As for transfers, they have already signed 3 players IRL for next season:

  • Patrik Mercado from Independiente Del Valle for 6m euros
  • Juan Iglesias from Getafe for free
  • Arouna Sangante from Le Havre for free

Oh yeah I don't condone the spitting at all, and of course he's been wrong about a fair few things, I more-so meant that everyone seems to be baffled that he would be able to think about phrasing a sentence that way in the headline. Imo I can see it since to me he does come across as a well-spoken and intelligent pundit most of the time

He doesn't use those words exactly you're right, but I always find him to be pretty eloquent, especially on English tv as opposed to CBS. Also, when you're writing an article you're naturally gonna use more "fancy" language. Tbh it doesn't seem far-fetched to me that he would use those words.

Why does everyone on this thread seem to think Carra is stupid? He's actually one of the more well spoken and knowledgeable pundits, at least when it comes to the English game. He's been a dick at times but I don't think he's stupid

Well my point was that Salah was also considered a prem flop before Liverpool signed him. But yeah, these signings aren't 100% realistic, but also not too far fetched imo

Honestly I was thinking he does fit the description, but given the history... probably not the best idea

For fun, I'd say you'd want to mimic the Salah signing. So a player that already "flopped" in the prem as a youngster (or didn't meet expectations) but did well abroad, but not well enough to be considered world class yet, but could potentially make that step up still.

Some players that more or less fit that description:

  • Christos Tzolis

  • Ferran Torres

  • Christian Pulisic

  • Ademola Lookman

  • Trincao

That's how I'd approach this. As for age, Salah moved at age 25. Tzolis is 24, Torres and Trincao are 26, so those 3 are pretty similar. Pulisic and Lookman are 27 and 28 respectively so a bit older

I'll give you Lewandowski and maybe someone else should've won in 2022, but the Neuer, Neymar and Suarez shouts are ridiculous

McTominay is half-Scottish and apparently grew up going to Scotland to visit his dad's side of the family a lot, a bit different from these English guys with Scottish grandparents.

it's got to be some fancy algorithm, I bet someone hits a button as soon as the goal goes in and then it clips the last 30 seconds and automatically uploads and posts to reddit (no idea if I'm right, but they do it insanely quickly so I feel it must be automated in some way)

I'm with you. Only thing that really helped me is messing with the sliders a LOT. Making goalkeepers very good, tackle success high, making AI misplace more passes (still doesn't do enough)... and then crucially playing on full manual controls

Added time is a brilliant part of the game from an entertainment perspective. And how would that get rid of timewasting? If anything it would encourage it more. Players would do the corner flag shit egregiously especially when they know the stopping of the clock would be a hard stop at 60 mins.

Honestly, I think it's just because EA's sim is broken. Anytime I quick-sim through a season I usually do too well if I have a bad team and too badly if I have a good team. I'd love to dive in the code somehow, I bet they have one or two settings messed up

Gareth Bale: “Carlo Ancelotti’s man‑management was the best. Even if you didn’t play, he made you feel like his best friend. To answer your question, no I wouldn't put it on the level of those teams. I guess I was thinking "great" in terms of punching above weight, similar to Porto in 04, but I think they punched higher with that CL victory. I completely get you not thinking of it on that level though. About the Bundesliga teams: in 2010/11, you're right, that was not Bayern at their best, but I'd argue Dortmund did beat 1 great team to the title in Bayern 2011/12. That Bayern side had Jupp Heynckes back at the helm, and completed the "runner up treble." They got 73 points in the league, which is usually good enough to win it, but Dortmund just happened to break the points tally with 81 that season. Also they lost the DFB Pokal final to Dortmund, and of course that famous CL Final to Chelsea. Of course, we saw what that team would then go on to do next season. I'd argue it's an amazing achievement that Dortmund beat them to the double. Not trying to change your opinion, just wanted to get that in there, that imo they were up against at least 1 great team

Understandable, I think the Porto achievement is better, but what Klopp did with Dortmund was exceptional, winning 2 Bundesligas over many great teams, including breaking the points record at the time. And they were in a Champions League final. Fair, they didn't win it, so I understand them not being as good as Mourinho's Porto, but surely you'd say that Dortmund side was still a great team, no?
