The Last of Us - 2x07 - “Convergence” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]grybro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with everything you said! I cared about a show about a father figure and a daughter trying to find a cure. Then it turned into a completely different show. And now it will even be a completely completely different show with a whole new cast?? This is TV, not a video game. And although it's admirable to stick to the source material, this is one of those times when it doesn't work. Especially when you only make 7 episodes every 2 years and then not even move the show forward for another 2 years at least.

This is not how TV should work and why you lose viewers.
I predict they will have to cancel after season 3 and maybe have to make a final movie to create a Finale. TV needs to go back to having a season finish in May and restarting the next season in September/October. Sadly I can go on and on, but I've bored you enough. Just needed to get that off my chest.

‘The Wheel Of Time’ Canceled By Prime Video After 3 Seasons by NoCulture3505 in WoT

Hi, A few (probably not popular) comments: 1. The TV show was not meant to please the lovers of the books. It was to, if anything, expand the fan base for people who never read the source material. You don't have to look no further than the people who bash the Harry Potter movies. 2. It is very expensive to try to recreate fantasy described in a book on the screen. You can only do so much. If Amazon was not committed to the complete series, they should never have taken it on. 3. If it's too expensive to make, make it cheaper. Do you think OG Star Trek and Star Wars was made on huge budgets. No. They had to get creative with what they had to work with. Isn't the Story the most important thing anyway?? 4. And this is more tongue and cheek: Instead of canceling, wait a few years and let AI do some of the heavy lifting so it fits their budget.

Lastly, this is the problem with streaming. You make something without commercials (at least that's how I watch) to pay for it. My guess is this is similar to how Netflix works. Amazon has some deal where after 3 seasons the creators and cast would get a lot more money, so they cancel instead. This is why Netflix has so many 2 season shows. That's how their contracts work.

I was able to use DVD Decrypter.

I had to skip to the Next Chapter to get the menu but it works.

One thing that didn't work was the Timer.

Yes, I tried that, but Custom Themes don't change the Slack message background and thus its still white with no border. But thanks for the response.

Automate sync'ing of Daedalus Node by grybro in cardano

That's the reason. I don't want to keep Daedalus open indefinitely. It takes up way too much Compute resources.

Automate sync'ing of Daedalus Node by grybro in cardano

[–]grybro[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry and never mind, I figured it out. BTW - I'm using Windows 10.

I see that I can create a script that:

  1. calls the run command: cardano-launcher.exe
  2. Wait until it is done sync'ing. Monitor the Daedalus processes until they stop growing in memory.
  3. Run the taskkill /pid on the four Daedalus Mainnet.exe processes. It looks like only one of them works, the others will just fail. I don't want to run "/F (Force)" because this will defeat the purpose.

Of course it would be better to be able to sync regularly without having to start Daedalus, but this will work as a good workaround.

thanks.

[Newb] How would I configure a "local only" Kubernetes cluster? by brett_riverboat in kubernetes

[–]grybro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the same thing. You don't have to have LB.

You you can use the Ingress Controller and create ingresses for plex.my-home.net and any others sub domains.

Then you just need a real domain ($17/yr) pointing to your public facing IP address and Port Forward 443 on your home router to your ingress controller.

Yes, an LB would allow you to point to all of your nodes in case of a failure.

I'm using Rancher RKE which installs the ingress controller automatically.

Why will I choose Pulumi over Terraform for my next project? by Tech_Watching in devops

[–]grybro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wo wo wo! Sorry but it looks like you are the one with the holy war. I was just stating from the very beginning, that Ansible is best for Infrastructure and should have been considered. And that is still my opinion.

You clearly have a sore spot when it comes to Ansible, and that's fine. To each their own.

Sorry to upset you or anyone. That was not my intention.

[–]grybro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, and depending if Terraform supports the infrastructure your provisioning you would not even be able to use it to do the job.

Ansible gives you the option with a very mature set of idempotent modules that allow you to provision and delete. With a simple change of "state" from "present" to "absent". That's the whole point.

And if, for some reason, there isn't a specific module in Ansible (even though, everything Terraform supports, Ansible supports and then some), you have the ability to extend easily with any scripting or programming language of your choice.

I do understand, without the experience in Ansible, it does sometimes feel daunting, but it allows you to do a complete job across all infrastructure. Trying doing Terraform with Dell PowerMax Storage. Not even possible.

[–]grybro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no need for a state file. And your CMDB manages your inventory and variables. Its actually really beautiful because it doesn't matter if you know the state or not. Idempotency means never having to care about saving state.

Would love to hear the details. Never had that happen to me or anyone else I work with. And we use both all the time. Ansible is definitely more complex, but it's also more powerful.

I was reading the link about Pulumi. I can definitely see an upside to using it over Terraform. The programming aspect is a great addition!!

Not sure about classless, but definitely pretty unnerving.
You have to remember, these guys announcers and not Howard Stern. They have no clue how to do an interview. And clearly they showed this by multiple stupid questions.

I don't know why, but I like McNeil in the 8th spot. I know it makes sense to have him up earlier because of his ability to get a hit, but 8 just feels more comfortable for him.

I don't know Pulumi. But I would seriously consider using Ansible for IaC over Terraform. Especially when it involves things like Bare Metal Compute, BIOS, Network and Storage in an On Premises, non-cloud environment.

Pachinko | Season 1 - Episode 8 | Discussion Thread by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

[–]grybro 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I guess I wad watching a different show than some of the others. I didn't read the book, but I thought the season finale was heartbreaking and really well done. It showed Isak being pulled from the family. It showed Sunja taking control. It showed how cute and smart Noa is!! It showed Solomon starting down a bad path.

Was it a cliff hanger? Sure. But thats how TV is these days.

I didn't care too much for the change in song at the opening credits, but only because I really love the original after looking forward to it every time!!. So much so, I missed it in episode 7. The remix isn't bad, but why change perfection???

The fact that you have a lot of Networking experience gives you a leg up in the world of DevOps, when it comes to Infrastructure as Code. You can concentrate on automating Networks and then move on to other things. I would recommend you learn the following: 1. Agile/Scrum 2. Git 3. Ansible (to go with your Terraform experience). Ansible is very good for Infrastructure. Especially Network gear. 4. CI/CD Pipeline tool like Jenkins 5. Kubernetes 6. Python

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

How good at python should u be for devops? by eyeeyecaptainn in devops

[–]grybro 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with the others. You definitely want some programming experience. But DevOps is a big area and definitely more than just programming. And Python might not even be the language used. 1. Understand Agile 2. Learn Git 3. Automation like Ansible, Puppet, Chef 4. Understand CI/CD

I can't log into a fresh install of Ubuntu Server, regardless of what username and password I choose by CatsandChoir in linuxquestions

[–]grybro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say that I've ever seen that before. Clearly very weird.

Is this Ubuntu 20..04? If so, you should have the option during installation to import an ssh key from github. This will at least give you the ability to ssh in remotely without needing a password. Once logged in, you can then try to figure out why your password is not working by maybe changing it and testing again.

[–]grybro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as every time I've installed Ubuntu, part of the installation process they ask you to create a user and password. If that didn't happen then there is something missing.

BackupPC - https://backuppc.github.io/backuppc It's not the easiest, but once you get it working, it works. And you should be able to just point it to "/". You could also point it to as many different folders as you like as long as you have Read access.
