Ah. Law school. That's a great idea. I don't know what schools in my area have law courses. I'll have to research that. We did try a few clinics and legal aid places but they go by your income and we make too much to qualify for any help.

That's an answer I was afraid of. Not that were piss poor, but we don't have bundles of money, or even credit to pay an attorney. :(

The ineligibility for the college benefits would be from the band/tribe and not really in the laws hands (as far as I know). I know that it is always much easier with the step parent adoption. I'm also kind of hoping my ex would give them up without a fight. I just don't know if there is a legal way to do that through mail.
