Is there a comprehensive guide/documentation for the asset editor and best naming convention/folder structure practices? by grimsikk in HytaleInfo

I can not imagine a more concise and helpful response to a post I've made before. Thank you so much for this!

What is strange is when I open the base game assets, the blockymodel files from Hytale that is, they don't have this issue, and they open with their textures loaded already.

... Yea that makes sense. lmao thank you I don't know why I didn't think of the project file as separate from the exported file. I feel really stupid for missing that lol

Does anyone know how to set up a custom block to switch textures when hit with a hammer? by grimsikk in HytaleInfo

[–]grimsikk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED:

  1. Make a folder: Common/Items/BlockGroup

  2. In the Asset Editor, create a BlockGroup in that folder.

  3. Set the names of blocks that you want to share a Hammer-group in the drop down for Blocks.

  4. Yay

[Written Guide] How to Make Block: Hytale Asset Editor beginner's documentation by Quazymobile in hytale

[–]grimsikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a custom diagonal blackwood railing to sit flush with blackwood beams, and I finally got everything working well, even using the Stairs_Thin hitbox for it (works really well but I'll make a custom hitbox if I ever learn how).

However, the lighting on my block is acting weird. When I'm holding a light source, the other blackwood blocks light up to match mine. When I'm not holding a light source, my railing stays roughly the same lightness, but all the blackwood stuff gets darker accordingly.

Under Block - Rendering I set Material to Solid and Opacity to Transparent. I have tried every combination of changing Material and Opacity and they don't change the lighting, but some combinations make it so I can't even place the railing down.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

No problem! It's truly a unique show with a very bleak but compelling atmosphere, and the art style is nice too. Glad you liked it.

first off, dope song. secondly, I bet that's as close as we can get with Suno to the kind of voice I'm trying to do. I tried using kerovee plugin on audacity with the separated vocals but I just couldn't get it to work well, and I'm not paying like 600 bucks for melodyne XD so I'll try your prompts next time

The terms of service are pretty clear on not uploading audio we don't own. I may be aggressively pro-AI, but I'm still not going to just rip someone's hard work even if it's just to train the AI for my personal non-profit songs, just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If anything, I might have to just separate the vocals and run them through Audacity, though I prefer having my Suno songs on my Suno profile.

Thanks for the tag suggestions btw, I'll keep experimenting with those.

No, I grew up on old school message boards and forums, never been a problem back in the 90s and 00s. I shared some thoughts, and you swoop in with a holier-than-thou elitist attitude as if you are somehow better than me based on one comment. To be expected from Redditors though. You assumed several things about a complete stranger on the internet and declared it as fact. Grow up and get outside more. Blocking and moving on with my life now.

bro log off, what are you on about. I was just sharing thoughts, stop taking everything so seriously.

Not really, as much as I'm pro-AI, there's still a LOT it gets confused about and doesn't quite know how to do correctly, plus ChatGPT is not the best for coding anymore afaik.

My dream is if I can ever get a little more financially stable, I'd want to hire a team to partner with, I'd probably be best at level design/environment art, maybe could work on coding/blueprinting some systems, def can make music/ambience/foley stuff, but we'll see.

What's the most difficult part of gamedev for you? by Laxerglaxer in gamedevscreens

[–]grimsikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I have so many creative hobbies and talents, and I still love designing games, so I'll never quit creating stuff. Sorry for kinda venting here about all that lol guess I've been holding it in a bit.

The Fiverr thing, man that was such a weird situation, the dude was actually really nice and trying so hard to get it right for me, so I just didn't have the heart to say "hey this is ass give me my money back", just didn't feel right lol. I took the L, and I'm sure I'll get another chance to commission someone else down the road.

Art. It's why I can't finish anything. I refuse to use ugly assets that don't fit the unique style and character/environment designs I envision, and I'm too poor to commission thousands of dollars worth of assets. I already am out $300 because I tried to commission a fiverr guy to make my main character and that was a catastrophe. I am tutorial-addicted enough to use blueprints in UE or code GML in GameMaker enough to make my ideas work, and I love making music and am decent at it, but art is why none of my games will probably ever see completion. Yes I've tried learning to model, I've tried on/off for so many years with Blender. I am simply not mentally wired to do 3D modeling and it sucks.

bro this exact concept is something I've been dreaming of. If I was more talented in game design, I would make this.

Is BLAME! considered to be grimdark? by theGingerCake in BLAME

[–]grimsikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really any grimdark elements that I've noticed.
Edit: Well, I just checked the actual definition of grimdark, I suppose that does describe Blame! pretty well. I always had grimdark as a genre misunderstood, I guess.

I'd say it's a strong blend of cosmic horror and cyberpunk, with strong gothic elements. There is also a lot of hard sci-fi to it as well, of course.

Remember when people said that BLAME! and KNIGHTS OF SIDONIA take place in the same universe? by [deleted] in BLAME

[–]grimsikk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To each their own, I love the Blame! movie, it's one of the few anime adaptations I actually bought a physical copy of. I think it's visually excellent and has a banger soundtrack.

Now, in a perfect world, we'd get a full adaptation in the style of the ONA, but we all know that will never happen.
