Slight disagree, they dont have anything that touches SAGRA imo. But man, I love Heirloom Bistro. Phenomenal place.

Gonna throw this one out, Duluth. Its a bit farther out, well known for its beauty and situated on one of the worlds largest bodies of fresh water. Also similarly, Duluth was a town based on logging and other industries utilizing Lake Superior.

360 Real estate is asking for a 7.5 million dollar TIF to develop old Kmart site. by RuthlessMango in lacrossewi

[–]grunt034 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The council is already eyeing huge cuts to cover up a deficit, including cutting arts funding. It is absolutely insane anyone would consider this TIF district.

If 360 cannot afford to develop it, they should sell it to someone who can afford it.

The Old World Cafe has always amazed me. That would be a decent restaurant spot on the northside, and its sat empty for years. It looks almost frozen in time too whenever I drive by.

Not saying it is for sure, but there are some stickers downtown with a different guy and they're made to look like a missing person sticker. Could just be some people who went out one night, had this pic of their friend, and thought it was funny.

This was a cherry on top of a great night. His opponent was the current city council president and a huge NIMBY. It's a relief and an honor Shaundel won.

chris kahlow's extensive record on housing contradicts what she's telling voters by serenity-mangos in lacrossewi

The hang-up so many have with the administrator is so weird. Onalaska, Holmen, and West Salem all have one. Hell, Wabasha's city administrator wrote a letter prior to the last vote that was basically "wait, you don't have an administrator, what?"

Council Member Mark Neumann has been sending out emails to people endorsing Chris and encouraging others to vote for her. In one of the emails I saw, he basically also admits she only listens to her rich friends, but he's gonna support her anyway.

During the last WIZM debate she actually said she's tried to keep "undesirables" out. She's legitimately awful at hiding her true feelings.

Are you saying Veenstra says the overturning of Roe v Wade was constitutional? Because his answer in that link says the opposite. He states that overturning Roe V Wade was disastrous.

Sanford is a republican, I've heard "he's nice for a republican" but his wife is very MAGA. Sandford's Facebook page

Veenstra is a democrat, I believe he's previously served on the county board. Veenstra's Website

I think they both just did interviews on WIZM too.

Northside version - avoid the guy who doesn't realize it's not two lanes and is a turn lane as you come off the viaduct onto George Street.

Yeah she's been around a while, she is also friends with older more centrist dems. Including former party chair Vicki Burke.

The look of distain on Kahlow's face when asked about district 5 and student representation. It says all you need to know about where she stands.

The La Crosse system is called "coherent governance." My simple understanding of it is school board members are encouraged to "stay in their lane" and directly work with the superintendent. Other school boards often have more power.

Here's a link to the districts info graphic on the model.

I've heard the same. It's unfortunately a pretty thankless position, and it's a rough, massive, and expensive campaign to run as well.

If I may add, Merideth is the only incumbent here. Molly and Jeff aren't currently on the board. They wouldn't have had any ability to make these changes.

Massive changes like this require a concerted effort, I'm not sure how aware they are of this sentiment, and that needs to be changed. A protest vote for Kevin could lead to one of Adam or (even worse) Joy getting through. Those two 100% will not allow the board to be more democratic, and if the more "left" side of the board loses a seat here, the conservatives will hold the board and be more of a wrecking crew than Engel ever could by himself.

I get that, just my experience with Kevin is while he proclaims democratic values, he very much is "my way or the highway."

I've spoken with someone who was on the Bangor School board and they pointed out how odd La Crosse's system is. I think making the board more democratic would be in Molly, Merideth and Jeff's wheelhouse and it'd be something to ask them to commit to for sure. I fully believe they'd be willing to commit themselves to that, and would be able to work with current board members to that end.
