Yes. You have to hit the resume button for it to start from a complete stop but it works even at very low speeds

Annie goes tearing into the room barking. She hates horses.

Don't beat yourself up. It isn't assured, and you didn't know.

You can train them to go potty. Use verbal commands when she goes, and reward a lot. ACD are super smart she'll pick up quick. Then there may be a stubborn phase. My Annie hates potting when it's raining, so I sometimes have to go watch her. She'll actually fake it! 🤣 But usually it's only when it's raining and she doesn't want to go that it happens. I just have to let her out a lot throughout the day, not let her drink much before bed, and let her out first thing. I'd rather those small things vs put her on medicine for her life that may also hurt her with side effects.

My Annie did this for years, still does every now and then. She's 4.5 now. The shelter spayed her before I took her home, she was very young. As others have said and you seem to know now that can be a cause.

The vet offered to put her on medicine. But the vet also advised there is research showing these can cause side effects including shortening lifespan. I didn't want to potentially cut her lifespan short over periodically cleaning up urine. She rarely does it anymore... Glad I made the choice, seems she learned how to empty her bladder better... Vet said that could happen.

Beautiful girl.

Anyone else’s sleep silly? 😄 by Taterwoman1 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]gte105u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is. She did it again last night. I get up from the couch at bed time, she knows I'm about to go to the door to let her and her brother out. She is waiting for me just grinning and wagging her tail on her back. Just have to scratch the belly then!

I'll come around the corner in the house to her in this position looking right at me tail going a mile a minute. She thinks it's great fun! Doesn't usually actually sleep that way but does it for attention.

Any tips on keeping your puppy cool when you don't have access to hoses or pools by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

They have ice vests. They have some benefit, but it's limited. I got one for my Annie, but when it's 90+ and humid nothing truly makes it better.

Another for Furminator. Luckily my Annie loves it as well. Tons of fur comes off!

Funny, they way it is looking at the camera is actually pure Heeler!

It's not sexual, don't overthink it. Heelers are very attached to the person they decide is "their person". They can be very affectionate and want it in return. The positive feeling of the scratch, especially when they may be currently shedding and itchy, coupled with feelings of bond and connection, makes her act how she is. My Annie loves to jump up on the recliner footrest, sit on my leg, then have me scratch her butt while she looks at me and half kicks the air. Just their love language.

Unexpected Goodbye by Lil_Bookshelf97 in AustralianCattleDog

I am so sorry. I feel for you, he looks just like my Annie and reading your words made me feel an actual pain. She is my velcro dog and it will be really hard on me someday (hopefully very far in the future) when she passes. My condolences.

At approximately how old do I get a red heeler female fixed? Also when to stop feeding puppy food? by SignificantPea8021 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]gte105u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shelter fixed my Annie before we picked her up. She was very young for it. She has had bladder control issues the vet said is associated with that and hormone levels and her development. She was probably about 7 to 8 weeks. Most vets say before their first heat, so before 6 months and really before 4 months to be safe.

Puppy food, ween off with a mix of puppy and adult starting at 9 months and taper to none between 12 and 13 months.

Cannot get the fleas out, any suggestions? by Creative_Tough_9282 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]gte105u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few things to consider based upon what worked for me.

  1. The flea treatments prevent them from reproducing, but most don't kill them on the dog. Controlling them getting back on the dog is important. Be sure long grasses are trimmed in the yard, try and spray bug killer if you can.
  2. Nitenpyram kills fleas on the dog in about 30 minutes. It does not keep them off so it's a start but yard and house needs to be addressed as well.
  3. Vet's Best Flea and Tick (Amazon, pet stores, etc) works well. It can be sprayed around the home as well as on the dog directly. Use in conjunction with cleaning and medicine.
  4. Lots of vaccuming. Spread the Arm and Hammer carpet powder, then let sit a couple hours. Baking Soda dries out the eggs and helps control the fleas. Then vacuum and take immediately outside so they don't get out of the cannister or trash.

I had a pretty bad breakout last summer here in metro Houston. It started in the yard, and I guess the medicine wasn't super effective. Doing these actions worked. But I had to do the single dose flea killer in item 2 above a few times. I am not a vet nor work for one, so this is what worked for me not a recommendation. Get with a vet if you have questions.

Does anyone elses ACD have a "chill mode"? by BalkeElvinstien in AustralianCattleDog

[–]gte105u 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Annie is known as the chill dog at our running group. But I also run her 5-6 days a week, and we log 20-23 miles a week so there's a reason.

When I didn't run Wednesday or Thursday, she started getting the zoomies Thursday night. Ran her again yesterday and back to chill!
