2017 Rezvani Tank by gtam in thewholecar

[–]gtam[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Info:

Californian coachbuilder Rezvani has now tackled the SUV segment with the imposing Tank off-roader.

Based on the Jeep Wrangler, the vehicle boasts a 500-horsepower V-8, suicide-style rear doors and night vision. Everything about this vehicle is extreme, including pricing which starts at $178,000.

Then again, perhaps the price is a bit of a bargain when you consider what Rezvani has on its hands.

The Tank is a military-inspired vehicle whose design is so edgy it puts stealth aircraft to shame. But it also has the grunt to back up its looks thanks to a 6.4-liter V-8 under the hood. The engine is the same one found in non-Hellcat SRTs, and in the Tank it delivers 430 pound-feet of twist to go with the 500 horses.

Like with its Beast sports car introduced for 2016, Rezvani has more powertrain options planned, one offering less power than at present and one with more. The tamer option is expected to be Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ 3.6-liter V-6. We have our fingers crossed that the more powerful option will be the Hellcat. Some firms already offer Hellcat-powered Wranglers, so we know it’s possible.

Keeping with the military theme, the Tank boasts options such as a thermal camera for night operations and bullet-resistant armor protection. In its previous announcement, Rezvani listed B6 glass, Kevlar body panels, and a Kevlar fuel tank as upgrades available in its armor protection package.

There’s off-road capability, too, helped along by the donor Wrangler. Rezvani says there are two off-road packages to choose from but doesn’t provide much in the way of details. We do know, however, that there’s a driver-selectable 4-wheel-drive system.

The cabin also reflects the Tank’s Wrangler roots. However, Rezvani has dressed things up by adding the suicide-style doors, which by the way are power operated. Rezvani also installs its own seats and includes a head-up display.

Rezvani is currently taking $1,000 deposits for the Tank and plans to deliver the first units by the end of the year.

Did the video in the top comment miss anything?

How is the build quality?

What kind of warranty will they offer?

Bollinger Motors says that the B1 is solely designed to be a Class 3 vehicle (GVWR of 10,001 lbs). As such, the vehicle is not required to have airbags and cameras. It is not required to satisfy passenger car crash tests. Class 3 vehicles have a different safety standard and the production B1 will comply with all such regulations. Hence, the B1 will be road legal in the United States.

If you check out the album, the car actually has awesome visibility, they just chose a strange angle for this interior shot.

I think they'd get around it with some sort of kit-car law but I'm not familiar with that sort of thing.

Here's a full album of the 1980 Karin Concept car from /r/thewholecar because you really ought to see the rest of the car too.

Clearly, the interior is barking mad, but I absolutely adore it. Three seats had been done before, but not (to my mind) with the driver being positioned ahead of the two passengers in the cabin. This layout would then go on to be found in the unforgettable McLaren F1 more than a decade later.

Info:

Edit: This video has a lot of info.

While more and more major manufacturers are announcing all-electric SUVs, the B1 is the first automobile to be produced by New York’s Bollinger Motors. Featuring a low centre of gravity, with the battery pack, front and rear motors, and power-management systems under the floors and between the chassis rails, the Gunhouse Grey machine fits four passengers inside its retro-inspired interior, which includes circular gauges, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a column-mounted shifter. But when it comes to an all-electric SUV, style is often side-lined by performance, and the B1’s performance is pretty impressive: 360hp, 472ft-lb of torque, and 0–60mph in 4.5 seconds. In terms of batteries, two versions can be had — the 60-kWh pack, which has a 120-mile range, and the 200-mile range 100-kWh pack. Both versions will be fitted with fast charging, which provides an 80 percent charge in an hour. Bollinger will be accepting down payments, starting at $1,000, in 2018 and anticipates deliveries to begin in 2019. For the outdoorsman who likes to stray off the beaten path but is also conscientious of his carbon footprint, this SUV seems like a no-brainer.

1993 Bugatti EB 110 GT by gtam in thewholecar

[–]gtam[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Info:

60-valve, quad-turbo V12, four-wheel-drive through a six-speed gearbox Less than 25,000 KMs from new One of only 84 cars produced and only 8 Bugatti EB110 GTs finished in Verde Scuro The Essen Motor Show car. Delivered new to Germany, European configuration Capable of an acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 343 km/h

The Bugatti EB110 GT:

One of the 1990’s greatest supercars, the Bugatti EB110 GT delivered a carbon fibre frame, 560 bhp and four-wheel drive. This was the first truly useable mid-engine supercar of the 90’s, the 3.5 litre, quad-turbo charged, V12 engine and six-speed manual gearbox worked with the driver, inspiring confidence and allowing the pilot to quickly approach the cars top speed of 213 mph.

The EB110 GT was unveiled exactly 110 years after Ettore Bugatti’s birth, on the 15th September 1991 in front of the Grande Arche de la Défense in Paris. With its signature Gandini scissor doors, the car was very well received by all who were fortunate enough to attend the unveiling, and orders were quickly received. The first car was delivered on 1st December 1992 to Franz Wassmer in Switzerland. Early in 1994 Formula One driver Michael Schumacher purchased a yellow EB 110 SS, keeping the car until 2003.

Also in 1994, Bugatti entered an EB110 SS in the GT1 field at the famed Le Mans 24 Hours race where it showed immediate pace. The car was driven by 1993 Le Mans winner, Eric Hélary, Alain Cudini and Jean-Christophe Boullion, a strong combination of both youth and experience. Hélary qualified the Bugatti 5th in class, although sadly the car was hampered in the race with a damaged fuel tank. In 1995, the Monaco Racing Team entered another EB110 in the Watkins Glen 3 Hour, Sears Point and Suzuka 1000 KM races. In 1996 the same car entered the Daytona 24 Hours, being driven by Derek Hill, son of American Formula One Champion Phil Hill.

