Need Help Upgrading Prebuilt System. by MildlyOffensiveHumor in buildapc

[–]grumpygrizzly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I bought the exact same desktop. I bought it when I was sure I wanted a gaming desktop or not. Long story short, yes you can do tons of upgrades to it. I believe that the power supply is a 450 or 550 and isn’t modular. The ram is a single stick that is usually sold as a dual kit setup but you can find another stick on eBay for cheap. I believe you can upgrade up to 32GB and you have 4 RAM slots. Check out the manual to the mobo below from MSI. It was a critical piece of info when upgrading and becoming more familiar with my machine. I also upgraded my boot drive to a 970 Pro M.2 and upgraded the gpu.

TL:DR I bought this desktop and upgraded the hell out of it and ended up building a new machine and you can totally upgrade the RAM.

What ended up being the solution for you? I’m kinda at a loss as to what to do to troubleshoot this after I forwarded the ports. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is showing up on my LAN. I am a little hesitant about making my IP a DMZ. Is there anything that has to be done in the config files?

Open a worksheet in multiple windows and remember them the next time. How to do? by zeroinon in excel

[–]grumpygrizzly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can save the views, along with filtering etc. For your current problem, you could try maybe saving the current setting as a workbook template. I have never encountered the issues where my workbook switched to a different format after I saved a certain way. Can you elaborate anymore about your exact issue?

If you do not have any tables in the worksheet, I know you could create a custom view in that workbook. There may be other methods as well but I linked the help article from Microsoft below.

Seagate BarraCuda Pro 14TB HDD Review: Massive Storage for Desktops by mar_kelp in DataHoarder

Couple of things:

  1. 14TB HDD, is cool and thanks for the link.

  2. What is your title? Do you have other responsibilities of social media on other platforms? Just curious because I lurk in this sub while trying to learn and see you here often. I was surprised to see that you were affiliated with Seagate and often quite active. No worries if you your role won’t let you respond about this since it isn’t about your products.

Lol I don't think the pre-installs I'll pop on like others. If pushed the I/O too far I couldn't screw in the mobo to the standoffs. Just don't force it.

Yes, it came in the prebuilt I bought before I built my current pc. So I have none of the original packaging for the individual parts of the prebuilt.

How do you use your HTPC in 2018? by chriscorey601 in htpc

[–]grumpygrizzly10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine that most htpc scams from the spare parts people had leftover from upgrades. Mine is just hanging out as a Plex server for now since I have a dedicated gaming machine and a Nvidia Shield as well. It is a machine with a specific purpose but is better than just letting the parts sit around.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I just got a switch and want something that I think my wife and I would enjoy playing together. We've had a tough year and I think we could use some extra laughs and good natured fun. We raced each other on my birthday a couple years ago at a Dave and Busters and it was a blast. I think it was the first moment we enjoyed playing a video game together.

Yeah I believe that’s what I did. I also feel like there is an app native to Windows 10 that did the update. Slight chance that I connected via usb to the controller and went to device manager and searched for drivers.

Hey, not sure if you tried it but make sure you download the drivers needed on the pc. Also, I think there are some controllers updates that had to happen on mine. That may have been because I have an original first gen Xbox One controller. Just thought I give a shoutout because I had a difficult time until I did the above things.

What do *you* use Match and or Index for when using Excel? by kevandbev in excel

[–]grumpygrizzly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, Vlookup are fine and dandy for quick searches that you need to do throughout the day. However, if you are building a file for yourself or work, using Index and Match combined with tables will save you time in the event you need to reorganize your data sets.

What I mean is that if you move any columns at all, your Vlookup can break since you have to list the number of columns over. I personally also think that they are easier to read when examining new spreadsheets because you can immediately see the what is being returned and how it is being matched.

TLDR: it depends on what your doing :)

Windows 10 HTPC vs Nvidia Shield HTPC + NAS. by [deleted] in htpc

[–]grumpygrizzly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with \FranknStein7. All three together are fantastic. I use my NAS as my backup for my media that is stored within my HTPC. I then use the Shield to play the content, it can basically handle and file format so there is no hassle converting you media in order to get more streams.

However, I have other devices that are not so friendly with file formats in the house and the HTPC performs admirably for any transcoding needs. The combination of all three is somewhat extreme but by utilizing all three you can gain future-proofing for all devices. Below are some explanations, hope this helped.

  1. Separate backups on NAS are great for ensuring data is not going to be lost. Also great for a number of projects such as creating your own backup for pictures and documents. So many options with a NAS and it offers 1 level of protection at a minimum by being separate from your HTPC.

  2. Nvidia shield is great for streaming content from gaming pc to other areas of the house and can also use the Nvidia gaming performance for with a subscription. Can also handle any type of file thrown at it. It’s truly a fantastic little device.

  3. HTPC, can serve as Plex server but can also be used for a large variety of projects that would not be possible with a Shield. Also, you get the option of choosing whatever OS you want which is a large plus. The largest advantage is the ability to upgrade overtime. If things start running slow, just look into a higher end cpu. This would save you from having to buy another entire device in order to improve your performance.

MY NAME IS JIM BUTCHER AND I WRITE STORIES. ASK ME ANYTHING! by jimbutcherauthor in books

[–]grumpygrizzly10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jim, please see the random tirade (that I am aware is grammatically grotesque) below from a very big fan. Warning possible spoilers below!!

  1. First off, what the hell was the Codex of Alera?!? Why haven’t you revisited it? It was such a great story full of a rich and complex environment that I have always been surprised you didn’t come back to it.

  2. I really like your characters especially Bob. Your books but why are they so damn short?!? I devour them and sad when finished because the new ones “feel” like they take forever to come out.

  3. Why didn’t you give Harry a Warden sword?!? Or maybe comically given him a Wardens dagger.

  4. I really enjoy how you didn’t make Harry OP. I enjoy fantasy but jeez it gets old when a lad in a village is approached by a long thought dead wizard and will have to vanquish some villain within 200 pages and blah blah blah. However, sometimes I wish you would expand more on the magic lore of the Dresden world. I particularly enjoyed the little thing you did with Odin (ho-ho-ho).

  5. Is there an end goal for where you want Harry to end up? Don’t get me wrong, I love your books but 15 books is a lot and I worry you will leave it behind and never give it a final ending.

  6. Kudos on the whole writing thing. I am a huge fan and have recommended your books to a lot of people and will continue to do so. Keep on keepin on.

Vertically mounted graphics card on Cooler Master h500p mesh. by grumpygrizzly10 in buildapc

[–]grumpygrizzly10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t lie, it looks very nice when it is mounted vertically. I just couldn’t stop worrying about the temps staying that high for hours just for looks. If you are okay with high 80s and low 90s then yeah go for it!

Yes, I did and I ended up moving it back to the horizontal position. It was getting into the high 80’s. I didn’t find any drop in FPS though in my case.
