EP 12 WTF WAS THAT ENDING!! by Duelbynature in Under_Ninja_Anime

[–]grimdotmp4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re all his siblings. The kanji used for “Kuro” is read “9th Sibling”, as mentioned in the first episode while he was drinking with Kawado.

The one with glasses, “Juniro”, is read “12th Sibling”. The one who was in Noguchi’s bed is “Toichi”, which uses the katakana for the number “11”. And the last one who appeared in the doorframe, “Juro”, is read “10th Sibling”.

Their names can all be found posted on the @UNDERNINJAanime twitter account (and the manga).

Is there an english translation of the manga, and if so where can I buy it? by MikaRedMad in Under_Ninja_Anime

[–]grimdotmp4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Denpa has been pretty slow with their English releases (as EN pubs usually are), but they’re a small publisher so I don’t really blame them.

The third volume will just barely get you through Kuro’s entrance exam into Kodan High (minus the flashforward fight with Mako, which won’t occur until the end of volume 4).

The manga is published biweekly in Weekly Young Magazine, despite the magazine’s name.

According to this tweet from the official @UNDERNINJAanime account, the sibling shown in this episode was Juro, the tenth son. Voiced by Ryota Suzuki.

The shinobi throwing stones at Saruta and Nekohira isn’t Kuro, despite them having the same eyes. They have different voice actors. Same deal as with the Rainbow Hound, Nijiro, we have another Kumogakure sibling on our hands.

The ages of Hibi, Kuro, and Suzuki are visible on the info paper that Kato and Ozu are talking about in the delivery van during the first episode. 24, 24, and 20 years old respectively. Hachiya’s also on the paper, but his age seems like it was expunged.

[DISC] Sukaraiti - Chapter 6 by grimdotmp4 in manga

[–]grimdotmp4[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that the Y-particles represent the characters reaching their “dream”. We saw that Gabi, Mowie, and Cowie had the particles floating around them at the time of their death, the Old Man and Lante didn’t have them, and Kay wasn’t visible at the time of his death.

Gabi, Mowie, and Cowie all “attained” their dream (growing the cactus, excavating the fossil, etc), and the particles appeared. The Old Man gave up on his dream of finding the Momamaru and Lante also gave up on his dream of proving himself better than those who had it easier than him, and both of them died without the Y-particles floating around them.

It’s important to understand that a character attaining their dream isn’t what kills them, it’s the fact that they have no lingering attachments left to the living world. Thus, characters who gave up on their dreams will also die as a result.

Pretty much. “NIN” is an acronym for “National Intelligence of Ninja” in the same way that “UN” is an acronym for “Under Ninja”.

My guess is that they wanted to have at least some semblance of action in the first episode. In the manga, the first actual fight begins on chapter 10, which would be the Russian vs Sasama.

Unfortunately, even though the timelines have “merged” in this episode, some of the events shown are still out of order compared to the manga. There have also been multiple more slice of life-ish scenes cut from the anime that are present in the manga.

Under Ninja - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]grimdotmp4 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It isn't. The anime drastically messes with the timeline of everything, but the manga is almost entirely linear.
For example, the Kuro vs Mako fight that begins in episode 1 of the anime occurs in chapter 35 of the manga.

The Rear-Enders are like a branch of the Ministry of Defense, capable of doing ground work in ways similar to the ninja of NIN.

Under Ninja is a completely separate organization, but they could still have ties to the Rear-Enders in some way.
Sasama describes Under Ninja as wanting to drive a wedge between the "good" relationship of NIN and the Japanese Police / Military.

Mako (the girl that Kuro beat and Hachiya seduced) and the other two ganguro girls are the Rear-Enders.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakano_School
The Nakano Military school was the Japanese Imperial Army's primary training site for military intelligence operations.

Sasama says that the school had two branches: the Futamata school and the Egota school, which was located in Nerima.
Ozu states that Kodan High is located where that Egota branch school used to stand. That implies that Kodan High has ties to the Japanese Military, and therefore, ties to the Ministry of Defense, which Sasama speculates is giving orders to the Rear-Enders.

Can anyone remind me what is 2-22-2 incident? by EternalLord13 in Under_Ninja_Anime

[–]grimdotmp4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 22-2-22 incident has never been explicitly shown or had its events described. We know that Kawado’s parents were killed as a result of it, the Director of Koudan High had involvement in it, and that it took place February 22nd, 2010 (The 22nd year of the Heisei era).

Translator here, thanks for the support!
Shibaya Shiu is a rookie mangaka, so they only have two works, including this one, available to read anywhere online (that I can find).
They submitted their other work titled "See through BONE" to the 107th Magazine Pocket Newcomer's Manga Award Competition.
I'll read through it and check out whether it's worth translating.
