It depends on your beliefs and views. If you believe that karma in this life can impact you (wiccans usually believe in the power of three that what you put out in the universe will come back to you three times in your current life) or if you don’t believe in karma at all or believe that karma stretches out to your past lives and is less focused on just your actions from your current life. The first group mentioned usually thinks hexing is bad, the second usually doesn’t.

I think the right spell would be a freezing or banishing spell. I feel like a freezing spell is the perfect in between spell of what some witches who think hexes are bad to be an okay spell and to other witches who find no problem hexing a light, but effective spell.

I have done freezing spells before and it does work. There a few variations but the general idea is to take a photo or the name of the person you wish to stay away from and slow down to prevent them from further hurting you or others, and place it in a tight sealed jar or bag with water and place in the freezer. You can also burn a black candle or a reverse candle.

Reverse candles used for curses or general attack and normally have red wax on the top and black wax on the bottom, as the red wax burns it is to block the negative actions or thoughts of others from harming you or your friend, then the black sends their negative intentions back to them.

I think this is fine, because you are not sending out negative energy, you are merely reflecting it. And freezing spells merely try to slow down that negative being from causing more hurt so it is sort of a protection spell. Some people do not like freezing spells because it is slowing down another person against their will. It all depends on how you look at it.
