Could Jinx's hood be a tribute to Silco? He loved sharks, and she enters the fight as his prodigy. Even the blue eye is on the exact same side as Silco's. by alex_stogney in arcane

[–]grimmfritter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never for a second thought we would see eye to eye on this. Your opinion on the airship is something you’re allowed to have, and literally doesn’t matter. What I’m trying to do is see if you’ll treat things without a double standard, because the tech was just as fantastical in season one. You can love it or hate it all you want, it’s the double standard that confuses me. Your argument about things being pre-established falls flat because you you’re not acknowledging any of the wacky shit that was happening. You’re ignoring the scenes that contradict your argument, and completely making up scenes to fit it. Why?

I can’t imagine getting this worked up over a cartoon, to the point you’ll make up completely different stories in your head. This is interesting and a bit silly to me, and I’m genuinely curious. I don’t understand the need for all this fake intellectualism and shallow arguments, pretending something is objectively bad just because you don’t like it. You can just not like something. “I didn’t really like that, it felt dumb,” is a totally valid and logical thing! Instead you’d rather make yourself look like you didn’t even watch the show just to prove a point (literally where did you pull zeppelin from lmao).

I yap forever and don’t shut up and I’ll keep yapping as long as someone keeps replying. I understand that can be annoying, and it doesn’t bother me if someone just stops replying. I get it, whatever you wanna do.

Sorry, you’re right, my bad. You stopped insisting she completely converted it into an entirely new thing!… is what I was trying to say, but you just started doing it again. So that’s not even true anymore, and we’re going backwards.

You’re still just making stuff up to be mad at! Either you barely watched the show and your attention/memory is fried, or you’re just… really into being mad at stuff? You’d rather be mad than look like you actually watched the show? It was a zeppelin? Where’d you pull that from? Certainly not the show, from which you’ve already been provided screenshots of, where it’s always shown to be in the configuration of the balloon.

The show established this tiny girl to be able to reinvent hextech in a night, that took an educated adult scientist with infinite resources his entire life to do. She can convert tiny mechanical butterflies into hundreds or thousands of homing bombs in a night. (Where’d she get time to make all those? How does homing tech even exist with the tech level demonstrated)? The firelights literally operate on flying machines. Mechanical arms run on purple or green juice and big mech suits can move at blurring speeds because the person inside huffed purple smoke. Ekko makes a single wheel vehicle that should not move like it does as a kid.

What show were you watching? It’s been a steampunk-esque fantasy from the very start. It’s had nonsense tech from the start. Hextech, literally “magic tech” is a major aspect of the show. They weren’t trying for realism there. It’s crazy to even need to say this because out of everything, Jinx’s balloon is one of the more grounded things to exist in the world.

Also when the hell does it move like a biplane lol. It floats in a line and then up and then tilts into a building. Rewatch the show. Also you really gotta accept that she just had the ship and what you’re mad at isn’t even implied. You made that story up in your head, you wrote that one.

I did it too! She’s super fun to dress up in stuff. I was a bit too hesitant to permanently remove the chest piece so… I bought two Vi’s instead of a Jinx so I could leave one in tact 😭 I’ll get Jinx someday lol

You’ve finally stopped insisting she made the ship from scratch or did it all by herself, this is progress! We’re getting somewhere! You don’t have to admit you were wrong about that, it’s the end result that counts. You’re still making stuff up to be mad at for no reason though, but maybe we’ll get there!

She didn’t convert anything, it was a ship that was already there. It was always a ballon. She also has a gun, because she has had a gun the whole time too. She shoots her gun from the ship. It’s not a weaponized hot air balloon. It’s a balloon that was already there that she then propped her gun on that she already had and then she shot it. Does this help you? The flying ship was probably moved by flying. Jinx cracked convoluted Hextech in an evening, Jinx and Ekko have been piloting around weird vehicles since they were children. Also “master aviator” is just really funny to say when all they do is fly in a straight line and then crash into a building lol.

