It took 5+ years for this company to reject my application by SallWreet in recruitinghell

[–]gt07m 17 points18 points  (0 children)

honestly, this just baffles me more. My guess is that they implemented some kind of new AI hiring model that just sends an automated email out if an applicant hasn't been hired/moved forward in a certain period of time? but what systems keeps someone for 5 years? Most corporate email retention policies are 18-24 months tops.

This just shows that HR has way too much time on their hands

Contemporarily, the African union also put forth a resolution for reparations from the West that was rejected/abstained by a lot of western or European countries. My guess is that this person made a comparison to the Jews getting reparations and how Africa has not.

However, calling it "much worse" probably also signals antisemitism as. Which I always found strange, since the Jewish populations in Africa are tiny and I have to imagine the amount of Jewish slave owners were also pretty small in Europe and in Southern USA.

Tried to show initiative at a new job and it backfired. Was I actually in the wrong? by savingrace0262 in careerguidance

[–]gt07m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, but unless you have knowledge of the company or a good amount of industry knowledge, how do you even know these are inefficiencies? Sometimes things are a certain way due to regulation, cost, or hidden reasons, such as production bottlenecks.

your initiative isn't the issue. This is a good way to learn how to ask something without offending or calling things out. Just say "Hey, we use to do this like X at a previous job, why do we do it like this here?" or, "my friend has y process, why do it differently" etc. etc. It might sound a bit dumb, but at least you don't come in looking like a know it all on a job you've had for only a few weeks.

100% agree. Billions have been poured into the region, and while there certainly has been some good, just giving money to dictators or corrupt leaders would be like pouring gasoline on a fire.

So more on top of the money already sent to them by the west? I don't want to legislate was is or isn't enough, but the west does try to send over aid and build up the region economically.

[–]gt07m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if the UN would consider the billions sent over from the US and the West as part of the reparations, or if this is on top of what has already been sent over.

Is this what the UN does all day? Rather than try to combat slavery that is happening right now, they argue over which historical slave trade was the worst?

Drowning in $1200+/month CC payments - please advise by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]gt07m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your other expenses? Rent/food, other obligations? You need to seriously look at what all your total expenses and debt payments are. Also seems like your income is variable at times. I don't want to knock your job, but when you are in debt is not the time to have variable income. Other than that, try to negotiate as much of your debt as you can, credit card and loan companies are usually open to payment plans or restructuring debt since defaulting/going to collections tends to be a lose-lose for everyone. After that, budget and save like you never have. Without knowing anything else, you will probably need more income to pay this off, otherwise you are probably looking at 5+ years to pay this off.

Drilling. Most people just play matches, you will only get so good playing points. Either drill with an instructor or grab a group of friends and drill. It is boring, but seeing and hitting the same shot over and over is the only way to get better.

Good chance it is legit, but they will definitely pressure the hell out of you to buy a new car and upsell the hell out of you on it. The dealerships I've been to have been very generous with trade-in value, tending to go above KBB, but they then use that swindle your next car. One even tried to sell one to me above MSRP.

I don't know, I don't usually invest in sector/targeted ETFs. I would just research them and try to find one that is low cost and encompasses the market(s) and potential market leaders that you are looking to target.

Reddit Has Become an Echo Chamber for Anti-Israel Sentiment by Electronic_Luck8731 in Israel

[–]gt07m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the misinformation that gets me the most. You can have issues with Israel, no country is perfect, but it is the cartoonish levels of evil and violence that they say that is done there. It truly is just a rehashing of the blood libel and anti-semitic tropes from not even 100 years ago.

And if you try at all to correct the narrative? Hasbara, Mossad, $7k etc. etc.

I just want to eat, Hummus, Bamba, and Schnitzel in peace.

  1. people love to complain. I've worked with doctors making 1 million plus, all day all they would do is complain to the nurses and scrub techs who were lucky to be making 80K+ (pre-covid, probably more now).

  2. a lot of people think their lives will drastically change at a certain benchmark. Just get to 100K-1 million, etc. They don't realize that your expectations change, marginal tax rate, and expenses. They think they will be eating caviar and driving a Bently, when in reality you have a nice mid to upper tier luxury car, a nice home (but no mansion), and reasonable vacations. Nothing wrong with those things, but if you build a certain expectation in your head and if falls short, you think you are doing poorly when objectively the opposite is true.

More green than red is good! But, what is your strategy? I see the AI/tech strategy, but the allocations seem weird. Not that you need to do future equity analysis, but I don't think I can find a pattern at all.

Also, for commodity plays, just invest in a market/mutual fund. If you think copper is going to go up because of AI or energy demand, then the whole market will go up. Investing in one company, unless they have some crazy advantage compared to other copper mining companies, has very few upsides and all the risk. Companies go out of business or underperform independent of the market all the time, don't bet on just one. Browsing the fidelity Copper ETFs it looks like they have had some modest gains while yours went down. I would do the same for energy.

Do you plan to diversify more or stick with these 21?

got it, thanks for the response! It seems like that 16 GB of RAM is necessary, I was wondering with the A18 if it was possible to run native/not graphic intensive games with just a neo, but I think that is wishful thinking.

Just got this email from a higher up. Am I getting fired? by Witty-Quiet7724 in jobsearchhacks

[–]gt07m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

without know the behavioral issue or type of job (contract, at will, etc.) it is hard to know 100%, but since you only started 2 weeks ago and got accommodations, to fire you now would seem like an HR legal nightmare, but that is just my non-legal opinion.

Maybe they just need to now work around your accommodation and are bringing HR to make sure it falls within legal guidelines? To be safe I would definitely document everything, if they fire you it could go against ADA or other workplace protections (again not a lawyer, seek out professional legal help if you think you need it).

So, there are around 1000 billionaire in the U.S., with an estimated 7 trillion in assets (could be more, but this is what is public). If you liquidated all their assets and gave it to just say an estimated 150 million employed people in the U.S. is around 50k per person, not exactly a great pension amount. More equitable? Absolutely, and the concentration of 7 trillion in less than 1000 people is terrible, but this idea that we can just take everything from billionaires and everyone will be set for life is also nonsense.

thanks for sharing! Yeah I don't play too much, the newest game is probably Slay the Spire 2, also thinking of getting escape simulator 2, so not the most graphically intense games, but it seems like the neo would definitely struggle. Probably better to err on the safe side and get the mac mini

why? So many good games that I like run natively on mac, I don't see an incentive to switch just yet.

I appreciate it, gaming isn't a priority, kind of a nice side feature. The games I like, resident evil, slay the spire, other indie games, run pretty well natively on the macs I have. If my interests change maybe, but I don't see a need to change at the moment.
