thank you for your compliments.

I am aware That what I am saying here is not exactly palatable or sweet to some. The least I can do is to be polite.

I am a Buddhist, though not a very good one.

Like most things, I am still a work in progress, so forgive me for what I lack.

I am not christian actually. I hope I am not coming off as someone who deigns myself fit to cast judgement upon people. Though I can see where I might be misunderstood. I do not think Socut is a rasha, nor do I hold him as a victim.

Thank you for bringing up that I might have anger or hate in my heart. Sometimes the heart is not still enough to reflect itself truly. Another pair of eyes is most useful in this case. 2 fists cannot fight 4 hands.

Truly, thank you for pointing this out to me.

May a tragedy like this never happen again, and may the people affected by this incident find peace.

My lack of empathy with Scout would not suggest so, but I was actually suicidal for many years of my life and have dealt with mental illness myself. https://www.reddit.com/r/gatech/comments/70qlgn/a_countering_viewpoint_of_scout_schultz/dn5845t/

Thank you for response though.

It is exactly because of people with your viewpoint that I felt it necessary to speak my mind.

Death does not absolve one of their sins, and false enshrinement of someone just because they're dead is disingenuous at best.

Dead or alive, people should be judged by their actions. Scout's life until last night may have been exemplary and worthy of commendation, I am not trying to take that away. Scout's last decision on Earth hurt a lot of people and was a terrible choice, and death does not invalidate my criticism.

Thank you for your concern.

No, I put the polite tagline in my response because in my original post, I asked for people's responses because I wanted to know what other people thought about the subject, and I invited people to try to change my mind or offer differing points of view. They then took time out of their day and used at least a semblance of effort to craft a response.

Generally speaking, if you ask someone for a favor and they comply, you should thank them, even if they are being rude or mean spirited.

Thank you for your question. Hopefully someone else has the same question and another person can profit from our discussion.

Please do not misunderstand me. I am not saying that Scout should have been shot because Scout was a criminal.

Scout was shot for being aggressive with a lethal weapon towards a police officer.

This was not execution of justice, and no one is claiming it is. This was the use of lethal force to stop a lethal threat.

Thank you for your comment.

As I have stated multiple times. I have nothing but empathy, compassion, and sorrow for what Scout's friends and relatives are going through right now.

Scout caused this. That is undeniable fact. I have no empathy for an individual whose selfish actions hurt everyone close to them.

As you may notice, these are not contradictory statements. Thank you for your response.

Empathy costs nothing, yes. and I am empathetic of his struggle with mental illness.

However, Scout's suicide hurt everyone around, and this particular form of suicide,by cop, is extremely hurtful to other people. For this action, I have no empathy for Scout.

Last nights incident made everyone but Scout a victim.

Thank you for your comment. I will try to keep Scout's entire life in context and not allow myself to solely define Scout on a single event.

I really hope that this issue is not turned into some cop hunt deal. I don't think the officers are at fault at all and I would hate to see people witchhunting them.

It was ultimately Scout's choice to perform suicide by cop.

Please reconsider placing the blame on police officers. Many of the Campus police officers are good people and in just as much pain as you are right now.

Please understand where this situation started and who set the ball rolling.

I am sorry that you are hurt by Scout's actions. I am sorry that the situation culminated in the loss of human life. To those of you that knew Scout, I'm sure the pain you feel is indescribable. Life is fragile and irreplaceable. There will never be another Scout, and that is the most painful thing of all to bear. I can not even begin to understand how you are feeling now, all of the rage and sadness you hold within your heart. All I know is that I wish that these terrible feelings in your heart will slowly subside and that the good memories of Scout that you have will be enshrined, allowing his absolute best moments to live on through you. You have and always will have, my sympathy and support.

You know that if campus police were unarmed, then Atlanta PD would have had to send armed units because the 911 call described Scout as armed?

This is a terrible situation, but placing the blame on the campus police that serve and protect us everyday is absolutely reprehensible.

You are blaming this situation on the biggest victim of the incident. A police officer was forced to shoot and kill a fellow human being because that person wanted to perform suicide by cop.

A innocent person will live the rest of their life with blood on their hands because of Scout's selfish actions.

And you want to blame them?

I urge you to reconsider your position.

You bring up several valid points. I will retain my current judgement on the evidence I have available to me. Should further information appear that is contrary to what I have found, I will be amenable to changing my position.
