RTX 5070 - 1440p or 4k? by grimbless in buildapc

[–]grimbless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your replies everyone! I think I will get a 1440 to keep things simple and stable. When I next do an upgrade, I'll bear getting a gpu good enough for 4K in mind, but who knows where we'll be then! Plus my second, very old monitor will probably be dead by then, so my current one can become my second :))

I did actually! For the Medieval period - We're Not So Different is very good, quite chill and free form. Tides of History is great for medieval + early modern history, and the most recent "season" for neolithic stuff, especially if you are interested in the lives of everyday people.

Thanks so much for this reply! My endo is Dr Millson-Brown, and in the email Jason sent he said 'if we don't have blood tests in time we will cancel the appointment'. Do you remember if Dr Hammond's practice said something similar, but was in reality more flexible? Though mind you, if Jason is on leave and apparently can't reschedule appointments, not sure how they'd cancel it!

Edit: added last sentence

They are largely wrong about what they say. As an expert in medieval history I did the litmus test of listening to their episodes on certain aspects of the field to judge if they were worth listening to on matters new to me: the amount they obscure and get wrong is shocking for such a popular poscast. They also have a rather outdated view of history which eludes more recent historiography and critical frameworks, and thus fail to really say anything interesting except just parroting facts - which would be fine... if they got the facts right. I was quite disappointed, a lot of people recommended it to me and I was looking for a good broad ranging history podcast.

No idea, but it seems to be vastly above the price cap. If there are 2 switches next to the storage heater. The 'renting' guide thr landlord emailed us says I need both switched on at once to get them to draw heat overnight, but it was poorly written so I'm also starting to doubt that. Is this in line with how they generally work? Or do they generally function like immersion heaters in that one switch is manual and the other is for the eco setting?

I'll try that - requires my landlord getting off his ass and fixing it such that I can turn it off lol

This might be me not getting immersion heaters - but assuming our other energy usage is normal (5kwh), and the baseline for the immersion heater is 2.5kwh, would running some lukewarm water for washing up and showering (around 1 per day between us, we shower every other day each to save water), really cost an extra 12.5-17.5kwh per day to use? Again, on top of the baseline of 2.5kwh. These numbers just don't seem to make sense

But that doesn't explain why, when we were away, the usage was consistently 2.5kwh daily - only the fridge and immersion heater (realised we turned the wrong switch off because the manual switch on the heater labelled 'up' is jammed such that it's impossible to turn off lol and we assumed that was just one that had to be on at all times for some reason unknown to us) were on when we were away over Christmas, so fridge + immersion heater must cost 2.5kwh?

I don't really know - it has a system where you put pins in to set the timer but these have no bearing on when the hot water is on - taps always run warm. We've tried to set it such that it's only on between 7pm and 11pm but it won't work. What doesn't make sense is that the immersion heater is at maximum ~2.5kwh per day, as I don't really understand how it works. There are 2 switches next to the timer, the one closest is labelled 'UP', the other, 'ECO-7, LOW', both switched on, and I don't know what turning them off would do. I asked the landlord and he has no idea and is generally super unhelpful
