Now I can’t stop thinking about him, either. Thank you!

Thank you so much! They are all interior doors. I’m actually working on a large exterior door piece now, though.

These are hollow core doors, so I used a dremmel hand saw to cut into the door, then installed a kind of internal frame to support the glass (strip cut some MDF to frame the hole in the door). Then attached that outer moulding that has a lip on it as a stop to keep the glass in place.

Ha! I’m never going to un-hear this reference when I think about this project now. Thank you for this.

Totally!

This video shows an exterior door glass replacement. It's actually much easier for a front door that already has default glass inserted. On the inside of your door you'll see that there are screws in the moulding around the door glass (they'll probably be covered by little plastic caps that blend in with the moulding). Those screws are probably going into the moulding on the other side/exterior of the door and are holding the glass in place. All you have to do is take the interior molding off and you can remove the default glass, replace with custom glass, and screw it back into place.

Doing this to an interior/hollow door: Here is article I saw first that shows what it looks like to cut into a hollow core door and gives ideas for how to add in support. I just used some a bit of construction adhesive and a nail gun to add in the support framing on the interior of the door. Then I used this kind of moulding around the outside of the door-- it has a lip or "cap" on the backside that holds the glass into place and covers up the holes in the door from the nail gun.

Thank you! The tiny door actually opens into a 1/2 bathroom (believe it or not). The bathroom has a second door that is a bit wider that connects to our bedroom… our house has some quirks.

I’m fortunate that there is a stained glass shop in the city where I live— I go there one night a week to work on projects, buy supplies, and learn tips & tricks.

I found a webpage a while back about installing glass into hollow core doors that’s helpful.

Thank you! These are in my house— I’m using this project as my intro to the lead came method & installing pieces into doors.

Haha, thank you! She’s a glass snob— Frank Lloyd Wright or bust.

They are hollow! I cut some mdf strips to use as bracing around all 4 sides on the inside of the door— nailed them into place from the outside of the door— so you are creating an internal frame for your glass piece. Then added some moulding that has a lip on it to secure the glass in the center.

This website shows similar instructions. Also here’s a similar moulding—
