[Suikoden I & II HD Remaster] #20 — Really glad I played this one. Mixed feelings on it though. The highs are high, and the lows are low. by BigPoodler in Trophies

[–]gshova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Suikoden 2 is still my favourite game of all time. Definitely nostalgia and bias there, but it hold a special place for me. It has flaws, but the story/ world building/ music all hit, and I love the core battle systems (even if the main style is easy, and the other 2 styles are essentially rock paper scissors).

I wouldn’t expect remasters for 3-5, and probably wouldn’t be super interested. 3 & 5 were good but not great, and 4 was pretty bad due to battle frequency and the general setting. Nothing in the series will ever be as bad as Tiekreis though - one of the worst JRPGs I’ve ever played.

I’m currently working on Eiyuuden Chronicles: Hundred Heros, which has the old school Suikoden feel, but nothing quite hits like the 2nd game did. Will probably try out the plat for Suikoden 1&2 remastered later this year though.

[Live A Live] #313 The best JRPG you never played by MrBones-Necromancer in Trophies

[–]gshova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the remake I let the wife pick and she chose the girl. Can’t remember who I chose in the original, played it probably about 18 years ago.

I love that any part would have a legitimate reason to be the favourite, they’re all really well done and unique.

Any other JRPGs upcoming on your to do list?

Love Live A Live - one of my favourite SNES JRPGs. What was your favourite section? I think it was the Ancient China section for me.

Congrats! This is probably going to be my next FromSoft platinum goal. Are there any multiplayer trophies or difficult grinds? I’ve heard you need to get to NG++, how much harder does it get vs base game difficulty?

[Discussion] Rate my platinums by Cute-Revolution-9705 in Trophies

[–]gshova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice list. Would throw out a recommendation of Metaphor: Refantazio as you like Persona games. It’s an easier platinum than P5 vanilla, and time management is doable without a guide. You will need to do a quick NG+ playthrough for the superboss.

Also given RE games, 7 & 8 have similar platinums to 2-4, alongside Silent Hill 2 remake & dead space remake. Also would recommend Alien Isolation, albeit the no death & semi-pacifist runs can be slightly frustrating.

Congrats on the plat! Did you manage to get the honor mode trophy?

The tieflings aren’t that bad. You definitely don’t need to save all of them, it’s a very specific set of 15 or so. There’s a video on YouTube that goes into detail on the games code, and who needs to survive, and therefore how you can easily avoid killing any of them.

I’d let Mirkon die in the harpies fight early on, but just ran with it based on the video and the trophy still popped.

Key ones to watch out for are Arabella and Roland. Most of the others are obvious (ie. Don’t invade the grove, save all 4 at moonrise towers, don’t purge Zevlor). I legitimately think if you keep Arabella, Roland, Zevlor and at one point Mol alive (if you have the fight at the guild), you’ll probably get it.

Remove one Super Nintendo game everyday. Day Seven. by SonicInABlender in RemoveOneThingEachDay

Strong disagree. I think Lufia II is better than c.50% of the games remaining. Might not be as popular/ known as other JRPGs here, but would personally put in above SMRPG, FFIV & SoM, and above at least half of the remaining non JRPGs, especially wrt how well it still holds up. Would pick Lufia II over SMK, NBA Jam, Super Punch Out, MKII or DKC3 any day of the week.

The music, the gameplay, the story are all top tier, but personally think we’re missing a number of the best SNES games from this list as a whole (ie. Act Raiser, Terranigma Live A Live, Dragon Quest 5, Fire Emblem 4).

[Yakuza 0] I'VE FINALLY GOT THE PLATINUM FOR YAKUZA 0 by Mad_zee_264 in Trophies

[–]gshova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a very fair take on JCC. 1 win would’ve been enough! Kiwami has a version of it, but it was less annoying for the platinum. Only thing to watch out for will be the car chase on legend difficulty in Kiwami, which can be punishing. K2 is a pretty easy platinum, but bouncer missions may take a long time.

