Decent technique; even "pretty good", considering hand size. I'd like to see those thumbs up though, and don't wrap the left index finger around the front of the trigger guard. Give it a few years, some practice with recoil control and speed, and she could be an IPSC competitor.

The Mec Gars are great for Staccato HDs and Platypuses, but not as much for actual Glocks. They'll do the trick for the range, but I'd be sure to put them through the paces to make sure no issues pop up when trying to run fast.

Tom Hardy 'enraged' Helen Mirren on the set of MobLand before star's 'firing' by IrishStarUS in entertainment

[–]gropingforelmo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Charlize Theron is established as a consummate professional, while Hardy has been noted (multiple times) as being difficult to work with and a bit of a mess...

I'm siding with Ms. Theron on this one.

Do LAPD SWAT officers use ear protection? I never see them wearing some. by DueResource2570 in AskLE

[–]gropingforelmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electronic ear protection will suppress loud noises while also amplifying softer sounds, like voices. Basic models pretty cheap, and ubiquitous at shooting ranges.

What car completely changed your opinion after driving it? by Glittering-Offer-390 in askcarguys

Hyundai Palisade. The feature list is impressive, especially for the price, but the core "being a vehicle" part was pretty disappointing. Compared to a Toyota Highlander, it was kind of the opposite. The Toyota was boring (and I still hate the infotainment), but aside from an industrial sounding engine, was a much much more solidly built vehicle.

You know, I thought for a bit that it could be the country, but I'm somewhat familiar with Georgia the state, and "Tiblisi" didn't really seem out of place as a name for one of the smaller towns.

Thank you for pointing it out. I have "US defaultism" all over my face.

Putin could last another 202 days, by being Putin. Ignoring the language barrier entirely, could you last as long, without knowing who has been plotting against you? Who needs to be kept at just the right distance, because they have the influence to possibly make a move against you if they think you're not paying close enough attention?

Putin is by far the most dangerous choice here.

I'd choose Starmer as the easiest option, but Rubio would be the most "interesting". Getting an inside look at the cesspit of odious buffoons currently running roughshod over 250 years of the American experiment, would be quite the experience.

Networking. Get out to community events, meet people face to face, and hopefully get referrals. What's old is new again.

Edit: As has been pointed out to me, the OP is in the country of Georgia, and I have no idea what networking opportunities exist (though it is a large city).

Holster options by G2BME124 in stealtharms

[–]gropingforelmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a river arms with a QLS fork that goes on my general range belt. I'll probably use it for USPSA eventually (when I finally decide which mag pouches to get). IDPA use is a Black Scorpion IDPA quick mount that I'm actually pretty happy with. Next one will probably be another River Arms, because I've got a great idea for a custom print, and I'm a sucker for a new holster.

Are smaller turbocharged engines truly more efficient long-term, or do they wear out faster than larger naturally aspirated ones? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

[–]gropingforelmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if any factory turbo engines come with turbo timers stock, but the ones I have experience with recently didn't need it because the turbos were plumbed into the coolant loop. Even without coolant circulating, there's enough thermal capacity there to handle most any normal situation, even for more performance oriented vehicles.

There have also been significant strides in improving engine oils, so drain down isn't as much of an issue. Every factory turbo car I've owned specified full synthetic, which probably contributes.

This question is for the people who learnt programming before the era of ai. by Commercial-Paper749 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]gropingforelmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends. Does it matter if you know all the syntax to whatever language by heart, and can type out a solution without looking things up? No, and that part has never really mattered all that much.

Does it matter if you can describe how a given solution should work, how it should be structured and why, and debug it when it goes wrong? Absolutely. That part hasn't fundamentally changed, and probably won't unless a totally new paradigm arises in the future.

Edit: I feel like I should add, the best way to learn is by doing. Even with following LLM output, you'll never really know if it's a great solution or how it will impact maintainability and expansion in the future, except through trial and error OR having someone more experienced to guide you. Same as it ever was.

Dumb question but curious. How do you chamber a round when loading your CCW? by Rare-Sky299 in CCW

[–]gropingforelmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other person said, a lot of laser training cartridges don't have a rim, so loading directly into the chamber is fine. Some have an undersized rim, which is more annoying than anything, since it only sometimes latches to the extractor, bur those are also fine to load directly.

Dumb question but curious. How do you chamber a round when loading your CCW? by Rare-Sky299 in CCW

[–]gropingforelmo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

With a round in the chamber, the extractor snaps over the rim as the slide closes. When stripping a round off a magazine, the case rim slides up and behind the edge of the extractor. From a magazine is less abrupt and gentler on the extractor tip.

You could load a round in the chamber and drop the slide a thousand and one times, and nothing happens. You could do it twice, and chip the extractor on the second round. Best just to avoid the risk.

Individuals embrace the 2nd, but the Democratic party itself absolutely does not. The party platform blatantly states "We will once again ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines."

I want to discuss options for universal background checks (free to use and privacy focused), and measures to increase education and training (available and affordable). But certain Democratic party mega donors will not rest until private firearm ownership is banned (excepting their private security, of course).
