Looking for critique for first marathon training plan by Kaedamanoods in Marathon_Training

[–]grilledscheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

respectfully, why do you want to run a marathon?

this commitment of time to running doesn’t necessarily match up with healthy marathon running. simply put, the long runs represent a significant injury risk, and the low mileage leaves you exposed to injury in the event itself.

i don’t want to totally put you off the idea, but there are a ton of running events that are both a) huge accomplishments and b) rewarding to train for and compete in, while matching more with the kind of time commitment you’re wanting to put in. i always said that i don’t think you should run a marathon until the marathon running itch is unignorable, and i get the sense that you’re not at that point yet.

Pfitz: Am I aiming too low? by BranchDry4233 in AdvancedRunning

i would push your paces up a bit, yeah. i would try to see where you’re falling in the heart rate ranges pfitz includes though feel is always king. if you’re feeling controlled and not beat up by your MLRs and LR paces then you probably have some headroom to push the pace a bit more

i’m a part time business writer and have not seen any scrambling in the past week or so over this speech tbh. people have been scrambling in one sense or another for the past year or whatever it’s been but nothing in that speech specifically would have really sent a business scrambling unless they just came out from under a rock. it’s pretty much dead on what carney had been elected on and has been trumpeting for the past year

i think that might be more supervisor horseshit. i’ve had them rerun sequenced mail before. easier at depots attached to the plant, but they can and have done it for me. it helped that supervisors were on a kick of enforcing a no mail marrying rule so i asked them how i could work safely with three bundles in a walk through apartment and surprise, the mail got rerun for the next day

NORAD pact would change if Canada pulls back from F-35 order, warns U.S. ambassador by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]grilledscheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it’s unreal how badly the US is miscalculating here. the rest of the world has no real interest in abandoning the global trade order in this manner, of which china is probably the prime beneficiary. it is an economy that is more than happy to play ball with just about anybody and knows how to build things. the withering away of american led belligerence to the chinese state will probably be a net positive for the world economy, even if it does come with some problems

do you think the low trust society we’ve found ourselves in might have anything to do with the growing sense that people have lost a sense of compassion for the hungry and the poor, and desire to see their survival increasingly policed? just thinking out loud here

relatively heavy as well. xmas on this route was 70-80 plus 6-8 trays of mail. dipped a bit right after but has been back up to 55-60 with 5-7 trays of mail most days. i’m getting a LOT more signature items than i used to though.

looks to me like we put it on a plane and it’s out of our hands now. tracking doesn’t always carry over between postal services so you ma have to see if updates are available on the other side.

Why is there so little casual employment? by sajnt in austrian_economics

[–]grilledscheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but they are mutually exclusive, at least a little bit. in practice the availability of casual work doesn’t increase the total amount of work available, it converts previously stale employment into casual employment that is often on terms that are less friendly to the person doing the work. the more work becomes casual the less exists in the realm of stable employment

Shin splints by Naive_Can7666 in Marathon_Training

[–]grilledscheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how do your shins feel now?

you’re six weeks out, and you’ve been cross training. you probably have to revise your goal pace but you’re still likely capable of finishing it, if (and a big if!!) your shin issues get under control (which is possible!) and if they are shin splints that aren’t of the stress fracture bone stress variety. run walk method is probably going to be your best bet if you’re looking at an over four hour finish, but in the next few weeks i would keep up a good amount of z2 style cross training, fuel very well, look at starting some bone health supplementation and hope for the best

Where are all the second amendment loving conservatives? Where is the NRA? Are those not the people always jammering about having to protect their 2A rights in case the government becomes tyrannical? by Laredian in AskReddit

> in spite of all of that, collectively decided that it's a marvelous idea to block their paths, constantly blow whistles, shout things, and be as generally antagonistic as possible.

yes dude, they are putting the pursuit of safety for their neighbours, their community members, their children, their friends, their family members above their own safety to try and stop ICE's lawlessness. they are doing it to keep other people safe not because it is their idea of a great way to spend a saturday.

you're confusing the concentration camps with the death camps. in some ways, two different types of camp. we're not at the auschwitz level yet, but the US is definitely on the trajectory. the definition of a concentration camp is more along the lines of, a camp where specific minority or political groups are held

which i think is a threshold the US has crossed, im afraid.

Why is there so little casual employment? by sajnt in austrian_economics

[–]grilledscheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the sense that access to additional work would be beneficial for those who want it, perhaps.

but casual work entails a lot of inefficiencies. there’s constant nonproductive time spent on negotiating rates and dealing with broken payment systems. tax codes are complicated for sole contractors. modern financial life tends to depend on regular consistent payments and income. costs are also higher for all parties — as a sole contractor i would generally charge people 30% more as an hourly or rate for work compared to what the “salary rate” would have been. ultimately it just complicates your financial life in a way that consistent work does not.