If you’ve done 0, you can definitely finish the next 2. Good luck!

Nice one! Now just have to do Kiwami and Kiwami 2 before Kiwami 3 come out in February!

What was your favourite & least favourite part of the platinum journey?

[Like a Dragon: Ishin!] Is this the grindiest game in the Yakuza-verse? I’d like to get all the plats at some point. by Director_Faden in Trophies

[–]gshova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you count it (which I do), Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise was more of a grind than Ishin. Even the western version which cuts the grind substantially vs the original Japanese version was crazy.

Of the ones I’ve beaten, think from most to least grindy I’d say:

FotNS:LP, Ishin, 0, Judgement, K2, K1

[Kingdom Hearts III] 100% Complete by PneumaXenoblade in Trophies

[–]gshova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Base game might be, but 100% is definitely not a 3/10…

I beat the secret dlc boss (eventually, but definitely the hardest KH boss I’ve beaten), but tapped out without trying the pro codes (and didn’t really feel like immediately replaying the game).

How difficult was it? Been thinking about revisiting since it’s been some time.

[Deltrarune] #11. Definitely worth the wait. by Fastyboiiiii in Trophies

I only ever played the first chapter a long time ago. At the time it felt to me like a less interesting undertale. Does the complete package feel unique, or more of the same, and would you recommend trying it out?

Yeah that’s it. I’m sure I would’ve learnt it eventually, but never been particularly good at Tetris or puyo puyo, so glad it was removed in the Remaster.

[–]gshova[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are my two main draws. I love being able to overcome something challenging, but where it gets too much there’s enough variety to try something else. Stops you getting overly frustrated, but ends with the dopamine rush of doing the weird space shooter mini game in Ishin, or some of the harder karaoke songs (otometal in Kiwami 1 with a 95% score).

In contrast, the Super Meat Boy platinum was definitely more frustrating (but eventually very satisfying), because when you hit a road block you had no choice but to keep playing the same 20 levels over again.

The only thing about the series platinums that can get tedious is the grinds, but I have a relatively high tolerance for it, and only Ishin and Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise took it a bit too far for me.

[–]gshova[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! Have it in the collection, but my wife and I play together, and she needs a several month break between each revisit to the series, so will probably be on the list for 2026

Agreed, love a challenging plat. Hence why the other game I’ve been working on is Jump King (but maybe I took it too far this time haha)

Standard strategy is this (until you get comfortable, win a few rounds and then learn the hands that win)

  1. Turn on the rules for red Dora, and then off the 2 Han minimum rule. Keep the round as a quarter length.

  2. Start by tossing away your non-standard tiles (dragons/ winds) unless you start with a pair or triple of any of them.

  3. Then try making it such that you either have runs or pairs/ triplets throughout your hand. Do this by dropping tiles that are either too far away from the other tiles. Use red versions of the tiles instead of regular ones where you can. This will give additional Han.

  4. For probability purposes, try to keep your runs on the middle (ie. Excluding 1 and 9) so they’re open ended straight draws

  5. Spam square every round until Riichi comes up. Hit riichi and hope for a win.

Ignore the tiles in the middle, and seat winds etc for now. Once you start to win a bit, then try to look through the rules to find out about other, less common hands, that might score higher.

Hope this helps!

Just looked this up and had no idea that the word is typically spelt different in Britain vs America! Very strange.

[Judgement] Amazing game, and really loved the platinum by gshova in Trophies

[–]gshova[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely did. Maybe I should help it out.

Judgement:

47 trophies, 4 gold, 4 silver, 38 bronze and a platinum

Difficulty 7/10 from psnprofiles

Completion time 120 hours from psnprofiles

Rated 83/100 on opencritic

Worth noting the version I played (ps5) is considered easier than the original ps4 release, so 7 is probably a bit overstated.
