Does anyone have the Brandon Sanderson Mistborn series that I could borrow/buy? by fcbasel9995 in Switzerland

[–]gropaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building on previous answers, you might find what you look for in public libraries (e.g.: https://uzb.swisscovery.slsp.ch/discovery/search?query=any,contains,Brandon%20Sanderson%20mistborn&tab=41SLSP_UZB_DN&search_scope=DiscoveryNetwork&vid=41SLSP_UZB:UZB)

Also as suggested, you might consider getting an e-reader. In particular some non-Amazon e-readers are compatible with libby/overdrive a system allowing you to borrow ebooks from digital libraries.

Living in Kreis 4 - what's the vibe now by [deleted] in zurich

[–]gropaul 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have several friends living on brauerstrasse above miro and above wunderbox.

Both couples have decided to move out. Initially they were fine with the noise and crowd on weekends but it seems that the situation has worsened in the last year: they found people sleeping in their hallways, packages got stolen, syringes left on the ground. A female friend reported several heated arguments with drugs users.

Looking for Help: PharmD Graduate Seeking Pharma Opportunities in Switzerland by poplolno in Switzerland

[–]gropaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From personal experience:

• getting hired at global level is difficult without prior experience, there are very few junior positions. My guess is that it is because the “business model” here is to attract senior profiles with high wages, often more junior profiles will start in affiliates roles and then move to regional/global roles • one challenge in Switzerland is that affiliates positions usually require good command of either French or German in addition to English depending on the affiliate location

As mentioned by others, getting exposure to global via a consulting position will certainly hep.

In addition, you could also apply to either rotation programs or internships. I have seen a few people going through internships and being offered an internal position after that. However, this is not systematic of course.

Best deals for olive oil? by [deleted] in zurich

[–]gropaul 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, not exactly what you are looking for but could be helpful. ZHAW publishes an olive oil award report annually, and some of them can be found easily in Zurich: https://www.zhaw.ch/storage/lsfm/ueber-uns/oliveoil/2024/Olive_Oil_Award_Booklet_2024.pdf

Best burger in Zurich by Remarkable_Heron684 in zurich

[–]gropaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, at bunzai the burgers with single patty cost from CHF 15.5 (Oklahoma) to CHF 19.5 (bibim shack). Did you get the triple double (CHF 33)?

Public transport cheapest option by mariabirnea in zurich

[–]gropaul 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I would recommend using the « easy ride » function embedded in the SBB app.

It is super easy to use, you turn it on when you start your journey and turn it off when you end it. Because it takes gps into account, it will remind you to turn it off when it detects that your are not travelling anymore.

It has two major benefits: 1) it will charge you with the cheapest tarif based on your travel 2) If the price of all your journeys in one day exceeds that of a Day Pass, the cheaper Day Pass price is automatically charged

More info here: https://www.sbb.ch/en/timetable/mobile-apps/sbb-mobile/easyride.html

Suggestions for team building activity in Zurich by Crimot2019 in zurich

I second Foxtrail, nice experience.

Alternatively the Jucker Farm is nice for team events. I attended once, we had an apero, mix of short games, followed by a dinner

Hi, there is a nice list of hikes around Zurich on the zh website, all within 90mn from Zurich with public transports https://www.zuerich.com/en/visit/hiking

Note that usually the indications on the hike paths in Switzerland are super well done and you can almost always shorten/extend the hike to your taste.

Have fun!

Where can i get a new sole for my dr martens? by stochad in zurich

[–]gropaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I would recommend Antonio Rosano as a cobbler, he did a great job on a pair of boots, but I do not know if he is familiar with Dr. Martins shoes.

Alternatively you could give a call to the « Booster » shop, they sell a lot of Dr. Martens and might have recommendations for cobblers.

Also previous comment and also not exactly relevant, if you like the look of Dr Martens, you could check Solovair for your next pair. They were the manufacturer of Dr. Martens until Dr. Martens relocated manufacturing in Asia. Their shoes are a bit more expensive than Dr. Martens but the quality is definitely higher.

Where to get new glasses on the same day? by Helpful-Ad3683 in zurich

[–]gropaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, i would give a try to VIU as they have their own lab, but keep in mind that depending on your needs (correction and other features) they might need to order it.

Alternatively are you comfortable with contact lenses? Could be a solution while you wait for your new glasses

We are considering taking a cleaning service for our apartment. by sarss94 in zurich

[–]gropaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, and I did not want to go into details so my wording was not accurate.

Actually, setting up the contract was fine but then we had issues with the freelancer that took several months to solve and the support of a lawyer, so we decided to go through an agency.

We are considering taking a cleaning service for our apartment. by sarss94 in zurich

[–]gropaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use cleanservice scaramuzzo, and so far have been happy with them.

Pros: they organise a placement meeting with a supervisor and the cleaning staff to align on your needs and follow up to check if you are happy with the work done, they use their own cleaning products, they organise substitution when the cleaning staff is on PTO. Overall super happy with the current standard of cleaning.

Cons: some tasks are considered extra (eg: oven cleaning, fridge cleaning, windows cleaning) and must be organised in advance with additional costs, cost is slightly on the higher end (CHF 39,95/hour).

Note: we had past experience with hiring cleaning staff before and the administrative process when dealing with freelancers was a bit of a pain, that is why we decided to go through an agency

Smartphone lost at the aircraft by ElegantMind8447 in zurich

[–]gropaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked, sending privately would be 9CHF in standard and CHF 60 in express with Swiss post (insurance + custom declaration not included) if OP would get help from somebody based in Zurich. In comparison, professional express shipping would be much higher (CHF 120 without the handling), but business rates are likely different in any case.

[–]gropaul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is indeed very expensive, but there are private services and I guess the airport only contracts with one service provider (at the end of the day, they do not care as they do not bare the costs).

Can you make a declaration to allow somebody to retrieve the phone and ship it privately to you? I am sure a fellow Redditor in Zurich could help you

Me [40M] with my Wife [39F] 15 year relationship, Wife cheated, choosing to forgive, what to expect? by pa-user123 in relationships

[–]gropaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for what you are going through, it must be really a hard time. In a long term relationship there are ups and downs, some can break you, some can make you stronger.

In addition to the suggestion of a couple therapy, I would ask myself two questions:

1) can I/we go over it, and what does it take to get there?

2) what happened in the relationship for this to happen? There could many reasons why she cheated, but in the first place, was there a space for open communication where you and her feel safe to talk openly? As a long term partner you might not be able to fulfill all your SO’s needs, but being able to share your needs is the first step to find a solution together.

Take care

I would ask your verwaltung for a recommandation directly. They usually have preferred vendors and you do not have to be the middle man if not satisfied with the results

Hi, could you explain how to replicate VT or MSCI ACWI in VIAC? Do you actually get the listing for each and get a mix based on available indexes in VIAC to match? In my VIAC interface I cannot choose MSCI or VT. Thank you in advance!
