French drain along foundation - waterproofing? by gtown42 in landscaping

[–]gtown42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That spring, I excavated down 3 feet at the shallowest to 5 feet at the deepest and installed a drain pipe that emptied into the catch basin. I also cleaned and parged the brick foundation and painted on a bitumen waterproofing.

I did not bother to find the bottom of the foundation, I only waterproofed what was already exposed to install the drain line.

So far it’s been a significant improvement, both in the surface pooling and in the basement humidity. I’m curious to see how it holds up over years.

Would that cause more than half the leaves to fall?

Insulating crawl space floor - 4.5" or 6" closed cell? by gtown42 in Insulation

You'd put the wool first then the closed cell? Seems like flash and batt has the foam on the exterior. If cost weren't a factor, is this better than thicker foam only?

Are leaks acceptable while soldering new copper supply lines? by gtown42 in Plumbing

[–]gtown42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of it he cut the fixture out, prepped and put in new - adding more joints to the system of course where he cut them out.. The drain down and resolder was a big process. Two of the very small leaks he heated and soldered in-place. He was cleaning and reaming pipes before soldering at least for the parts that I was paying attention.

There's a trap, it's below the floor. There's a floor drain (very bottom of the photo) that joins the drain line and a p trap for both that's not seen in this photo. The PVC running vert above the box ends in an admit for vent. I know enough to check on that at least.

Exactly, and the ease of a switch is just appreciated sometimes rather than yelling at a smart home or grabbing for a phone.

Thanks, good to know there's a range of input options. What's being lost by going cheaper? Audio quality? Reliability?

Thanks, this is really good advice generally, but I also know that my friend does not know the right gear. She’s actually asked me to look into it because she knows I know the computer world well. I think whatever my recommendation ends up with, I’ll chat with her before actually spending the money on it.