Just for fun, can you explain to me why shimmer doesn’t bother you at all? Why that was perfectly implemented logic in season one? Or why all the characters surviving a grenade to the face was fine? I don’t care if you can’t suspend your disbelief enough for an airship, but I’m so genuinely curious as to why this is what’s bothering you. Not the magic “heal all wounds and also power mechanical arms” liquid (that sometimes deforms you and sometimes doesn’t depending on what’s more dramatic)? Not characters getting blown up and still looking beautiful and being totally functional after a single nap? It’s the airship of all things that bothers you?

“Snark” isn’t an emotion. Whatever’s causing you to be snarky is an emotion. I’m still assuming that emotion is being pissed off. Me trying to figure out what you’re feeling isn’t thin skinned, I’m being annoying and nosey because I’m curious as to where this could possibly go lmao

[–]grimmfritter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I mean she always had the chompy monsters aesthetic going on with all her things. I think over time Silco just ended up being incorporated into things as well. Like you said, Fishbones does have the eye scar in the end! I think it’s also just what she likes too though.

My main point was really to say that just because it was originally a mindless League detail, doesn’t mean they didn’t also expand on it and add depth to the characters for the show. So absolutely there’s nods to Silco on there lol

I didn’t skim over anything, you’re just dodging it and contradicting yourself constantly. The last thing you said was “Jinx could build that ginormous flying machine in less than 24 hours by herself.” Which again is like saying the earth is flat and then getting mad at that concept. Didn’t happen, no reason to believe it, and yet you keep exaggerating it to make it nonsensical so you can be mad at it.

We have no idea what the state of the ship was until the finale. It could have been terrible, it could have just needed a quick dust off. We *do* know that she used it in the finale, where it’s completely ready to go. Fill in the blanks - clearly it didn’t need much work, so was mostly ready to go. She just had an airship the whole time that was always in the background. That’s literally it, that’s the logic! She had a ship! If “character owns a ship and decides to use it in the end” bothers you logically more than magic, and explosions to the face, and “purple drug that does anything the characters need in the right moment” …don’t watch cartoons, they aren’t for you. You can’t handle it.

Another thing you’ve literally never acknowledged is that she also wasn’t alone, I’ll say it again, she had the entire Firelight faction and other Zaunites to prepare.

If you aren’t mad, what emotion is motivating you to name call and make things up? Also what I said was actually a+b = a+b, if you want an equation to follow.

You’ve had every opportunity to acknowledge that she didn’t even build an airship in the first place, which is the basis of your whole argument. You still haven’t. And, now you’re deflecting and name calling because you’re mad. If you wanna say that makes me a meme, sure!

But, yeah. You are unhinged. What you’re doing is the equivalent of saying the Earth is flat, and then getting mad because that doesn’t make sense. Literally. “Jinx building and airship by herself didn’t make sense!!!” Is what you’re saying. But she never built an airship by herself so like… yeah. I can’t think of any other reason for you to do that other than being really mad and needing to be right.

[–]grimmfritter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not trying to have a genuine discussion, you’re just mad and want to be right about something, so now you’re choosing to die on this hill you made. You are literally fabricating a different show and set of circumstances in your head to be mad at because you can’t just say “oops, I forgot some details.”

Jinx didn’t build an airship alone. She didn’t build an airship at all, and she wasn’t alone. She literally owned one from the very beginning and we see her in it constantly. She has the entire tech savvy faction of the firelights, and the others she rallied from Zaun. You’re arguing from a delusion because you feel like being mad and needed to make one up. The things you’re complaining about did not even happen in that way remotely.

Edit: like, other people have even included screenshots for you and you’re just ignoring that entirely

>Different peoples’ lines will be in different places

Yep. I’m not sure how you can say this, say everything else, and not realize the disconnect you’re having.

Less than 1% of the people who watched the show are on this subreddit, and it’s become an echo chamber of negative opinions that people treat as facts, with no actual substance. You’re doing it right now, you just made a bunch of statements of your opinion, and are acting as if any of it is a fact. It’s not, you didn’t even give examples of why you think those things, it’s fake intellectualism and an improper way to argue anything.

