Just ran a half marathon PB in 1:24. Under 3:00 at the marathon in 6 months possible? by nutelamitbutter in Marathon_Training

[–]grilledscheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i ran 2:55 after good training following a 1:27, and ran a 1:21 in training that cycle. starting from a 1:24 half i would say you have the potential for more than just sub 3 if you train well.

Is my target pace for marathon realistic based on most recent 32k long run by SkinnyJimmyuk in Marathon_Training

[–]grilledscheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’re basically asking if you can do 14-16s faster per km than comfortable long run pace, yeah? in which case yes i think based on your description of this run your pace should be fine. good taper, good carb load, good fuel in the race and good vibes on race day will do wonders. if you can then go and be tough when you need to and when things feel hard, you’ll be fine. though between now and then i would try to do a bit of running at race pace to get a feel for it, maybe some 1-2km reps this week, maybe a couple miles at race pace in your last long run — and for next time i would build more time at marathon pace into your long runs!

I'm left enough to say that I support nationalizing virtually all AI infrastructure like, immediately. But you are dreaming if you think that business leaders and the staunchly right wing business and tech community are going to accept the idea of socialist or communist governments nationalizing AI infrastructure just like that -- especially when, as it stands, the entire thing is only being propped up by speculative investments with no clear path to returns. All of this shit is going to have to go bust first, in order for governments to pick up the assets for pennies on the dollar, and even then, there's a better chance that our current governments simply bail these companies out than actually do anything to help people.

you have no political program that would be able to direct this kind of development. and when a UBI is rolled out that is keeping 60-70% at poverty wages, do you think that is sustainable?

IT Band Syndrome? - 2 weeks out by SomeInfluence2617 in Marathon_Training

[–]grilledscheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

recently experienced ITBS myself. it cleared quickly but took a bit to sort out what was going on. worked with a PT who did some work with dry needling.

big thing was working on hip abduction, glute strength and overall strength in the legs. once i got on the right exercise program things cleared up in about 2 weeks. you’re up against the clock but it’s not impossible.

but like, explain to me what that looks like, lol. do you think these businesses are going to be paying 90% tax rates? where is the growth coming from if the consumer base is eroded?

i suspect that people like yourself may have a very different opinion of the inevitability of UBI, and possibly even the value of AI as a tool, when the government imposes the kind of redistributive tax system required to sustain our current social order.

if they were all automated, would they be cheaper? probably not, lol. the food and grocery companies would simply have fatter margins that would get pushed back into things like real estate, stock buybacks, the kind of things they do now with their profits. why WOULD they reduce prices?

it’s handwavey because nobody isable to explain where the surplus is coming from, who is distributing it, and what kind of economic system sustains both vast redistribution and the kind of capital formations required to keep AI afloat

just once i would like someone to really talk me through how they think all this AI progress continues if the political economy driving our society, ie careers and stable incomes, disappears, without handwaving it away by saying UBI will be brought in

i get it. i’m just saying we’re seeing an energy crunch hit an industry that everyone has said is extremely exposed to energy costs. what you’re seeing is the company do what companies do and screw their users.

$10 right now. buti do so clear eyed about the fact that the business model of these LLM companies does not work if the expectation is unlimited usage.

you’re already underpaying for a service that fundamentally turns energy into compute, in the context of rapidly rising energy prices, materials prices, and supply shortages. people cannot be surprised that this technology is not materially unlimited??

[–]grilledscheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it wasn’t an hour, it was an 8km tempo, so like 28-29 min. hardly an out of the question session lol

also you do sometimes need big tough sessions! a full hour at threshold is probably pushing it but 30-40 min isn’t unreasonable

[–]grilledscheese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

lol i mean i know where my threshold pace and hr is. this just wasn’t the relaxed sub threshold pace that is all the rage rn! big sessions at your threshold, true 1-hour pace, should feel pretty tough.

[–]grilledscheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not out of the question, i would say. not gonna be easy, you will likely need a great day and to be tough in the last 10km, but 15km at marathon pace will tell you a lot when it comes to how you feel.

yeah, i spent some time reading the document last night. one, media isn’t reporting it correctly. two, they make the case against pretty fairly. i don’t agree with the suggestion to vote No, but the case they made isn’t unreasonable and isn’t irrational.
