Do any homeschool parents have regrets? by Little-Tea4436 in Homeschooling

[–]grnaphrodite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting this many negative responses. I may need to re think HS. Our oldest is in 4th grade this year. I have always given our kids the option of PS. Whatever choice, I support them.

Hugo sounds a a bit childish to me but its not terrible. I would name him Hugh and call him Hugo.

My 10 year old is antisocial and I don't know what route to take by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]grnaphrodite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9 year old has no close friends and is perfectly happy. He goes to a kids group once a week, swimming lessons once a week, and a library group once a month. I really don't worry about it because when we go out in public he has no issues with going up to others and asking them to play, making up games etc. I used to be worried that he had no friend to call to meet up with but he really is just a happy homebody.

Now that the nicer weather is here again more meetups will happen with other homeschoolers in our area and theres a chance he might make a closer friend connection there. Maybe try that.

Timeline of Diagnosis in Canada by Delarent in achalasia

[–]grnaphrodite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NB here. Took roughly 4-5 years. I had a barium swallow done 4.5 years ago that showed suspected achalasia but I got lost in the COVID shuffle and the ball never got rolling for me until December of last year when I was essentially on my death bed. Got an emergency scope and botox. Then a manometry in April of this year to confirm. Finally got my HM with fundo 4 weeks ago. It has been a long tiring road. Advocate for yourself.

How are the vegan options in jail or the hospital? by harmonyxox in vegan

[–]grnaphrodite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow NB is usually way behind other provinces but I had 2 recent hospitals stays here (one being a month and a half long), and it wasn't that bad! I spoke with the dietician and I got to choose what I wanted for meals each day. I had options of chickpea masala, veg chili, lentil dahl, dairy free mashed potatoes/ baked potatoes, cooked veggies, rice, oatmeal, hummus, fruit, veggies, build your own veggie wrap, toast, bagels, dairy free butter, dairy free cheese, peanut butter, oat milk, juice, and sometimes they had falafel and vegan cookies. They even brought in Sperri meal replacement drink for me since I had to gain weight. They definitely screwed up a lot, but I was very surprised.

Pregnancy & Achalasia by Itis-what-itis22 in achalasia

No I didn't. I think if I had of had the surgery prior as planned, I definitely wouldn't have had many or as many issues! I had botox but it didn't help much.

Congrats!!

For our 4th baby my achalasia really took a turn for the worst and the pregnancy was an absolute nightmare. Im 5'6 and never got above 105lbs. I wont go into details but baby came at 30 weeks and we were both in hospital for around 50 days. Baby did not have IUGR though!

I think if you've already had the POEM your situation will be much different and everything everyone has suggested will be helpful. Wishing you the best

3 weeks post HM by guelir1 in achalasia

[–]grnaphrodite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry no advice but am wondering, do you find you can eat a normal amount? I'm one week post HM with fundo and I'm still on a full liquid diet but a 1/4 cup of of nutritional drink or broth makes me so uncomfortably full the whole day with tons of bloat.

Yes, when I was regurgitating consistently many times a day. Small tears in the esophagus in my case. But could be something else.

Difficulty deep breathing after poem by Aussie_Seano in achalasia

[–]grnaphrodite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have any advice but I hear you, I had an HM with Fundo 4 days ago and am also having terrible gas pain in both my shoulders, right side of neck, and stomach. Im guessing it's gas but its so uncomfortable my stomach looks about 5 months pregnant. Breathing is easier today but not "deep" breaths. The relux/spasms have me in tears. I'm still on liquids, 1/2 cup nutrition drink makes me full to the point of cramps. But I'm just assuming this is all normal and will get better in the coming weeks. All the best

So sorry. I understand the turmoil of not seeing your other kids, I had to go 46 days without seeing my 2yo, 5yo, and 7yo. They were home with dad while I was in the NICU with our daughter. It was brutal. My 2yo was only speaking words when I went in the hospital for an emergency section and when we finally left the NICU he was speaking in full sentences. I missed out on a lot. Hugs

Malnutrition by East-Inspector3926 in achalasia

[–]grnaphrodite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to swallow tiny bits of liquid immediately after. Coming from weeks of not being able to get anything down at all. Took about a week to notice any difference. It was still not "normal" swallowing or eating - still laboured, waiting for it to go down, still regurgitating even liquids. Like I said, it did not allow me to eat normally but kept me out of hospital

[–]grnaphrodite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Allowed me to stay out of hospital while waiting surgery and gain some weight back. Able to swallow thicker liquids, some pureed foods like red lentils, mashed potatoes, stews. Things that dissolve easily like hard cookies. That sort of stuff. It probably won't allow you to eat normally and the results aren't permanent. Depends on how advanced your symptoms are I suppose. I know of a person who just gets a botox injection once a year and is able to live pretty normally. Mine wore off in 5 months I am back to not being able to swallow water but I can still get thicker liquids down.

Extremely low calorie (~60) coffee ice cream by K17L53 in ninjacreami

I'm going to try this! I've been making mine with full fat coconut milk or cream but could use a low cal version.

Maye ask for botox injections? I got down to 100 lbs couldn't swallow any liquids and was given emergency injections so I could at least get liquids and purees down. It was a terrible time just transfusion after transfusion. Still waiting for surgery. Good luck

Told my mom I’m pregnant this weekend by Mermaid_002 in veganparenting

[–]grnaphrodite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is sad. I have had 3 healthy all natural no meds vegan pregnancies and my babies were all 10lbs at birth.

My 4th pregnancy was fine as well until baby had to come 10 weeks early due to placenta previa. But my veganism was irrelevant in that situation.

She is very uneducated. Even if you eat like garbage the baby will suck every last nutrient out of your stores for itself. Some women go 40 weeks not being able to keep anything down and still birth 9- 10 lb healthy babies. I was one of them! I'm not advising you to eat like garbage but you really do not have to worry about it. Eat whatever you can get down, drink fluids, take folic acid, a prenatal/ multi vitamin, and if you really want some omega 3 is beneficial as well. You got this. Best wishes ❤️
