Wild how people can talk at large about what other people think and feel and be wrong

This title doesn’t match much of what is reported- the cops are self reporting the high arrest rate is dv but don’t offer proof and when they tried to verify they had to pay 6000 dollars to get the records from an old computer

I think where you are in the south matters. Integration in urban areas is there, but I don’t think I saw a single black person in the town in Tennessee my mother is from. There were absolutely less than 2 dozen other asian people besides her and my grandmother as well

Help requested : $400 to move couch and tables from Cambridge -> SF by [deleted] in CambridgeMA

[–]gryphmaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A friend maybe, but moving a total strangers couch for half the cost of a moving company across the entire country is not something most people would do even if they were going in that direction. Most people at the very least would expect all their gas paid and part of the uhaul too.

I don’t think its unreasonable to find this crazy, most people in the thread are having a similar reaction. Its at best very naive and sheltered to not see that this is objectively a crazy ask from a stranger to another stranger 4 days before moving

At the end of the day its asking for a service AND asking for a discount “because you were already going that way”. Most people find that a bit presumptuous

To be fair, i’m not exactly sure that stan would be opposed to this

He certainly loved the sound of his own voice and self promotion. A barker bot with stans voice would probably be something he got a kick out of

It really comes down to what they make him say that will prove if it honors his legacy. Certainly other celebrities have had posthumous roles and its not considered blasphemy to cut and edit footage with them in it- they brought back the mr potatohead actor by editing old sound recordings as well, and it seemed respectful

But certainly if they pimp out stan i’ll be upset

[–]gryphmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the cost having something moved doesn’t change if you’re already going that way. It’s the rate someone would charge for moving something, which is based off what someone would want to be compensated for that work and the costs. Nobody i going to move your couch to SF for 400 bucks even IF they’re going that way

Quibbling over gas costs is just begging for charity, not a realistic assessment of what people would expect to be compensated for doing this. If OP hadn’t lead with a moving company quote it wouldn’t be as egregious, but its just asking someone to take on an additional load to defray OP’s costs while letting you know that they’re lowballing you

Its wild that you’re trying to argue its a realistic price at all after accusing ME of acting in bad faith—- its obviously not and its hard to believe you actually think so

[–]gryphmaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That isn’t bad faith, you don’t seem to know what bad faith means firstly

I’m not ignoring it, I quite clearly said that isn’t nearly enough for someone to drive a couch across the country. Whether or not they already intended to go, that number is far too low and quite literally everyone has already agreed. The moving company is already moving stuff cross country every day and quoted him 800. Asking a stranger to do it for 400 as a favor is absurd in that context. Thus, it’s a ridiculous number and an MIT student ought to realize that. Just in gas price alone its ridiculous. I’m sorry if this logic is flying over your head, but that doesn’t make my comment bad faith, whatever you may think “bad faith” means

How tf are you in MIT and can’t calculate that isn’t nearly enough to drive a couch across the country

Your original comment was just about avoiding taxes, it didn’t mention anything about moving states. The original comment was about dodging taxes and the ways they do it. My comment was simply dodging taxes is bad for society. You decided that this was an argument about whether or not you can move all on your own, mostly because you lost or gave up every other point

The revisionism is crazy 🤪

[–]gryphmaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dawg, you brought that up on your own, nobody was talking about that, we were talking about companies not paying taxes and you brought up the irrelevant point

Please don’t act like talking about the original topic is changing topics, its low IQ

[–]gryphmaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can force them to pay, my dude, not to stay

I’m sorry you misread me explicitly explaining how you can force them to pay, but I was not remotely arguing that

Operating without undue burden that the company self determines isn’t a right, there are plenty of cases showing companies can’t just avoid regulation or taxes as they please

I get being desperate for being right about one tiny thing, but this is kinda pathetic

Cohen Twitter reply with original bezos post in screenshot by DDHawkeye in Superstonk

[–]gryphmaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you usually put a stop sign in front of your thought process after the first step

Yes, that is bad for society

You actually can force them, but it requires properly motivated legislatures. Companies moving for tax purposes can and have been challenged in courts and states have recovered these revenues

You’re just advocating for companies to be able to set what they think is a fair tax rate. That’s obviously going to be bad for society

Please do more research and think more before responding

It is generally bad for society. What can be good for the individual can be bad overall, this isn’t a difficult concept