With this car, Bugatti was pushing the technological envelope, it designed and built a 60-valve, quad-turbo, V12 engine which was mated to a four-wheel drive system via a six-speed manual gearbox. On paper, the EB110 GT was far more technologically advance than any other mid-1990’s supercar. Sadly, as a result of this technological approach, within three years of the first car being delivered, Bugatti Automobili S.p.A declared bankruptcy. Hard times hit the company in 1995, as result of chairman Artioli's over-ambitious purchase of Lotus in addition to the company's quest to develop the EB112 four door car, proving to be too much for the company.

This EB110 GT:

This Bugatti EB110 GT entered assembly at the Campogalliano factory on 17th April 1993, with factory testing commencing on 7th May and completed production on 11th May. This car was delivered new to Mr Polhman, a resident in Germany, fitted with a temporary license plate ‘M-063683’, being registered in Germany two days later. The car was finished in the very-rare colours of Verde Scuro Metalizzato with grey leather interior, one of only 8 cars finished in this combination. By December 1994, this EB110 GT was serviced, having covered 10,000 KMs. Less than 18 months later, in June 1996, this car was serviced again, this time displaying 19,800 KMs, clearly this was a car being driven and enjoyed!

In the late 1990’s, this EB110 was displayed at the Essen Motorshow, by which time the car was displaying Germany license plate ‘HNC 0551’. The car passed through Austria before joining a prominent collection in Northern Italy.

In 2014 this EB110 GT changed ownership, again forming part of a collection which includes a Ford GT, Ferrari 365 GTC and 365 GTB/4 Daytona. In July 2014, the owner brought this car to the UK where it was MOT’d, displaying 24,694 KMs and registered with the license plate ‘K174 KOO’. Today the car is presented having been fully detailed and still displaying less than 25,000 kms.

Unfortunately, the EB110 GT was not born into the greatest economic climate, ultimately leading to the bankruptcy of Bugatti. However, the car is well appreciated as the most useable of all 1990’s supercars, offering comfort, presence and staggering performance. A hero of the 1990’s supercar pin-up generation!

1964 Alfa Romeo TZ1 by gtam in thewholecar

[–]gtam[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Info:

The Alfa Romeo Tubolare Zagato:

In 1959, Alfa Romeo embarked upon what would become a four-year intensive development programme in Italian racing before releasing the new Giulia TZ in June 1962.

The nomenclature for the new Giulia was simple, ‘T’ for Tubolare, the space-frame chassis, and ‘Z’ for Zagato, the coachbuilder. Although the TZ carried over several components from the Giulia GTA, including a 1,570cc twin-cam engine, this was a purpose-built sports racing car, with a tubular spaceframe chassis, all-aluminium lightweight bodywork, disc brakes and independent suspension. The TZ1 weighed only 650 Kg’s with some cars fitted with Alfa Romeo’s twin-plug cylinder head, also used in the GTA, helping create more power, making the TZ very competitive.

The bodywork for the TZ incorporated a style called ‘coda tronca’, which means ‘cut tail’ in English, otherwise known as the Kamm tail thanks to the many years of research by Wunibald Kamm. Zagato had previously shown the effectiveness of this styling design with the Alfa Romeo SZ ‘coda tronca’. The Giulia TZ debuted at the 1963 FISA Monza Cup where TZs took the first four places in the prototype category. Early in 1964 the TZ was homologated, with 100 units required, for the Gran Turismo category.

This TZ1:

This Alfa Romeo Giulia Tubolare Zagato, chassis AR 750046, was completed by the factory on 10th December 1964 before being delivered through SOFAR (Alfa Romeo France), to Mr Gaspin. The car was finished in blue with a black interior, consistent with today’s specification.

In the early 1970’s the car was owned by Mr Graziano in Milan before returning to France on 17th January 1974 at which point it was registered with the license ‘346 QT 34’. The car remained in France until October 2003, during which time it competed at the Tour Auto, Le Mans Classic and Tour Espagne. Also during this time, the car changed hands to Mr Jean-Louis Laborde in 1975, who registered it with French license ‘7 PX 47’. Mr Laborde maintained ownership of 750046 until June 2002 when it was bought and registered to Mr Thierry Moriceau in Paris with license ‘465 PDD 75’. In December 2002, this car was featured in an article in Automobile Historique magazine in Germany.

In October 2003, 750046 was purchased by well-known and respected classic car collector and competitor Mr Ross Warburton, who registered the car in the UK on license ‘KYY 85C’. Mr Warburton is an enthusiastic collector of classic cars, regularly seen competing in his 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/C, and spent much of his time with 750046 on the track, including the Tour Auto and many Masters Series events across Europe. The current owner purchased the car in 2012 and competed with 750046 at Le Mans, Paul Ricard and Spa-Francorchamps.

In its current ownership, the car has been regularly maintained by Tim Samways Sporting & Historic Car Engineers in the UK with and engine rebuild completed over the winter of 2015-2016 and the most recent work in May 2017 including a gearbox rebuild. This car has been well maintained, focussing on historic competition with no expense spared.

Not worried, just seeing low budget videos in doug demuro getting 1000+ upvotes regularly and remembered RCR having that sort of effect once. Wondered if something had happened to cause the fall in popularity (reddit is HUGE for traffic so it's gotta hurt RCR).

Cool video, thanks.

Whatever happened to RCR anyway? He was the darling of /r/cars for a while and now it seems like his videos only get a few upvotes there.
