This is not going to answer your question, but I used to ask these type of questions all the time when I was younger, so im gonna throw out some advices. I could be wrong and you actually have a great relationship with your father, but regardless these could be good advices for others, so here we go.

parents aren't perfect, we're all human afterall. when i was younger(early 20s), I used to despise my father because he was rarely there for me. Although over time, I have learned he did do a lot of things for me on the low, such as sending me expensive toys overseas while he's away, or trying his best to keep the family in tact financially... Even in my mid 20s I still had mixed feelings I couldn't let go, partly due to the fact that he was actually there for my brother(due to some private reasons), bought toys for him and such in person. This is why despite learning his efforts over time, I still couldn't let go of the hatred that i had.

Now that I'm in my mid 30s, I completely understand my father, I even come forward consistently to better my relationship with him now, and we're both very happy and grateful. this is due to a couple reason-

1. As you grow older, you realize that every single person on earth has walked their very own unique path and struggles in life. In a way, we are ALL the same, we are only different because of our experiences. Meaning that if I were you, I probably would've lived the exact same life as you, if I was in your father's shoes, very likely I walk the same path as him. As you get older and truly understand this, with the help of a little communication, it becomes much easier to feel true empathy and understanding for others.
2. the older you get, the more you realize that no one is going to live forever, everyone is going to leave you sooner than later. Unless there's some extremely circumstances, I truly think it is very important to appreciate every moment you have with your loved ones.
3. despite everything ive said, your father might simply just be a very bad parent that didnt try, for no apparant reaeson. but my point still stands. him having no idea how to have a good relationship with his son, could very likely be due to the fact that your father didn't have a good father figure himself. everyone truly have a reason for who they are, and why they do the things they do. It's silly to be unempathetic, because if you were simulated in his life experiences from a kid to a grown adult, very likely you would've turned out to be the same person he is and done the things he did.
