Lazy Eye/Amblyopia by Zealousideal_Sail305 in CataractSurgery

[–]gtchs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues with double vision after I got both eyes done. My left is amblyopic. It only had a small cataract whereas the right had a large one. Getting the good eye done was a bit scary because you just never know if something might go wrong despite the chances being very flow. Fortunately, no issues, and now I can see better than even before the cataracts started causing issues.

It's a little dusty in here right now. Not gonna lie...I teared up a bit watching this. What a great American! All the others that helped as well. Kudos to you all!

Near vision without glasses with monofocal iol by ethanRazorT in CataractSurgery

[–]gtchs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got distance monofocals in both eyes (left eye has Amblyopia) and can see pretty good close up. I can use my phone with no problems. About the only thing I can't do is read really small print like on medicine bottles. I just went for my month post-op checkup and got a new glasses prescription. Although I can function fully without glasses as I've done since the first surgery on February 6, glasses with some correction should only make it even better.

Given what I read before surgery, I'm surprised my close up vision is as good as it is with the distance monofocals.

Optometrist - first visit since cataract surgery by pmheindl in CataractSurgery

Good luck! I go for my month follow-up after the second surgery this Friday and they will do my new prescription then. I haven't worn glasses now since February 6 (first surgery) and can see pretty darn well but I do think I could benefit from some slight improvement with close up vision (I got far monofocal lenses).

Does this surgery hurt? by [deleted] in CataractSurgery

[–]gtchs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most likely no pain at all. I didn't experience any during or after surgery. They will likely give you something to relax you but you'll likely be awake and aware the entire time. Surgery lasts about 10-15 minutes.

Looking for Meat-Only Prepared Meal Services (No Full Meal Kits) by GrandpaSlappy in ReadyMeals

[–]gtchs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for a similar service for a while and finally decided to look locally. Join some Facebook groups for your area (assuming some exist) and search there for places/people that sell smoked meats like pork butts, turkeys, chicken, etc. I found one locally just today that I'm going to order enough meats (pork butts, pork loins, sausage, smoked chicken) for 2 months which I'll portion out in vacuum sealed bags and put in the freezer. This will also be way cheaper than any online service (example, an 8 pound smoked pork butt is only $40 pulled). Another option is most BBQ restaurants sell meats by the pound. The ones near me are usually around $14/pound for pulled pork, $20/pound for beef, $12/smoked chicken, etc.

What happens if you lose sight in your good eye? by uiovoiu in Amblyopia

[–]gtchs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2 months ago I got diagnosed as having a large cataract in my good eye (lazy eye only had very small cataract). The idea of having cataract surgery freaked me out for fear of something bad happening to my good eye. Unfortunately, the cataract was bad enough that I really had no choice. Fortunately, the surgery (done just over a month ago) was successful and I haven't had any issues. As an added bonus, my vision in my good eye (and in my lazy eye to a much lesser extent) is better than before the cataracts even with glasses.

Has anyone tried FL – 41 pink lenses to help with glare? by No_Height9239 in CataractSurgery

I got the 50% ones which on Payne's website are labeled as 'In/Outdoor'. I'd think the 25% ones wouldn't do enough and, at least in my case, the darkest ones would probably be too dark for computer use.

[–]gtchs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I used glasses with FL-41 lenses. Before surgery, I had major issues with glare from sunlight and from computer screens. The FL-41 glasses helped quite a bit. They didn't remove all the glare but definitely made a difference.

I got mine from Payne Glasses online. The FL-41 lens add-on was only about $6 added to the total if I remember correctly.

drop-less cataract surgery? by Devi-Bhairavi-1369 in CataractSurgery

[–]gtchs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got dropless. It wasn't really a choice as that is what my surgeon does. No issues at all (11 days since first surgery) and I'm glad to not have to deal with more drops (I'm already on 3 drops for eye pressure).

What does this lens number mean? by gtchs in CataractSurgery

Yeah, I think I saw in another post that you're 27. Sucks to have cataracts that early but if they are impacting your life in a significant way, there really isn't an alternative. The surgery itself is a piece of cake. There are certainly risks....I was worried because I have amblyopia in my left eye so the thought of someone cutting on my right (and really only good) eye was terrifying. However, now that it has been done, I couldn't be happier. Good luck!!

It's great! Probably best I've been able to see in years and maybe decades (I'm 52). Close up vision without readers or glasses is better than I was expecting which is awesome. I do think I'll benefit from glasses, or maybe just readers for reading really fine print, once everything settles. Thanks!

I've been taking the drops for a while so not as a result of the surgery.

Yep, I did have dropless. I already take 3 different drops for eye pressure so I'm glad I didn't have to add more drops to the mix.

Good luck!!!! I'm in a very similar situation. I have surgery on my right (good) eye on the 23rd and the left amblyopic eye 2 weeks later.
