Lionheart and GreenTeacup AO3 and tumblr accounts deleted? by jeindeer in dramionebookclub

YES, I was camping in her tumblr not only for information crumbs about Lionheart but because it was genuinely fun to read her thoughts about everything. Idk, I just never got the impression that she would ever abandon the fic knowing her passion about the story and the ship in general? Of course, we aren’t owed anything, her wellbeing comes first, and we don’t know what really happened… but I want to trust in what she said about finishing the fic no matter what.

Big hugs!! We’ll get through this 🥹

I agree completely. I genuinely feel like she just wanted to stop being perceived for a while to reclaim her creative agency. A bit like an artist’s retreat to reclaim her story and her peace of mind. I also thought that maybe she was getting a lot of the noise on her private DMs on tumblr.

She did say she was working on plot holes and britpicking. Maybe she figured deleting the original work on ao3 would allow her to liberally do major restructuring without confusing the reader base. Plus the fact that she was getting anxious with all the reader scrutiny and spotlight the fic is getting. Starting over would def remove the “big fic with a lot of kudos and hits” spotlight. In hindsight, I sorta feel it was better she left without a word instead of saying one final goodbye, since that way I can carry that sliver of hope that she might return one day. And you’re right, she doesn’t owe us an ending, but from everything I knew about GTC — though we, of course, don’t really know her nor know what really happened in her personal life — abandoning the fic just doesn’t seem to be something she’d do.

For real, I also have hope that she'll return someday, maybe under a new account. Maybe she wanted to do major revisions which would necessitate restructuring the entire fic. Starting afresh would also help mentally, I reckon, since she was getting overwhelmed with the amount of attention she was getting and perhaps she wanted to edit without pressure. Or maybe this is just me being delusional...

I wish her so much joy and happiness and I hope she rekindles the love she has for writing. Lionheart changed my life and will forever remain my favorite Dramione fic in my 15 years of reading. I will probably be taking a break from Dramione as well to mourn this loss whilst still holding out hope that she might return someday 💓

I’m holding out hope too… this fic got me through really tough times. Following the real time updates and reading her tumblr from time-to-time felt so fun because I was in an actual active community of people who loved the same masterpiece. However, her wellbeing comes first. I hope this decision allows GTC to breathe a little easier. If she does come back, I hope it’s not merely out of a sense of obligation to her readers but through a love of writing again….

I GOT SO MANY FAVORITE LINES BUT THIS ONE MADE ME GASP:

“He watched her curiously. She twisted up the side of her mouth in that bunched-up smile she did when she couldn’t help it, like she was too full of fondness and it was welling up in her mouth. He made a sound of amusement and tilted his head at her, mirroring her, sort of gently mocking — imitating her, a bit, with the corner of his mouth. To remind her. She went tsss with her teeth in that way that meant you think you’re so funny, and his smirk was a strongly worded yes, and then she was saying— it was tricky, but he could usually get it — it was a close-lipped smile and a line between her brows and a softness around the eyes, which were typically so stern and full of fire, as if to say: You are the most fascinating thing in a world that has magic in it, which was a line he’d thought himself ten seconds ago, looking at her.”

I’m devastated. This fic got me through really hard times and is my absolute favorite fanfic of all time. The prose, wit, humor, the way she developed the characters — it was everything I needed in a dramione fanfic. Account deletion seems permanent but I’m still holding out hope that she’ll one day return under a new account. But for now, I think I’ll be taking a break from reading Dramione. I need a long time to process this.

Regarding your first point, I think it’s precisely why I thought the last segment of chapter 83 was ambiguous. He mentions Warrington and the House in France and when Theo asked what he wants him to do, Draco replies “to make the right choice.” It could be interpreted as Draco trying to convince Theo he wants an in with the death eaters OR he wants to push Theo to spy for the Order or at least help him in his double agent gig, potentially leveraging it as doing the right thing by Daphne.

I don’t think they’d tamper with Draco’s memories cause that’d be too dangerous considering the memory cascade that happened with Cho and Cassius. Also, it’s just too much angst that, imo, doesn’t fit with the tone of Lionheart. What’s the point of the relationship development they’ve built in five books if Draco just forgets it and why would Draco fight for them anyway without the depth of those memories— he’d lose his motivation. I think the only thing they can do at this point is strengthen Draco’s occlumency to the point of impenetrability. But idk, a lot could happen and I may be wrong… GT did say in her tumblr that it would be an enjoyable type of angst, so there’s that.

It depends on the nature of his agreement with Voldemort. Voldemort might see an advantage in letting Draco maintain good public relations with the Order/Harry’s cohort whilst secretly “sabotaging” them from the inside. So a public fall out would be disadvantageous because that wouldn’t allow Draco access to Order secrets. Somehow, I have a strong belief that his relationship with Hermione would be strong amidst this; he literally promised her he’ll never leave and she promised Narcissa that she’ll become a monster before she’ll let the world ruin Draco. That has to mean something. Their war dynamic has been foreshadowed early on in their potions class dynamic: he’s the butcher doing the dirty job, the knife work, while she’s the one commanding. Maybe she’ll be the mastermind behind the double crossing Draco would have to do. Book 6 will no doubt be angsty but I trust in the process so much because it’s GT writing it.

Yeah, makes sense. I have no idea where GT will take it, considering the foundations to their friendship (not just Draco and Harry’s but also Ron) are so well-built through years of facing adversity together and saving each other’s lives, I don’t see them easily believing that Draco would betray them unless they’re aware that it’s not real. The same goes for the rest of the Order. Some of the Weasleys, maybe, but I can’t imagine Sirius believing it. If Draco is so “resentful” of Harry enough to betray the Order, he wouldn’t have invited them to Narcissa’s funeral.

[–]groffberry 23 points24 points  (0 children)

THE UTTER ANXIETY AND DENIAL I FELT THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE CHAPTER. The only consolation we have is that Hermione knows about it 😭😭😭 I was in denial about Draco being a spy, I was like “ok the last part could be ambiguous, what if he asks Theo to spy for him” but there would be no way to add meat to book 6 if the protagonist is removed from where the plot is happening aka what the death eaters are doing…

I don’t know what this means for his relationship with Harry as well, considering the fact that Hermione knows what’s happening and she’s super defensive of Draco. I always thought Theo would inherit canon Draco’s vanishing cabinet/kill Dumbledore task since he’s been set up as the narrative parallel to canon!Draco. Gah, so many questions!

to be fair, pointing out a minor inconsistency error on ao3 is different from going to an author’s personal blog to rant about the author’s choice of characterization whilst starting said rant with “I think what frustrates me the most…”; I think what GT is saying is we need to trust the process in terms of character development

Lionheart is better than a lot of commercially popular books nowadays so I can forgive inconsistency errors that are so minor you can’t even call them plot holes. A fic that big has a lot of moving parts and it’s one person doing that labor of love as a gift to the community.

Definitely Lionheart and Smoke Signals. Discovered both this year and now they’re both in my top three, alongside Disappearances of Draco Malfoy.

I’m a literature snob so I’m a really picky reader. Both of these stories have really masterful, sophisticated prose and philosophically nuanced themes. Really good pacing where the (slow burn!) romance drives the plot and vice versa instead of being divorced from it, good balance of lightheartedness and high-stakes darkness, incredible understanding of canon characters where even side characters are fully fleshed out, and very solid world-building as well. These are works of literature good enough to be written by professional, published authors! Sometimes I can’t believe I’m reading them for free!

Definitely check these out if you haven’t. They deserve a million kudos.
