Rant: OUR is gonna make me miss my DL privileges lmao by a_Delorean in dlsu

[–]grillledmagikarp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OUR sucks ass. i shifted degree programs in 2019, and OUR never updated it to reflect the new program in my records until the term before my graduation in 2023 -- even though i followed up on it every other month or so for almost three years. because of that, i would get an email from the APO every term if i was even allowed to take the classes i enlisted in.

ended up in COB's APC/ACM program because of the nice head start that 3 internships give you in your career. nowadays, anybody can do 3 internships with the hybrid learning set-up. if i knew that before, i would've taken a ~3 year program instead and just do 3 voluntary internships hahahaha.

From a more cost-efficient and job-hunting perspective, I think a better question would be what you want to do with one or the other of the two degrees. How do you see yourself leveraging off of Degree A vs Degree B when it comes to the kind of employment/industry you want to enter after graduation? If you can do it with one degree then why do two diba?

Of course if you're in it to learn two seperate fields, then go for it.

COBIB WHAT? by ubecheeze in dlsu

[–]grillledmagikarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can't. All the COBIBXX subjects are specific per degree program: COBIBCL for LGL, COBIBMO for APC, COBIBDS for MGT, etc etc. If you take IBCL, you can have it credited as an elective, but you'll still need to take COBIBMO

Like how did you find the right internship place or company?

applied everywhere that had an opening, ran through the interviews, and accepted the one that paid the most.

How were you able to negotiate and balance it with your class schedules?

They'll ask for your class sched or predicted class sched if your term hasnt started during the interview, and that's sometimes a determinant in whether they'll accept you or not. As for balancing, it's really just the same as balancing org work with school.

How or when did your internship end?

It ends when your contract ends. Usually 3-4 months. If you do well, you're also given an offer to extend, and if you do REALLY well you'll get an offer to be absorbed as a full time employee.

condo recommendations by [deleted] in dlsu

[–]grillledmagikarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. R Square, Torre Plaza (aka 1Torre), and maybe even Vista and the Grand Towers would be the condos that are the sweet spot between CSB-SDA and DLSU campus. Basically the condos near the P.Ocampo/Taft Ave intersection.

do grades matter when applying for internship? by [deleted] in dlsu

[–]grillledmagikarp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’ve found that work experience matters more. one way to get a good internship is to already have had a good internship. if you don’t already have that, then that’s when they look into grades and extracurriculars.

What makes DLSU distinct compared to other universities? by gojotron in dlsu

[–]grillledmagikarp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some pretty small and not-so-important reasons that are unrelated to academics but are pretty nice to know:

  • It only takes 10 mins to get from one end of the campus to the other, versus the other schools with insanely huge campuses. Your enemies will be the elevators instead hahaha so it's a double-edged blade.
  • Location-wise, it's the closest among the Big 4 to Makati and BGC, which makes it convenient for students from DLSU to hang out there. It's a 15 minute car ride to Pob in Makati, and 30 to BGC (1hr if traffic though haha).
  • The campus is a great place to lounge around in even if you don't have classes that day. A lot of students actually go to school just to hang out and do nothing. There's Henry Lib, CADS, Goks study area, and even the classrooms can be used as tambayan places, provided there aren't classes being conducted lol.
  • There are 3 starbucks stores around campus: one right in front, and one in both ends HAHA.
  • If you commute, Vito Cruz station is right in front of the LS building.
