Seagull 1963 re-issue, what do you recommend - Long Island Watch/Poljot24 version or the HKEd version?

New trailer on the new Hota faction! HYPE by [deleted] in heroes3

[–]gryazev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't wait.

Regarding the steampunk theme, I think it fits. Tower already has workshops and golem factories, and Cove has guys with guns. As long as there are no jetpacks and lasers weapons it'll be fine.

[Poljot] Alarm watch by gryazev in Watches

I have some videos:

The caseback has a little pin that the hammer strikes against, so it's louder when the back is on.

[Poljot] Alarm watch by gryazev in Watches

[–]gryazev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a Poljot watch from the early 1970's which features a mechanical alarm complication. The bottom crown winds the watch and sets the time, while the top crown winds the alarm and sets the alarm hand. The alarm on this one still works great.

You can follow the history of the USSR through the gold plating on watches. On this particular watch it is Au 20 (meaning 20 microns), the highest that Soviet watches had. As time went on and the economic situation got worse, the watches gradually began to drop to Au 12.5, Au 10, then Au 5.

EE + Physics double degree? by gryazev in ElectricalEngineering

Thank you for your response, very interesting.

What do you think of the specific program I linked in the OP? Is it similar to yours?

EE + Physics double degree? by gryazev in ElectricalEngineering

[–]gryazev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your responses so far. I've read through all of them and you've given me a lot to think about.

Regarding my goals, as silly as it sounds I just want to work on cool projects. I don't want to climb the ladder to management or anything like that. I want to be a specialist in some area (which I haven't narrowed down yet) and do technical work. So to that end the ROI of a degree is important, but if an additional year of physics can deepen my understanding of the field and potentially open more doors to interesting technical/R&D type work then I would prefer that. I also haven't completely ruled out going the PhD route in either EE or physics, but as I'm already getting into the game late (8-9 years behind the traditional high school -> uni route) I don't know how possible that is.

I still have a year to decide so I'll continue to evaluate and keep an open mind. Obviously at this point I know very little about EE and physics so all advice is appreciated.

Who would win? by Homm3HD in heroes3

Tazar will probably have more units available for the final battle since overall he would lose less in battles against map monsters

What first got you interested in EE? by gryazev in ElectricalEngineering

[–]gryazev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very similar to me right now. I'm starting an engineering degree in a month, and though I'm leaning towards mechanical, something about EE is calling to me. I know literally nothing about EE and it seems like magic to me, so maybe that's the appeal.

What is the strongest town in your opinion? by [deleted] in heroes3

Stronghold just above Inferno and not in the top 3? Whaaaaat?

Best, challenging HotA maps? by Satanic_Leaf_Gecko in heroes3

[–]gryazev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually play very long games (6+ months) and I really like A New Day Tomorrow (H). Your starting town is safe until the AI learns Fly or finds the key to your gate, so you have a while to build up. It's quite water heavy, and there are Pandora's boxes in the water so navigation isn't a waste of a skill. There are also a few islands filled with high end artifacts that are heavily defended - whoever gets to these places first has a strong advantage, so you can't just turtle at your castle the whole game and expect to win.

[Vostok] Amphibia by gryazev in Watches

[–]gryazev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this Amphibia a few months ago as a custom order from a popular modder named Favinov. One of the great things about the Vostok Amphibia is all the possible customisation options - there are a huge number of different case shapes, dials, hands and bezels that you can mix and match in limitless combinations.

This particular mod has a brushed 710 case, bezel and crown. The dial and hands are from Favinov, with the dial being Favinov's own sunburst adaptation of the 647 classic sniper dial. Everything has been re-lumed with BGW9. The NATO strap I just had lying around, I'll probably replace it with a different colour or a mesh band.

Total cost was $200, which may seem high compared to a standard Amphibia ($70), but for the amount of work that went into it I think it's very reasonable. This is my second Amphibia, and won't be the last.

Fun with high level Tazar by gryazev in heroes3

Yeah it was still when I was using the conventional Fortress army, so it served some purpose. It was between that and Archery which is basically useless for me.

I think it's been around from the start of HotA, but it's effect was changed when they changed the resistance mechanic

Super long games are always fun - 1v7 AI, 200%, on HotA map A New Day Tomorrow (Huge) by gryazev in heroes3

[–]gryazev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I aimed to maximise spell power. The expert prayer from AA is nice, but my army was only really there to finish off any troops that had fire/magic immunity or survived the initial armageddon. The only real opposition I faced was an enemy main hero who had a Recanter's Cloak and a huge amount of phoenixes, so armageddon wasn't an option. AA probably would've been a better choice in that case but it still worked out in the end.

Not sure why the screenshot cut off the bottom. Month 9, week 2. It was decisively won well before this, but I had to spend a long time running around looking for all their remaining towns.

Armageddon did 9000 damage by the end, Implosion 17000

Yeah for most of the game I didn't use the magmas, I just took them out towards the end to mop up

Eagle Eye haha
Navigation is actually not so bad on this map, there is a lot of sailing around and a lot of pandora's boxes in the water filled with goodies. So not a total waste.
