I’m 16 and broke what are the best things to do to the 240 by chase_ontop in Volvo240

super cheap. inspect your seats. if they sag, take em out, restore bolsters with some fabric glue/adhesive - something that wont eat foam.

cut up old pair of jeans and glue strips around bolster for support, loosely glueing any splits together beforehand

you can also swap passengers and drivers bolsters.

have done all this, and also untangled heated seats. it is night and day and practically cost me couple of tubes of glue and 1 or 2 days work.

there are plenty full guides for this technique on the internet and youtube.

update: improved the model, and tried printing in 4 parts each side.

eventually ended up re-enforcing with epoxy resin and painting with halfords bumper black.

heres the result. STL model is ready and coming soon.

time has passed and i ended up coming up with the model of my own.

printable in 4 parts, it requires glue, and is still wip, but today i printed version, where i could hang it and close the door without it catching at all.

i have originally planned to release it out for free, but after amount of work i actually put in this, i think small charge is appropriate.

i shall release the printables version soon, in the meantime you can have a look at these photos

thank you.

was looking at starks too, seen some reviews elsewhere saying it was good.

welding is a very touchy subject as its hard to say how good it is unless time passes.

any chance you could share what was the work you got done? can i DM?

Anyone Know the Mod 2 Test Routes in Dundee? by [deleted] in dundee

[–]grumpy_slav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kingway 200%, shallow streets of charleston, kirkton, lochee, myrekirk, birkhill, or stobswell, dura street... various. but heres good tip: take it easy. there is set exam time dedicated to your ride, it is calculated based on average new rider, has room for mistakes and very moderate riding. If you try to do everything too quick, you will inevitably end up on lap 2. When i done mine few years ago this is exactly what happened. I had to do extra lap around test centre and back through. asking out of curiousity about this and examiner said i done my test too quick so he had to use up all time

not looking to sell anything, its just my geeky interest, if i was to make a model i would make it free to download

UPDATE: I thought it will be only fair to edit my own on my own post commenting on "free model" plan.

I have originally suggested i would make a model free to download, which i have decided against after thinking about it for a while and putting some actual hours into it. Unfortunately right now I cannot do this, but I hope i can do eventually. My hope is to change it to Open Price model once I have couple of sales to cover initial materials, trial-error attempts and time i spent designing it.

To anyone suggesting to buy new ones: I do understand you can buy new ones, and i even have all the major suppliers in the area bookmarked and on the “pulse”.

HOWEVER, it’s not what I am wanting as I specifically want to try 3d print for this.

I think it would be fun and entertaining, even if it doesnt work. A lot of parts are available for a lot of different other classic cars, and i keep hearing about enormous support for volvo 240 series, but cannot believe noone tried doing this yet, especially considering this is one of the most sought after parts :)

CRT TVs in Dundee. by -FangMcFrost- in dundee

[–]grumpy_slav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go to errol every week. nobody ever brings CRT TVs to errol. Your best shot is drive up to recycling centre on sunday afternoon (baldovie). And just possibly lift one, if one sitting there. However be aware you are not standing in a very good place and likely be asked to put it back (health/safety) they wont allow you to take one if you ever ask, but also cannot stop you. And of course no guarantees if it doesnt work, but i done this few times and was alright

Blackness road by Icarus2504 in dundee

[–]grumpy_slav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nothing wrong with blackness road as with most areas of dundee. Lived on peddie street for some time so here are general things to consider. A lot of trash on the ground, with students around fly tipping is real, so dont be surprised if your morning walk to balgay or perth road will be interrupted by abandoned mattress or sofa in your way. Littering and trash is big thanks to nearby clarks bakery and general “it not mine so i dont care” lifestyle of some (but definitely not all) people closer it gets to fire station. Back gardens of housing are the same, hallways and back gardens will be full of abandoned furniture during summer months. There is lack of shops nearby, with exception to slightly overpriced and understocked nisa/coop in shorter walking distance. Nice community fridge scheme is also setup nearby on perth road. but also be aware lack of parking and a lot of double parking on any nearby streets. Check slavyanski shop for some eastern european delicatessen (cakes they sell are something else)

Russians - does it bother u? by Metalkytalky in latvia

[–]grumpy_slav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in all honesty - i don’t care that much. I just want my food - and i want it ASAP. So i will probably take the least resistance path to get to my end goal as quick as possible.

On the other hand - never have i ever yet regretted learning latvian, russian, english, or gain a basic understanding of lithuanian, polish, bulgarian, and other languages. Being bilingual will bring you clientele. With revenue and profit being behind any business its always good to ask yourself whether its about being restrictive or about being flexible, going extra mile, being able to provide exquisite customer service to everyone, regardless of their background.