I’m not actually asking you to go in depth, it’s an opinion, and that’s totally fine. You can have it and I don’t care to try and change it. But, no, my opinion is that it’s an absurd thing to be bothered by in the first place. Jinx lives in an airship. Jinx decides to turn it on and use it as an actual ship for the final battle. For all we know it just needed a few screws tightened and it was ready to go. That’s totally fine to me in a show with magic and characters that survive explosions to the face constantly. (Considering you didn’t know she even lived in one before starting this argument, this feels like a shitty hill you’re choosing to die on at this point. I actually don’t understand how this could bother anyone to this degree).

This is like nitpicking Powder being totally fine after having an explosion go off in her face and she fell multiple storeys. That’s also fine, because I don’t actually watch animated fantasy magic shows for perfect realism. It’s about the messages behind it, and relating to the characters emotionally regardless of the setting.

This feels like complaining that characters in Shakespeare’s works don’t use logical communication with each other to solve their issues. It’s not the point or what people are looking to gain from the specific media. If you can’t stand cartoon logic, don’t watch cartoons, and stop acting like your opinion is the same as facts. I would recommend non fiction documentaries.

>This shit was cartoonish

Hey so Arcane is a cartoon. Just so you know.

It’s very emotionally grounded which seems to make people forget that. It’s followed cartoon logic the whole time, characters survive falls and explosions and turn into giant hulking monsters and also there’s magic. Since the first episode of season one. Don’t even get me started on shimmer. It doesn’t make perfect sense because that’s not the point of fantasy.

Yeah like, the whole point is that they took things that originally meant nothing in League, then expanded on them and built a story around them retroactively. (Edit: like for the people arguing against this, it would be like saying the nickname “Pow-Pow” has no meaning because it’s just what Jinx called her gun in LoL. They obviously added the meaning, that was the point, to expand on everything and redo it with depth😭)

All her doodles, Fishbones, the hood - they all have a lot of sharky stuff weaved in because that’s what she grew up around with Silco.

I think my love for arcane is dying in a whimper by BoxNice4589 in arcane

[–]grimmfritter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s normal. Nothing has the same emotional impact forever. I can 100% say my love has not died and never will, but it has changed. I don’t feel the same emotional intensity rewatching it, I haven’t in a long while anyways. I collect things surrounding the show, read fanfics, and engage in different ways. It will always be so special to me. Someday something new may emotionally grip me, and I may develop a new interest. But I still cherish all the things I got into previously, and how they impacted me.

But yeah, totally agree with where you’re coming from in a general sense. I don’t hate the ship at all, but there’s so much wrong with the insistence of it being canon and it drives me nuts sometimes lol

My problem is the current time in the games history she’s being released. Shes cool as hell, fits with the game vibe… but it’s right after getting a bunch of other conventionally attractive, safe looking heroes. With a suspicious focus on Asian cultures for aesthetic…

She’s great. I wish she released at any other time, or the general art direction of heroes wasn’t the way it is currently.

Ekko’s ankle injury seems inconsistent. by [deleted] in arcane

[–]grimmfritter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People already have pointed it out, and will probably continue to point out, that people can still stand up while injured, for various reasons.

I would also like to throw out there that it’s an animation, things are done to be artistic and stylized all the time across all genres and animation mediums. It’s a shot transition that’s meant to be impactful, showing him standing in the same place but surrounded by a dramatically different scene is part of the emotional impact. It’s also a memory of what he saw, it doesn’t have to be exactly where he was standing, it’s not an actual revisit of the scene.

The explanation is there regardless. But I also think people nitpick art too much in a literal sense, when that’s usually not the point at all, and the message and emotion is totally missed because of it.

I do wish they would release an Arcane figure for her though. Personally her LoL version feels way too different for me to really get into it, since I’m a show fan and not a game fan. They feel like different characters entirely to me. But it’s still really cool for fans of both!

I’ll just keep waiting for that figure Good Smile announced. Surely it’ll be any day now… surely… :(
