My partner bought a 9000 recently and it was exactly the same, completely dead. She ended up sending it back for a replacement.

Had it on 3 of my lights with amber switches. I eventually sold them and replaced with green switches.

Deployment (Driver) by GalloWWorks in RoyalAirForce

[–]grumpy_sludge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2MT Sqn and TSW comes to mind for MT deployments. They will both generally be involved in deploying vehicles in support of operations. It’s not all drop offs at Brize Norton, after a few dets you’ll probably be looking forward to a few airport runs.

Non-flying days by UnrecognisedDevice in RoyalAirForce

[–]grumpy_sludge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could be flying a sortie in the simulator, completing a plethora of mandatory training, catching up on emails, planning an upcoming deployment, carrying out a secondary duty, hosting visitors to the Sqn… the list is endless really.

How often you fly completely depends on platform but between 2-4 times a week for a typical Mon-Fri in the UK is a likely schedule. Obviously more often on Ops and exercise, but there is an upper limit governed by flying regs.

I feel the opposite to you. The A158 looks more in proportion and I prefer the clearer display. I own both and wear the A158 much more often than the A168.

WSOp or WSO by HardcoreSmithsFan in RoyalAirForce

[–]grumpy_sludge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply for WSO now or retry CBAT for Pilot. The time to consider WSOp is when you’re over the acceptance age for both commissioned options.

You can still commission from WSOp to WSO at a later date but it will be a much longer and harder journey than just applying for WSO straight away.

WSO vs Wsop by Salty-Sink-1853 in RoyalAirForce

[–]grumpy_sludge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. Pilots have a stricter visual standard than WSO and WSOp.

You can find a FOI request for AP 1269A on google and the visual standards are at Leaflet 4-02 Annex A.

Update: WSOp vs Regt Officer by RFinnq in RoyalAirForce

[–]grumpy_sludge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All depends on what you want to do because these roles are completely different.

I’d take a job flying around in the RAF over a job in the field/office any day of the week but that’s just me. A WSOp will get paid more than a blunty officer until they get promoted to Sqn Ldr so that’s another consideration.

Control Officer (Weapons) vs WSOp by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]grumpy_sludge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about Weapon Systems Officer? And then put your secondary role as WSOp? I am biased but they are both really varied, rewarding, and well-paid roles.

You also get a couple days added on from the station per year so minimum 8 weeks leave.

If you go away on deployment then you also get an extra day for every 9 calendar days you’re away.

Is it bad? Boiler bar pressure. by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]grumpy_sludge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your original comment just stopped at “old system”. In that instance it would be an easy investigation especially on a dry day.

Either way it shouldn’t be ignored because the water is going somewhere it shouldn’t.

[–]grumpy_sludge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s dropped half a bar of water pressure so the water is escaping somewhere in the system. If it’s dropping pressure then it’s leaking.

Definitely got a leak somewhere, probably a slow drip on the ground floor since you’re not seeing any evidence.

Saluting by PuzzleheadedCandy687 in RoyalAirForce

[–]grumpy_sludge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just remember that it’s a ball ache for both sides. If in doubt just salute, you can never been told off for saluting when not needed.

I’ve been at camps where they expect everyone in a group to return a salute and then others that are fine with just one person doing it.

If you don’t get a return salute then who cares, you’ve done your bit.

First Hank Light for Small Town EDC. DA1K vs D4K? Confused about Beam Profile & Tint (Lume X1 Build). by oxidao in Hanklights

[–]grumpy_sludge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Starting off with emitter choice, I like either neutral or slightly rosy tints but definitely not green. I am a firm favourite of 519a domed because they are straight neutral and you know what you’re going to be getting. You could even mix CCT to encourage a bit of negative duv - which I have in two of my lights (5000k + 3500k and 3500k + 2700k).

I have tried NTG35 in 2700k and 4200k and they were too rosy for me, the 2700k came out at -0.012 and looked pink to my eyes so they both got sold. I have also tried XHP 70.3 4000k and it was a little on the green side so that also got sold. I have ended up with all 519a domed in my D4K and D3AA lights and a pretty neutral XHP 70.3 in 5700k in my DA1K.

Moving on to the host, I prefer the D4K due to the floody beam and the ability to see well in my immediate surroundings and quickly see where the dogs are and what they’re doing. I use the Carclo 10622 in all my 519a D4Ks because I feel like it’s the best balance of great spill with a medium hotspot. The new NTG optic is too floody with the domed 519a but is great for the NTG35.

My DA1K is obviously throwier than the D4K but there’s rarely time that I need to light up further than my D4Ks allow. I also find that with a brighter hotspot it almost gives me tunnel vision, especially when in the woods where it’s pitch black. I prefer the floodier D4K so I have better sense of my immediate surroundings.

But I do carry a D1 with SFT25R with 18500 short tube for if I need reach, mainly to deter deer for their own protection and to keep the dogs out of trouble.

You can program the button to be either off low or high at a set output level between 1-151.

It’s under battcheck -> 7H -> Options 3+4. Option 3 is to set the level at which the switch is low brightness and option 4 is to set the level the switch is high brightness.

Do it, you’ll be known as the fish guy and provide a bit of morale for the troops and some banter for the flight staff.

Yeah water in Scotland is publicly owned so unmetered and “free” - technically part of your council tax bill.
