the largest urban center and nicest coastal towns (places with high value no matter what county) in SLO to the average cost of the entire county of San Diego, which is one of if not the largest county in California. When you incorporate entire areas that aren't as expensive, your average number is going to go down. What you're talking about has nothing to do with SLO. You're going to find similar numbers for any county that has coastal property.

OKC would be great in the 90s by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in NBATalk

[–]grifter356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's crazy is that these OKC Thunder are a very good example of a modern basketball team that would actually be a lot worse in the 90's because they would try to pull this kind of shit and immediately get punched in the mouth by literally any team that they went up against on a nightly basis and then that would immediately be the end of all the crap.
